EASTERN OREGON NOTEWORTHY• Eastern Oregon is 10-1 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play for the fi rst time in school history.• Th e Mountaineers have equaled last year’s conference win total already.• Eastern has appeared in four straight NAIA polls, but have yet to crack the receiv-ing votes category.• EOU received 29 votes in last week’s poll.• Th e Mountaineers have won 12 of the last 13 matches aft er losing the fi rst six.• Th e Mountaineers have never lost to Evergreen State under Kaki Morehead. THE MOUNTAINEERS LAST TIME OUTEOU GETS WIN 10 OVER CORBANOct. 8, 2011

LA GRANDE, Ore. — Eastern Oregon won a tough battle over conference foe Corban University in four sets, improving to 10-1 in the Cascade Collegiate Confer-ence.

Eastern Oregon was led in kills by Senior Alisha Crane with 13. Leading the way in assists for the Mountaineers with 30 was Senior Emily Sampson. Junior Kaitlyn Duncan fi nished with a game-high 23 digs.

Th e fi rst set was controlled early by Corban, Eastern Oregon regained the lead halfway through the set and ended up winning 25-17. Eastern Oregon led in kills 17-12.

Th e second set featured seven lead changes with the Mountaineers leading in kills 16-11 but losing the set 25-23 to Corban.

In the third set, Corban led 1-0 until giving up seven straight points to the Mountaineers. Th e set was won by Eastern Oregon 25-13, giving them a 2-1 lead in the match.

Th e fourth and fi nal set was highly con-tested early, until the Mountaineers pulled

away late and won the match 25-18.

Corban University was led in kills by Tiff any Land with 17. Megan Dees had 21 assists to lead the Warriors. Bethany Durre ended the game with 18 digs.

Th e Mountaineers improve to 12-7 overall and 10-1 in conference. Corban is 8-11 overall and 2-9 in conference.

Th e program was reenergized under McLean. In 2007, the Mountain-eers, led by Morehead, fi nished 16-10 overall, and 13-7 in the CCC.

Th e 16 wins was a six game improvement over the 2006 win total, which was her fi rst season as head coach.

Morehead was named First Team All-Conference three times in the Cascade Collegiate Conference and honorable men-tion to the All-NAIA Region I squad during her three years playing at Eastern Oregon.

In that time, Morehead played in 236 games, gathering 812 kills and a .210 hitting percentage. She also had 802 digs, 61 service aces and 79 total blocks.

Morehead was also a member of the 2004-05 Mountaineer wom-

en’s rodeo team that won

the Northwest regional title and competed at the National Colle-giate Rodeo Finals. She fi nished 12th in the nation in barrel rac-ing.

Th e Paulina, Oregon native graduated from Crook County High School in 2001 where she was First Team All-State in vol-leyball as a senior.

Morehead was the EOU vol-leyball assistant coach in 2005, a year aft er she graduated.
