VARUNA JAPA VELVI 25th & 26th February 2014

As requested by the general public of Chatrapatti, Vayalpatti and Veerapandi villages, Varuna Japa Velvi was organized by Sri Swamiji at Sri Swami Chidbhavananda Ashramam, at a short notice. Under the guidance of Sri Swamiji, Sri Varuna Japam and Homam was conducted on 25th and 26th February 2014. The prayer requesting Sri Varuna’s grace and blessings in form of rain was conducted by 21 Vedic Pundits. The participants of the on-going camp and general public attended the Puja and homams.

On 25th Feb morning by 05:00 am, Sri Swamiji led the priests and the local community leaders to the banks of Mullaiyaru or Surabhi Saraswati river, at Veerapandi.

After performing Puja for the sacred river, the Tirthaharanam – collecting water for kumbavahanam was done.

The kumbam was taken to Sri Kanneswaramudaiyar Temple situated at the banks of the river for puja and prayers.

It was then taken to the temple of local presiding deity Sri Gowmariamman for Her blessings to the Varuna Japa Velvi, and then brought to Adiguru Sri Prajna Dakshinamurti Vidyapitham.

After the regular puja and prarthana, Sri Guru Vandanam was performed followed by Varuna Japa Velvi sankalpam. Sri Swamiji then led the devotees to the Yaga Sala, specially erected near Sri Bharati Tirtha Vidyarthi Vilasaha.

After Go Puja, Yaga Sala pravesam and punyahavachanam was performed. Sri Varuna Japam started at 10:00 am.

Sri Varuna Japam, consisting of mantras from Krishna Yajur Veda, and 2000 avarthis of the japa mantram from Rig Veda was done. Twenty-one priests, standing in neck-deep water for over two hours, performed the Japam.

The local community people and devotees were witnessing such a Japa Velvi and efforts of Vaidhikas, for the first time. Local populace turned up in more numbers when the word spread about the way the prarthana was being conducted.

The Vaidhikas were honoured with new vastrams and the Varuna Japam concluded by 02:00 pm with puja and arathi. More than two hundred participated from the start of the Velvi. Annadanam was organized for all.

Vishnu Sahasranama & Veda parayanam was done in the evening, from 06:30 to 07:45 pm. - 5

Special abishekam with Mahanyasa Parayanam was performed for Adiguru Sri Prajna Dakshinamurti and Sri Badari Narayanar on 26th Feb morning, followed by Sri Varuna Japa Homam and Sri Navagraha Homam.

Both the Homams were done simultaneously in two separate homa kundams and the Purnahuthi was performed at 12:45 pm.

After honouring the Vaidhikas, the kumbham was taken to Surabhi Saraswati river. Sri Swamiji performed puja and offered the kumba thirtham to the river. More than two hundred and fifty devotees joined Sri Swamiji in worshiping Sri Varuna for rain.

The sacred water was also sprinkled on the Vata Vriksham (banyan tree). Swamiji distributed thirtha prasadam to all devotees. The local community leaders were honoured. Special lunch, as prasadam, was arranged to all devotees. It was the first time that an event of this kind is organized in the Ashramam. With the grace of Adiguru Sri Prajna Dakshinamurti and guidance of Sri Swamji, the Varuna Japa Velvi was a grand event. The printed copies of Varuna Japa mantram were distributed again to all devotees from 23rd Feb, with a request that they recite the mantras and pray for rain. All devotees profoundly thanked Sri Swamiji for arranging this puja and homam.
