Republic Day is a very significant day and doing this bulletin is really a very noble and innovative

idea. I just hope the relations between the clubs improve. Republic Day is the most widely

celebrated day in the country with parades and various patriotic celebrations and what better way

to celebrate this occasion than a joint bulletin with two great clubs. We at the International service

team from the Rotaract Club of H.R. College are really privileged to do this prestigious bulletin.

The republic day of is the biggest highlight of the start of every year. . It is our duty, on this day, to pay

obeisance to our founding fathers who have made it possible for us to stand together to breathe the fresh

air of freedom and democracy. Today we are enjoying the fruits of their labour. They shed their blood,

sweat and tears so that we could sleep peacefully and awaken to a new tomorrow. It is our responsibility now

respect and honour their sacrifices and take india to greater heights. May our dream of a new tomorrow

come true. Let's salute the spirit of freedom!

Lastly, a very big thank you to the Rotaract Club of Symphony Coimbatore and also the International

Service Team for making this bulletin a success and also for their active co-operation. Jai Hind!

The Governments at the national and state level have focussed upon developmental activities to ameliorate the living and working conditions of the people. Social and economic reforms, which were started a few years ago, have been given a major thrust so that India can be counted among the leading countries of the world. They came to India because of the potential that they could tap. They also came because of the rapid strides that we have made in information technology.

Coming to general or basic education, the Education Department should be appreciated for introducing the 'Dattu Scheme' wherein corporate houses and public and voluntary organisations have adopted government schools. This is a fine instance of private and public enterprise joining hands together for the betterment of the State. I am happy that medical education and biotechnology have also received due attention.

Although India obtained its independence on August 15, 1947, the Constitution of

India came into effect only on January 26, 1950. During the transition period from

1947 to 1950, King George VI was the head of state. Lord Mountbatten and

Rajagopalachari served as the Governors-General of India during this period.

Following January 26, 1950, Rajendra Prasad was elected as the first president of

India.

The Constitution of India was formally adopted by the Parliament, and India declared

itself as a "Republic" on January 26, 1950, a date thereafter celebrated annually as

Republic Day in India. The Constitution had been prepared by the Constituent

Assembly which was set up upon India gaining its independence from the British in

1947. This, in fact, was a deliberate act: the 26th of January was initially India's

"Independence Day", one of Mahatma Gandhi's many symbolic acts during India's

Freedom Struggle against the British colonial rule, and the adoption of the

Constitution on this date was felt able to strengthen its initial meaning, one calling for

Indians of all ages to declare their freedom from the British Raj. It is one of three annual

national holidays in India, the other two being the nation's Independence Day on

August 15 (since 1947) and the birthday of Mohandas K Gandhi or Mahatma

Gandhi on October 2.

JOURNEY SO FAR! Our Constitution

India is republic today. But this was possible only after a massive struggle. Many people dedicated their childhood, youth, old age, in fact, their entire life to see India and its people dwelling on the republican land. This day that we cherish today is the fruit of the extensive labor of over 200 years; it is the ramification of the ceaseless efforts and dutiful devotion of innumerous freedom fighters. And one such man was JAWAHARLAL NEHRU..

thBorn on 14 November 1889, son to Motilal Nehru, Jawaharlal Nehru played a key role in the governance of the independent India and also in the freedom struggle that preceded it. He was a famous Allahabad barrister. He did his schooling from Harrow and completed his Law degree from Trinity College, Cambridge. The seven years he spent in England widened his horizons and he acquired a rational and skeptical outlook and sampled Fabian socialism and Irish nationalism, which added to his own patriotic dedication. Nehru was instantly attracted to Gandhi's commitment for active but peaceful, civil disobedience. Gandhi himself saw promise and India's future in the young Jawaharlal Nehru. Jawaharlal Nehru took active part in the Non- Cooperation Movement 1920-1922) and was arrested for the first time during the movement.

This demand was put forth to the British administrators after a long

discussion in the company of Congress leaders and another great freedom

fighter Subhash Chandra Bose. Subhash Chandra Bose and Jawaharlal

Nehru took a strong stand for complete political independence. In December

1929, Congress's annual session was held in Lahore and Jawaharlal Nehru

was elected as the President of the Congress Party. During those sessions a

resolution demanding India's independence was passed and on January 26,

1930 in Lahore, Jawaharlal Nehru unfurled free India's flag. Nehru was

elected to the Congress presidency in 1936, 1937, and 1946, and came to

occupy a position in the nationalist movement second only to that of Gandhi.

