> The master guitarist and revolutionist of six strings Paco de Lucía will return to the island, where he has chosen to live with his fam-ily, after a long absence. Over the years he has released several albums encompassing both original and modern flamenco styles and has advanced the technical and musical borders of his instru-ment – a true master capable of playing at blinding speed. With his return we have a new opportunity to see this great guitarist in action for a amazing two hour performance as he promotes his lat-est album “Cositas Buenas” on his 2010 European tour. He is also currently preparing for his next album, dedicated to copla.

Carmina Burana “Mágica”6 October (Octubre) @ 22.00

> Carl Orff´s masterpiece “Carmina Burana” returns to Palma with 150 performers on stage together with the simultaneous screening of video creations. A powerful piece of 20th century music that introduces all to the world of classical music. The world premiere in 1937 Germany was a tremendous hit that spread across opera houses becoming an international triumph. A collection of songs about wine, women and love, based on poems in Latin, German and French from a manuscript dated 1280 found in the Benedictine monastery of Beuren. Under the direction of Fernando Marina, two pianos, percussion, choir, soloists and 150 musicians take the stage. > La obra maestra de Carl Orff, “Carmina Burana”, vuelve a Palma con 150 artistas sobre el escenario junto a unas simultáneas video creacio-nes en pantalla. Una impactante pieza del siglo XX que presenta todo un mundo de la música clásica. En 1937 fue el estreno mundial en Alema-nia y se convirtió en todo un triunfo internacional a través de todos los teatros de ópera. Una colección de canciones sobre el vino, las mujeres y el amor, basadas en poemas en latín, alemán y francés de un manus-crito de 1280 encontrado en el monasterio benedictino de Beuren. Bajo la dirección de Fernando Marina, dos pianos, percusión, coro, solistas y 150 músicos, tomarán el escenario.

> Rodolfo Mederos close the 8th edition of the Guitarras del Mundo festival with the 3rd and final performance. The Argentinean ban-doneon player, arranger and composer with a vast repertoire, has played with a number of top musicians throughout his prolific career. He believes music must change minds and be openly provocative – deconstructing, arranging and transforming the soul of the viewers. One of the most emblematic figures of the Tango – his vast work cov-ers compositions from folk to symphonic, traveling through different instrumental groups.

> Rodolfo Mederos cerrará la 8ª edición del festival Guitarras del Mun-do con el 3er y último concierto. El Argentino bandolinista, arreglista y compositor, posee un enorme repertorio y ha tocado junto a un gran número de conocidos a lo largo de su prolífica carrera. Cree que la música debe cambiar las mentes y ser abiertamente provocativa - arreglando y transformando el alma de los espectadores. Una de las figuras más emblemáticas del Tango - su enorme trabajo cubre desde composiciones folk a sinfónicas, habiendo viajado por diferentes gru-pos instrumentales.

> The 6th year of this multidisciplinary festival of performing arts, music and audiovisual has taken place with a number of spectacular events since its opening. October brings a 2-day music festival on the 8th and 9th, promising something for everyone. Followed by a number of activities in the Parc de la Mar from the 22-24 includ-ing stands by various social organizations, 2 stages featuring world music performances, a large tent featuring the Argentinean Circus, an exhibition hall and screenings of films that touch on topics such as human rights and the environment among others.

> El 6º año del festival multidisciplinar de artes escénicas, música y audiovisuales, ha tomado lugar con un gran número de especta-culares eventos desde su apertura. Octubre nos brinda un festival musical de 2 días (8 y 9), prometiendo algo para todos los gustos. Seguido de un número de actividades en el Parc de la Mar (22-24) e incluyendo puestos de varias organizaciones sociales, 2 escenarios con actuaciones de músicas del mundo, una gran carpa con el Circo Argentino y un pasillo y pantallas expositivas que tratan asuntos sobre los derechos humanos y el medio ambiente, entre otras cosas.

