Benefits of story telling by grandparents

Story telling by grandparents to their grandchildren

benefits both of them :

– it strengthens the bond between them.

– a great way by which grandparents can transfer and

inculcate values, customs and traditions to be followed by

the next generation as the stories shared within the first

few years of the child’s life will not be easily forgotten.

The Wise Beggar

Once there lived two sages named Shaunaka and Abhipratarin. They worshipped the Vayu or the wind god. The wind god is also known as Prana, the universal soul. One day when the sages sat down to eat, a beggar came and asked for some food.

“We cannot share our food with you,” Shaunaka said.

contd…… The beggar asked," O great sages, whom do you worship?”

“Prana, the Universal soul,” Abhipratarin replied.

“Ah! It means that you know that the Prana fills the entire universe.” the beggar asked.

“Yes, yes. We know that”, the sages nodded

“If the Prana fills the whole universe, it fills me too. I am also a part of the universe.” the beggar said.

contd……

“You speak the truth.” replied the sages.

“Then, O sages, by not giving me food, you are actually denying food to the Prana.”

The sages realised the truth of what the beggar said, and shared their food with him.
