Technical meeting with Russian valve manufacturersMoscow 24th June 2010

2Key Points Shtokman Actuated Valves
Wide range of Product Temperatures -180 to +200oC Equipment will be installed in a Arctic Marine environment Partial Stroke testing required on Emergency Shutdown Valves Partial Stroke testing on Critical Process Shutdown Valves Valve sizes range 50mm to 1400mm Total number of valves approx. 2500 (GTU and LNG) with 500 valves
which are 600 mm or above and 6 are 1100 mm or above Valve Control Panels must be supplied as an integrated package Actuator winterisation must be addressed early
N.B.: Initial design is based on international norms. However RF equivalent norms are acceptable.
A design optimisation is on going and we expect a reduction of the actual number of valves.
-
3Environmental and Winterisation Requirements
Environmental Conditions :Conditions are applicable to all valve types, control panels and associated
accessories. Temperatures: Min./ Max.: -39C / +37C Relative humidity: Max. 75% @ -39C / Min. 40% @ +37C
Winterisation principles :For all valve types, control panels and associated accessories to protect them from
arctic conditions : Instruments and actuators protected by heated enclosure (electrical heater) Local operation such as valve testing facilities shall be inside the control panel.
Open/close and reset commands shall be on the front of control panel and mechanically protected
All valves types, control panels and associated accessories shall be able to operate to these extreme temperatures with appropriate winterisation protection.
Safety Related On/Off valves, control panels and associated accessories shall be able to operate to these extreme temperatures even in case of failure of winterisation protection
-
4ON/OFF ValvesActuation and Control panels
Actuation
All On/Off Valve Actuation will be Pneumatic or Electrical
Control Panel Control panel shall be of AISI 316L stainless steel and insulated Equipped with an electrical space heater (certified for use in zone 1 as a minimum).
-
5Control Valves
Control Valves will require the same level of attention as On/Off valves with regard to the Site Environmental Conditions and Winterisation
Control Valve Actuators are foreseen as Piston/Cylinder and Diaphragm Control Valve Types : Globe, Butterfly, Eccentric Plug, Multi-Stage
Letdown All control Valves will be fitted with a Smart positioner based on HART
Protocol
OTHER CONTROL VALVES Self Acting Valves Pressure Regulators Back Pressure Regulators

6Severe Service Assessment and Selection Criteria
Manufacturers will supply Valve Calculations as per ISA Guide Control Valves, Practical Guides for Measurement and Control
General Rules for determining Severe Service : Liquid and Compressible Fluids Service: Pressure Drop is > 50 Bar for any given
flow rate Flashing Liquid Service: Pressure Drop is > 30 Bar for any given flow rate
A more detailed description of determining Severe Service can be found in the project documentation
-
7Valve Testing
Valves will require to have all the relevant Test Certificates listed in the Specifications. Examples of Tests:
Leak Test Pressure Test Material Certificates Integration Tests (with Actuator & Control panel) Cyogenic Test where applicable
-
8Relief Valve General Requirements
The safety relief valves shall be of direct-acting angle pattern and full nozzle
Conventional spring-loaded safety valves shall be used in services where there is no back- pressure
Balanced bellows safety valves shall be used for variable back pressures Pilot operated valves shall be considered on services such as light gases
at high set pressure, on clean gas in pulsating service Safety relief valves on cryogenic services shall be supplied with extended
bonnet Weight loaded relief valves shall be used only for low-pressure services
-
9Valve Material
Valve Body and Trim material will follow the same selection criteria as described in the previous Manual Valve Presentation
Specific deviations from the selection criteria would be: In severe service where the suppliers standard is a higher specification than that of
the project e.g. ceramic or titanium Corrosive service/Chemical metering where suppliers standard is Teflon of equivalent
soft trim material