Jazz Voyeur Festival 13 & 17 October (Octubre) @ 21.00

> The Campbell Brothers present “Sacred Steel” on the 13th – blues music with electric steel guitar and vocals. A rare music tradition rooted in the African-American Pentecostal church that has been part of the celebrations for 60 years. Today, the music has been trans-ported to the concert halls. They present a rich and varied repertoire of material in a new variant that features sounds, voices and rhythms never before heard in this context. Their use of the wah wah pedal and instruments imitating the human voice evokes the moans of the blues. The renowned Cuban drummer and percussionist, Horacio “El Negro” Hernandez & Italuba also take the stage on the 17th. > The Campell Brothers presentan el 13 “Sacred Stell” – música blues con guitarras eléctricas y voces. Una tradición de música especial arraigada en la iglesia pentecostal afroamericana que ha sido parte de las celebraciones durante 60 años. Hoy, la música ha sido tras-plantada a las salas de concierto. Presentan un repertorio rico y va-riado de material con una nueva variante destacando sonidos, voces y ritmos nunca antes oídos. Su empleo del pedal wah wah e instru-mentos que imitan la voz humana evocan los gemidos del blues. El renombrado batería y percusionista cubano, Horacio Hernandez “El Negro” e Italuba también tomarán el escenario el día 17.

Eifman Ballet “Oneguin”16 October (Octubre) @ 21.00

> The Eifman Ballet, founded in 1977 by Boris Eifman is recognised as the best Russian ballet company today. Oneguin is based on the novel by Pushkin Eugene Oneguin that portrays a character accurate to the time, creating a “poetic image of the Russian soul, mysterious, unpre-dictable and incredibly sensual”. Eifman maintains this philosophy with the story set against choreography where we see history through the eyes of a person of our time. Artistic images fused with light and sound shows creating a mixture of reality and fantasy that proves a powerful experience.

> El Ballet Eifman, fundado en 1977 por Boris Eifman, es hoy en día reconocido como la mejor compañía de ballet rusa. La obra “One-guin”, basada en la novela de Pushkin Eugene Oneguin, describe a un personaje de época de una manera precisa, creando una “imagen poética del alma rusa, misteriosa, impredecible e increíblemente sen-sual”. Eifman conserva esta filosofía con la historia de ir en contra de la coreografía donde podemos apreciar la historia a través de los ojos de nuestro tiempo. > Agustín El Casta, has the pleasure of presenting to us a special spectacle to say goodbye to the summer. The performances in-cludes El Casta himself and his two most beloved characters; the unique Klaus Kartoffel and Lorenzo Llamas. In the first part, and for the first time in theatres, the great premiere of this season: the parliament “Que Vergüenza” (What a Shame) performed by El Casta and released with great success this past July. With his usual grace he will live many of the complex situations which we have to face throughout our lives.

> The 24th Opera season of the Theatre Principal will come to a close with the work of Léo Delibes, “Lakme”. Lakmé is an opera in 3 acts based on the novel “Rarahu o le marriage” by Pierre Loti. Set in colonial India, it explores the exotic land colo-nized by the great European empires, a theme of great inspiration for the arts of the nineteenth century. > La XXIV Temporada de Ópera del Teatre Principal finalizará el próxi-mo mes con la obra de Léo Delibes “Lakmé”. En estos conciertos in-tervendrán la Orquestra Simfónica de Baleares Ciutat de Palma, el Cor del Teatre Principal, y un selecto grupo de solistas; Silvia Vázquez, Eric Fennell, Frédérique Sizaret, Maia Planas, Elsa Salord, Eulalia Sal-banyà i Manuel Velasco. > Mickey, along with 25 of his friends, are coming to Mallorca! Hit songs from films like Aladdin, The Little Mermaid & Toy Story per-formed with a mix of rock, pop, reggae, hip hop, jazz and country. Viewers will be transported to a new world of hip hop moves, breath-taking acrobatics, flying carpets and magical transformations. Under-water we meet with Arial, Sebastian and his aquatic friends to dance to the rhythm of reggae and then on to Woody, Buzz and Jessi who will teach us to dance rodeo style. Everyone can join in as balloons fall from the sky and our favourite Disney characters dance up and down the aisles. Amador Vallina, born in 1957 in El Entrego, Asturias, Spain, moved

at the beginning of the 70s to Germany. Since 1999 he also works

in his second studio on Mallorca.

His art work has been shown in many group and solo exhibitions in

Europe and can be found in collections in Germany, Switzerland,

Austria, Spain, UK, USA, and Denmark...

Initially Vallina worked figuratively. Today his work is principally

abstract and informal. The texture, the form and the darkness have

importance in quite of his creations. The experimentation in his

work is of an eternal witness.

