PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE “Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.” Les Brown It has been another great week of learning at Valley View Public School. Thank you so much to all our parents who were able to attend the parent/teacher interviews over the last few weeks. This is always such an important time to meet your child’s teacher and find out what is happening at school for your child. Easter Hat Parade Our Easter Hat Parade was a great success with some fantastic Easter hat creations. It was pleasing to see so many parents, grandparents and friends attend. Congratulations to Mrs Bulloch (Easter Hat Parade Co-ordinator) and the K-2 team for organising such a wonderful event. Thank you to our P&C for their hard work and for helping to raise money for our school. Also a big thank you to all of our students and supportive parents for your generous donations. The children (K-2) and our student leaders enjoyed a visit to Chamberlain Gardens to wish everyone a very Happy Easter. It is so wonderful to see such community spirit. Congratulations Congratulations once again to Liam, Olivia, Emma and Ava who represented our school and the Brisbane Water PSSA at the Sydney North State Swimming Carnival on Thursday, 29th March. An amazing achievement by all. Thank you to Miss Tysoe who represented our school on the day of the carnival and helped with the organisation at Sydney North. Congratulations to Riley P who participated in the trials for the Sydney North Cricket team. Riley was successful in gaining a position on the team. An outstanding achievement! Lorenzo G and Riley were also successful in gaining a position in the combined Central Coast Rugby League team. Well done boys! What makes a good book for young kids? Reading opens a whole world of travel, world history, science, space either in a factual or fictional way, which stimulates the imagination. Please encourage your child to read every night. Books with vivid imagery, exciting stories and strong characters will not only entertain your child but set them up to enjoy reading for the rest of their life. Find out more: http://www.schoolatoz.nsw.edu.au/zh/homework-and-study/english/my-book-club/what-makes-a-good-book-for-young-kids School Holidays School will break for the autumn school holidays on Friday, 13th April. Students will return on Tuesday, 1st May. Fixed Playground Equipment The fixed playground equipment is closed for maintenance until further notice. We apologise for any inconvenience and hope to re-open the fixed equipment as soon as possible. A Question or Concern I encourage you to contact the school to talk about a question or concern you may have. Most things can be solved in a timely manner by talking to the school office staff, your child’s teacher or an executive member of staff. The classroom teacher should be your first point of call if your question or concern is linked directly to your child/children. They know your child and are best placed to help you. Organising a mutually agreeable time in person or via the front office will ensure issues can be resolved in a timely manner. If you are not happy with the result or if you do not feel it is appropriate to talk to the classroom teacher, please phone and make an appointment to discuss your concerns with the appropriate executive member of staff. Executive staff are as follows: Ms Michelle Stone (Kindergarten to Year 2), Mr Luke Tosevic (Years 3 and 4) and Mrs Kellie McCabe/ Mr Chad Wootton (Years 5 and 6). If you still feel your concern has not been adequately addressed, it may be appropriate to organise a meeting with myself via the front office.

“Together we achieve” Yours in Education

RUGBY LEAGUE TRIALS On Friday the 16th of March, four students were selected to represent Valley View at the combined Rugby League trials. With students across both the Brisbane Water and Southern Central Coast regions competing, it is an extremely competitive trial. Valley View has two students, Riley P and Lorenzo G, represent the region in the Sydney North trial. We wish both students the best of luck for the trial held on the 4th of April.

PSSA CRICKET TRIALS The great sporting achievements continue at Valley View with Riley P. making into the Sydney North team in Cricket. In Term 4 Riley will be travelling to Barooga on the border of Victoria, and will be involved in a week long carnival involving the best of the best from other regions across the state. It is the first time in 5 years since a Valley View student has made it into a Sydney North team! Congratulations to Riley, Valley View will be supporting you in this endeavour.

CHAMBERLAIN GARDENS VISIT On Wednesday 28th March K-2 students and Year 6 Leaders walked across to Chamberlain Gardens with

their wonderful Easter hats. We walked around the residents with a smile to show everyone our Easter hats.

Everyone loved it! Some students even had a chance to get pictures with Miss Davies’ Grandma and with

some carers. We all know the leaders had a great time. Students from K-6, kindly made over 120 Easter

cards to present to the residents. They thought it was sweet and lovely. After that we all walked back to

school, everyone had a great time!

INTRODUCING OUR HOUSE CAPTAINS We would like to introduce our House Captains over the next few weeks. This week we would like you to meet:

Hi, my name is Ella and I am the McKay House Captain for 2018. I am 11 years old and I love to swim. I swim at Wyoming and I am in Junior Squad. I have represented the school in zone swimming, zone cross country. I also have been fortunate to join the girls cricket team. I love trying new things and doing my best in them. I am in 5/6T. My teacher is Mrs Turner.

Hi. My name is Riley and I am McKay’s House Captain for 2018. I play heaps of sports, and I like cricket, footy, and touch footy. I play cricket for Narara and Central Coast and I was voted the best wicket keeper in the State and I play footy for Erina, we won the competition in 2016. I play touch for Central Coast and we have played at Nelson Bay and Port Macquarie. Thank you from Riley

THIS WEEK IN PBL! When another student is treating us in a way that we dislike, we need to defuse the situation by saying STOP. If the behaviour does not stop, we then need to WALK away. Lastly, if you are followed you need to TALK to a teacher. TRY THIS! Discuss “What is Bullying?” It is repeated behaviour on more than one occasion by the same person to the same person. It is still unsafe and disrespectful behaviour – BUT REPEATED! Don’t forget to ACT OUT examples and non-examples of STOP, WALK, TALK in relation to disrespectful behaviour and bullying. Examples should include one off incidents and repeated behaviour.

GIVE IT A GO! Practise saying “STOP” Practise walking Away Practise talking to a teacher
