PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE If you have a strong commitment to your goals and dreams, if you wake up every day with a passion to do your job, everything is possible. Chantal Petitclere
Dear Parents and Carers, What a great start to the school year! After visiting classes throughout the week, I am pleased to say that the staff and students are enjoying their classes and establishing wonderful work routines for a productive and successful year ahead. It is fantastic to see and hear the positive and enthusiastic spirit that is present within the school and community. I would like to congratulate our newly elected house captains for their successful nominations. We know you will do a magnificent job in leading your sports houses throughout the year. Swimming Carnival Yesterday we held our annual swimming carnival. This was a fantastic day with all teachers very proud of the participation and outstanding behaviour of our students. I was impressed by the way that all students got in and “had a go”. There were many amazing performances from our students and I loved watching the great sportsmanship and team spirit shown by all our students. A very big thank you for all the staff and especially to Mrs Harpur and Mrs Wilson for their organisation of the swimming carnival. Thank you, to the many parents who volunteered their time to assist on the day. Without your assistance, we could not run such an organised event. Parent Information Evening Our parent information evening will be on this Wednesday, 13th February. The teachers are looking forward to meeting parents and carers. These information sessions are a great opportunity to meet your child’s teacher and receive information about the year ahead, classroom organisation, expectations and the class program. The information sessions will be in classrooms and are as follows: Kindergarten – 3:30pm-4:00pm – Mrs Barrett (KB), Mrs Koopman (KK) Stage 1- 4:15pm-4:45pm – Mrs Bulloch (K/1B), Mrs Hollingsworth and Mrs Anderson (1 HA), Mrs
Horncastle and Mrs McCabe (1/2HM), Mrs Betteridge (2B) Stage 2- 5:00-5:30pm – Mrs Pratt (2/3P), Mrs Tomlinson (3S), Mr Tosevic (3/4T) and Mrs Harpur (4H) Stage 3 – 5:45- 6:15pm Mrs Wilson (4/5W), Mrs Turner (5/6T), Mr Keyes (5/6K) and Mrs Harrington (K-6H) Extended Leave from Attendance If you are planning a family holiday during the school term for more than 5 days, you need to apply for an Application for Extended Leave from school. An application for Extended Leave – Travel form can be collected from the office. Once completed please return it to the Principal at least two weeks prior to the leave then an approved Certificate of Extended Leave – Travel is issued. The original certificate is signed, copied for school records and returned to parents. The certificate needs to be carried during leave, as it must be produced when requested by police or other authorised attendance officers. School Uniform It is great to see so many children wearing full school uniform, especially black shoes. We remind students that jewellery should be kept to a minimum including stud type earrings and all students require a school hat. Morning Assembly It is wonderful to have a high level of community support at our morning assemblies; however, I kindly ask parents to please model appropriate behaviour by not talking during announcements.
Yours in Education

STUDENT WELLBEING Here are a few handy tips for parents:
Encourage children to set goals and take responsibility Encouraging children to set goals and take responsibility for the upcoming year is a great way to get in
the right frame of mind. Research shows that children who are setting learning goals are consistently more motivated and take learning more seriously. Of course, what this means will depend on your child’s age, even younger children can be given simple goals to focus on, even if it’s just packing their backpack before bed each night; you can ease into the discussion by reading books about school and talking about what to expect and the school routine. Find out what they’ll be working on and if there’s anything specific they’d like to accomplish, and then work together to make a list of steps they’ll need to take to reach these goals.
Engage with their curriculum It’s always a good idea to talk to your child about what they have been learning, but if you can, try to
speak with your child’s teacher as well. This will give you a chance to find out what you can do to support your child at home and also be aware of any specific areas they may need to work on. Source: https:// education.nsw.edu.gov.au

have already been sent home with information on how to
purchase the shirts.

DRIVING AND PARKING SAFELY NEAR YOUR SCHOOL
The beginning and end of the school day are busy times for pedestrians and drivers outside schools.
You can help keep children safe by remembering the following:
Never park on school grounds for drop off and pick up times. Please do not drive up the school driveways in the mornings and afternoons.
Drop your child off and pick them up on the school side of the road.
Never call out to them from across the road - it is very dangerous.
Always take extra care in 40km school zones.
Follow all parking signs - these help keep your child as safe as possible.
Park responsibly even if it means you have to walk further to the school gate.
Never double park - it is illegal and puts children at risk.
Never do a U-turn or a three point turn outside the school as it puts children at risk of harm.
Model safe and considerate pedestrian and driver behaviours to your child.
