Chiller Plant at Jamaica plain Medical Center In an ongoing effort to provide better comfort and serve our country’s Veterans, we are pleased to announce the New Jamaica Plain Central Chiller Water Plant under construction over the Warehouse E-Wing building. The plant will provide the Medical Campus a long term, reliable, energy efficient and sustainable solution for chilled water production and distribution. Durability and redundancy have been addressed via modular design of all critical equipment. The new chilled water plant will have provisions for a future ongoing central air conditioning expansion while utilizing the latest technology, energy saving mechanical equipment, including a free cooling option (when the ambient outside air temperature drops) it is utilized as an economizer chiller. Also to further increase reliability, an emergency power substation will be installed in conjunction with the chiller plant that will allow critical operations to continue during power outages. This project is the first project in a multiple-phased approach to the entire Central Air conditioning system at the facility. The final capacity upon completion of the additional phases of the Chiller Plant will be 3600 tons of chilled water per hour. The installation the New Plant will address requirements of the Medical Center for future needs bridging the gap of aged equipment. The project will provide temperature monitoring at the central power plant and remotely control individual rooms by IP address also included is a robust industrial control system interfaced with the building master system and still providing local control to all rooms. The new chiller plant (Phase 1) will provide a minimum of 50% of overall needed capacity and will allow for the gradual replacement of aging equipment located in Building 1 and existing buildings attached to Building 1 of the Medical Campus. Construction schedule milestone dates and highlights: Planned Year of completion: 2018 (estimate $22M total) Planned Phase 1 completion: 2015 ($10M) Chiller Plant building size: 3,800 Square Feet Architect: Payette Associates, Inc. Principal in Charge: Kevin Sullivan, FAIA Project Architect: Michael Hinchcliffe, AIA, LEED AP BD+C Structural Engineer: Lim Consultants, Inc. Mechanical and Electrical Engineer: BR+A
