WHAT IS LASER PRINTING?

The Laser Process begins with a drum inside the Laser Cartridge that is photo conductive. A laser light creates a latent image on the drum. This latent image will now pick up statically charged toner powder creating an image on the drum.

The drum and the paper move at the same speed. When the paper and the drum meet, the paper has received a negative charge of 6000 volts. The negative charge attracts the positively charged toner, thus causing image on the drum to transfer to the paper.

The image is now fused to the paper using the more common method of heat and pressure.

A cleaning blade then removes the excess toner from the drum, thus enabling it to rotate for another round of printing.

Present•   Currently there are some interesting things going on in the industry. First and foremost is the fact that OEM’s Lexmark and Xerox have come out with their own type of remanufactured cartridges, along with IBM, Staples and Office Depot.  The reason the OEM’s are entering the remanufactured market is because they are starting to loose too much market share

(see previous CAP data).  The OEM’s are now sending mixed feelings to their customers. On one hand they tell their customer not to use remanufactured

cartridges and on other hand they are selling remanufactured cartridges.  As a selling strategy for us we need to educate our customers to this fact and look at this as a “confirmation” by the OEM’s that

using remanufactured cartridges is OK.  Finally we need to take a look at some present day numbers. We already looked at the fact that today’s remanufactured laser

cartridges account for 30% of the market (in # of units sold) as opposed to only 5% back in 1991, but did you know that today in the United States alone, over 2,000,000 laser cartridges are remanufactured each month. That right 2,000,000 a month and growing!

We need to share all of our knowledge and information with our customers so that we can educate them and win their business.  OOPS! Let’s not forget two of the most important selling points of the past, present and future. Cost savings and

environmental issues.  By supplying your customers with remanufactured laser cartridges not only are you helping them to protect our environment,

you are also providing them with significant cost savings as well.  Remanufactured Cartridges are gaining more and more acceptance by customers every day. The customers are no longer

willing to pay extremely high prices for OEM cartridges when they can get high quality OEM compatible laser cartridges at a much more reasonable price.

The next time your computerPrinter service person says, “Sorry I’ll have to void the warranty on your equipment, because you’re not using the OEM brand of toner.”or “I’ll have to charge you for this service call because you’re not using the OEM brand of

toner cartridge.” Remember It is illegal to require or force the owner of a computer printer to use only the OEM’s brand

of supplies. To make this requirement is in violation of the Sherman and Clayton Antitrust Act.

A classic example Of this was brought before the U.S. Supreme Court in 1956, involving IBM vs United States.

At the time, IBM leased data processing machines to customers with the requirement that they use only the tabulating cards manufactured by IBM. Their customers were threatened with termination of their lease if they used cards produced by other manufacturers. As decided by the U.S. Supreme court, this requirement in IBM’s lease agreement was held to constitute a “tying agreement”, and was found to be in violation of the antitrust laws.

Show this information To anyone who insists on voiding a warranty or charging you for services because they

found that you weren’t using OEM brand supplies. Protect your right to use the supplies vendor of your choice. Toner and other supplies remanufactured by Laser Connection. are guaranteed. We stand by the QUALITY of our products.

UNITED STATES ANTITRUST LAWS The Sherman Antitrust Act, the Clayton Antitrust Act and the Robinson-Patman Act of the United States prohibits restraints of trade and monopolies. In general, antitrust laws are intended to eliminate restraint of trade, monopoly, price discrimination and unfair trade

practices and, thereby preserve a competitive economy. These laws constitute a reasonably fair compromise between possible abuse of economic power by industry and strict control by government. The following capsule descriptions and example of how they might apply in the market will help you, our customer; protect yourself from being forced to pay higher prices for business supplies than necessary.

 A.     The Sherman Antitrust Act.The act prohibits agreements or conspiracies that have the effect of restraining interstate and foreign trade such as

monopolization or attempts to monopolize, fixing prices or boycotts against third parties. B.     The Clayton Antitrust Act.The Act prohibits specific practices that have the probable effect of lessening competition, such as: preventing a purchaser

from dealing in goods of a competitor where the effect may be to substantially lessen competition; or, making acquisitions where the effect may be lesson competition or tend to create a monopoly.

 C.     The Robinson-Patman Act of June 19, 1936The act supplements existing laws against unlawful restraints of trade and monopolies and simply adds definition and

expands the Sherman and Clayton Antitrust Acts.