Jawaharlal Nehru was arrested in 1942 during Quit India Movement.

Released in 1945, he took a leading part in the negotiations that culminated in

the emergence of the dominions of India and Pakistan in August 1947.

In 1947, he became the first Prime Minister of independent India. He

effectively coped with the formidable challenges of those times: the disorders

and mass exodus of minorities across the new border with Pakistan, the

integration of 500-odd princely states into the Indian Union, the framing of a

new constitution, and the establishment of the political and administrative

infrastructure for a parliamentary democracy.

THE HERO

Page 5: Vande Mataram

26th January, 1950 is one of the most important days in Indian history as it was on this day the constitution of India came into force and India became a truly sovereign state. On this day India became a totally republic. The country finally realized the dream of Mahatma Gandhi and the numerous freedom fighters who, fought for and sacrificed their lives for the Independence of their country. So, the 26th of January was declared a national holiday and has been recognized and celebrated as the Republic Day of India, ever since.Today, the Republic Day is celebrated with much enthusiasm all over the country and especially in the capital, New Delhi where the celebrations start with the Presidential to the nation. The beginning of the occasion is always a solemn reminder of the sacrifice of the martyrs who died for the country in the freedom movement and the succeeding wars for the defense of sovereignty of their country. Then, the President comes forward to award medals of bravery to the people from the armed forces for their exceptional courage in their field and also the civilians, who have distinguished themselves by their different acts of valour in different situations.

To mark the importance of this occasion, every year a grand parade is

held in the capital, from the Rajghat, along the Vijaypath. The different

regiments of the army, the Navy and the Air force march past in all their

finery and official decorations even the horses of the cavalry are

attractively caparisoned to suit the occasion. The crème of N.C.C.

cadets, selected from all over the country consider it an honour to

participate in this event, as do the school children from various schools in

the capital. They spend many days preparing for the event and no

expense is spared to see that every detail is taken care of, from their

practice for the drills, the essential props and their uniforms.

The parade is followed by a pageant of spectacular displays from the

different states of the country. These moving exhibits depict scenes of

activities of people in those states and the music and songs of that

particular state accompany each display.

The patriotic fervour of the people on this day brings the whole country

together even in her essential diversity. Every part of the country is

represented on this occasion, which makes the Republic Day the most

popular of all the national holidays of India.

CELEBRATIONS GALORE!

Page 6: Vande Mataram

This year we will be celebrating 63 years of India being a republic, but if we ask each other a simple question that what have done in helping our country individually...we all will be ashamed. Yes, India has progressed but if we compare India to any other country,we still are very behind. We always criticize the government for india being underdeveloped but we never realize that we are the culprits for India's economy being stagnant and comparatively being far behind than the other developed countries. Instead of asking questions I think its time for us to put down our foot and to take responsibility for the first time.I don't think that one party or a small group can change our country. Yes, they can light the movement but for even a movement to be successful the whole country has to be indulged in it,only then will it make a difference.

Everyday we fight for a social cause but the fight then dies out gradually because it does not get the support it requires.

Rather than fighting amongst ourselves we should be united and fight against

one common problem in our country.there are many problems in our country but

the root cause of all the problems according to me is illiteracy. This is because

illiteracy leads to poverty which leads to low standard of living which leads

to crime etc etc.hence our primary aim at this moment should be fighting

this problem. If we all take up the concept of each 1 teach even then we

won't be able to educate our whole country because of its population.

The population of problem also arised due to illiteracy.we should join all

join ngos and other organizations who support this cause.we need to

popularize the concept of night schools. It's time for us to unleash the

potential in india. It's time to remove the price tag frm education. It's time

to unseal the talent which this country stores. If we do everything as one

united country I don't think that there is any country in a world who can

even think of competing with a country as diverse as india. So let's

actually make india beautiful this year by doing something like never

before, let's bring the change to the sections of the society who are

waiting for us to knock on their door, let's wake up the real india and

celeberate this republic day by not just flag hoisting and singing the

national anthem. Let's celeberate in such a manner that this year should

mark the change in the course of development in india.