AMADOR VALLINAHis main subjects are informal, abstract and non-referential paint-

ings on canvas and paper, but also monotypes, original prints and

sculptures of steel, wood and paper.

Vallina specializes in creating rich surfaces, textured to sculptural

reliefs by using multiple layers in mainly earthy shades. He not only

uses typical artistic materials for his compositions like pigments

and acrylics but sands, ashes, rust, plants, bones and – sometimes

entire animals. Dead animals found by the artist, like a gecko, a

skeleton of a rat or a small bird. It is not to provoke the viewer. He

makes them alive in his “natural” creations.

Sus principales temas son informales, pinturas abstractas y no referen-

ciales sobre lona y papel, pero también monotipos, grabados originales

y esculturas de acero, madera y papel.

Vallina se especializa en la creación de superficies ricas, con textura de

relieves esculturales usando múltiples capas principalmente en tonos

tierra. No sólo emplea materiales típicos artísticos como pigmentos y

productos acrílicos, también usa; arena, cenizas, herrumbre, plantas,

huesos y en ocasiones, animales enteros. Animales muertos hallados por

el artista, como una lagartija o el esqueleto de una rata o un pequeño

pájaro. No es para provocar al espectador. Él lo que hace, es darles vida

en sus creaciones “naturales”.

Amador Vallina, nació en 1957 en El Entrego, Asturias, España, y se

trasladó a principios de los años 70 a Alemania. Desde 1999 también ha

trabajado en su segundo estudio de Mallorca.

Su trabajo artístico ha sido mostrado en muchas colectivas y exposi-

ciones en solitario por Europa pudiendo ser así encontrado en colec-

ciones de Alemania, Suiza, Austria, España, el Reino Unido, EE.UU.,

y Dinamarca...

Al principio Vallina trabajó sobre todo figurativo. Hoy su obra es prin-

cipalmente abstracta e informal. La textura, la forma y la oscuridad

tienen importancia en todas sus creaciones. La experimentación en su

obra es de una eterna constancia.

We enter a world full of creative visual possibilities, a world where

the Mallorcan artist Toni Reus, age 32, has been able to leave us

completely speechless with his work. After finishing his studies

in graphic design, he began working as a graphic designer for the

kite surf brand Boreas Kite, while at the same time creating flyers

for various clubs. Soon after, he began working in an advertising

company, although the influence of art in his career would change

his course to work as a graphic designer for renowned fashion de-

signers such us Gori de Palma and to collaborate with brands such

as Lola Cuello. His approach to the world of design has always

followed the same path of art and creativity – the main objective

of this multidisciplinary artist. Since 1996 he has been a faithful

and honorable graffiti artist, who has had the chance to paint in

various parts of the world such as the Netherlands and New York.

“In my paintings I express my entire aesthetic experiences and

influences of my surroundings from graphic design, graffiti, music

and fashion.” These influences are clearly visible in his work

through the mixed hidden typographical messages and mixture of

materials used within his works.

Entramos en un mundo creativo lleno de posibilidades visuales, un

mundo donde el artista mallorquín de 32 años, Toni Reus Martinez, ha

sido capaz de dejarnos totalmente boquiabiertos con su obra. Al finali-

zar sus estudios de diseño grafico, empezó a trabajar como diseñador

para la marca de kite surf Bóreas Kite, mientras que al mismo tiempo,

creaba flyers para varias discotecas. Poco después comenzó en una

empresa publicitaria, aunque su influencia del arte en su trayectoria

le haría cambiar de rumbo y trabajar como diseñador gráfico para

reconocidos diseñadores de moda como; Gori de Palma y colaborar con

otras marcas como Lola Cuello. Su acercamiento al mundo del diseño

siempre ha seguido el mismo camino del arte y la creatividad, siendo

el principal objetivo de este multidisciplinar artista. Fiel y honor-

able graffitero desde 1996, quien ha tenido oportunidad de pintar en

diversas partes del mundo como en Holanda o Nueva York. “En mis

cuadros expreso el conjunto de experiencias e influencias estéticas de

lo que me rodea como el diseño grafico, el grafiti, música o moda.”

Dichas influencias son bien visibles en su obra, mezclando escondidos

mensajes tipográficos o a la hora de usar los materiales con los que

trabajar, creando obras en su mayoría, con una técnica mixta.
