VDA 6, Part 2 VDA Quality Management in automotive industry QM System Audit, Volume 6, Part 2 “Services” / 2nd edition 2004 Motivation and benefits As early as 1997, a workgroup of the VDA Technical Group “Quality Control in Automotive Industry” elaborated this specific standard for services around automotive industry, which is unique world-wide, based on ISO 9001/9002, 9004-1/2 with the co-operation of OQS and newly de- fined it as part of the new German quality standards in automotive industry / Series of Documents 6. 10 years after the introduction of the standard, it may be stated that the endeavours of the German automotive in- dustry have thus led to the introduction of a standard that is unique world-wide. This also helped to close the gap between the automobile manufacturer and the end custo- mer. Furthermore, VDA 6.2 makes it possible to demons- trate compliance with automotive requirements in areas in which no certification acc. to ISO/TS 16949 is possible at the moment. Organizations directly concerned by this include business firms, forwarding companies, consulting companies and maintenance companies. The document VDA 6.2 basically is a German automotive standard for which there is no alternative world-wide. For example, many German automobile manufacturers review the quality capability of their direct contracting parties and business firms on this basis. Certification acc. to VDA 6.2 always is a supplement based on certification acc. to ISO 9001:2008. Among other things, the new assessment method considers pos- sible residual risks. Therefore, VDA 6.2 helps to make ex- pressive statements about the quality of the management system (method based on measurement). Motivation and benefits

As early as 1997, a workgroup of the VDA Technical Group

“Quality Control in Automotive Industry” elaborated this

specific standard for services around automotive industry,

which is unique world-wide, based on ISO 9001/9002,

9004-1/2 with the co-operation of OQS and newly de-

fined it as part of the new German quality standards in

automotive industry / Series of Documents 6.

10 years after the introduction of the standard, it may be

stated that the endeavours of the German automotive in-

dustry have thus led to the introduction of a standard that

is unique world-wide. This also helped to close the gap

between the automobile manufacturer and the end custo-

mer. Furthermore, VDA 6.2 makes it possible to demons-

trate compliance with automotive requirements in areas

in which no certification acc. to ISO/TS 16949 is possible

at the moment. Organizations directly concerned by this

include business firms, forwarding companies, consulting

companies and maintenance companies.

The document VDA 6.2 basically is a German automotive

standard for which there is no alternative world-wide. For

example, many German automobile manufacturers review

the quality capability of their direct contracting parties and

business firms on this basis.

Certification acc. to VDA 6.2 always is a supplement

based on certification acc. to ISO 9001:2008. Among

other things, the new assessment method considers pos-

sible residual risks. Therefore, VDA 6.2 helps to make ex-

pressive statements about the quality of the management

system (method based on measurement).

Criteria

Guidelines of VDA 6, Part 2

The document VDA 6.2 is a technical standard. Like all

VDA Standards, it is no standard in the traditional sense

of the term. It was originally developed while considering

the requirements of ISO 9001:1994 and ISO 9004:1994.

In its current version, VDA 6.2 completely follows the

structure of ISO 9001:2008, just like ISO/TS 16949 does.

The contents of the requirements of ISO 9001:2008 have

been fully taken over. The specific additional require-

ments are inserted in separate chapters and supplements

directly after the structure of ISO 9001.

In the audit, the individual processes are measured and

assessed for their efficiency. In this context, this model

speaks about five management processes and eight main

processes. These processes will be assessed according

to a new assessment key, which also considers the risk.

Thus this method based on measurement considerably

differs from ISO/TS 16949. For here the possible oppor-

tunities for improvement are shown objectively.

Important additional requirements of VDA 6.1 as compar-

ed to ISO 9001:2008 include:

n strategic short-term, medium-term and long-term

business planning

n considering possible risks

n higher requirements placed on marketing and sales

n identifying the satisfaction of customers and emplo-

yees (motivation)
