Figures worldwide top 50 million annually.” The flyer goes on to say, “The time has come for God’s church to rise up and with a mighty voice cry out against the atrocity of abortion that destroys not only the baby’s life but forever changes the life of its mother.” Dear Valley Isle Fellowship, we need to stop the apathy in the Christian Church that surrounds the murder of so many innocent lives. This atrocity has gone on for nearly a generation and our children and grandchildren are so desensitized about this tragedy that many of them don’t even see this murder of millions as a problem. As the other Pastors and I have been trying to lift up the authority of the Word of God, the Bible, we are struck with the evilness of abortion and all of the deception that surrounds it. One of the deadly deceptions that surround it, is the attempt to promote some kind of righteous platform in caring for the women who are faced with this choice of life or abortion. As your pastor, I care very deeply for the plight of every woman who is faced with this challenge. However, I will stick out my neck in saying that there is no righteousness in choosing abortion. In fact we are actually hurting those that we are actually trying to help by encouraging them and supporting them to choose abortion. As Biblical Christians, our highest priority is to be pleasing unto the Lord Jesus Christ. We have to seek to love the Lord our God with all of our heart, mind, and soul. The second highest priority is to encourage and lead others into that same kind of love and obedience to our Lord. Therefore, I ask the question, “How can we be helping women by encouraging and supporting them in a decision and act that dishonors the Lord?” In the grand scheme of things, when we say that this sin of abortion is OK and the church’s silence subsequently OK’s it as well, what other sins will the church OK? We are on a slippery slope that will lead to dishonoring the Lord Jesus Christ. Is that where we really want to be? lives to the Lord. That Southern Baptist Flyer has a section titled, Where do we begin: “We begin on our knees as we cry

out to God for forgiveness, realizing

that we have closed our eyes and

looked the other way far too long as

young women believed the lies of the

world and chose abortion. And there

was no one there to refute the lie.

The good news is that it is not too

late for God to forgive our sins and

use us for His purposes in this battle

for life. That forgiveness is ours

whether we have chosen abortion in

the past or have simply stood by in

judgment of others instead of

showing, and sharing, the love of Christ.

The time has come for the church to

rise up against abortion and

become involved in the lives of

those who chose abortion in the

past or who now face unwanted

pregnancy.”

The Flyer continues with the section

titled, What can I do:

“1. CALL your nearest

pregnancy resource center and ask

how you can help.

2. Reach out with loving arms to

those experiencing crisis

pregnancies in your church or your

neighborhood. Get involved in

their lives and help meet their

needs.

3. Share the Good News of God’s

love by lovingly sharing with

others the way to receive

forgiveness for sin and accept

Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.”

As your Pastor, I want to encourage you to pray and support the Malama Pregnancy Center here in Wailuku. This is a work in progress and you can get involved as they are only weeks away from opening a Crisis Pregnancy Center. Let’s rise up and be the people of God that will bring glory and honor to Him in all areas of our community. God bless you all!

Then You Will Know Jesus A Spiritual Devotion by Pastor Darren Sarmiento

During the month of January we pastors wanted to preach messages on Sunday mornings that would get you to know the Savior, Jesus. Not that you don’t know Him, but that you would build a stronger and meaningful relationship with Him each and every day. Now, you might be asking, how can I get to know Him better? I would like to suggest (and it is not exhaustive), that you look out for three things you need to recognize in your relationship with Jesus.

1. Jesus is my Best Friend. John 15:13-15 NRSV In these verses Jesus is going to lay down His life for His disciples because He knows them by name and as His friends. They know HIM and are a part in completing the mission Jesus was sent to do. This is intimacy. Do you see your relationship with Jesus being like this? Then you will know Jesus.

2. Jesus is my Answer to every situation I encounter. Hebrews 2:18, 4:15-16 NLT In these verses Jesus faced every temptation than we might even think of going through or have gone. Yet, in spite of all the temptations He did not sin. In fact, the verses reveal that Jesus endured them all. When we come to the conclusion that all my problems can be and is solved by Jesus being the answer, then you will know Jesus.

3. My life I now live, I live for HIM. Matthew 11:37-39 NLT In these verses there is an absolute answer to live your life for HIM. If Jesus is not the priority and reason you are living in this world, then, you will not live with HIM in the next world, which is heaven. Is your life patterned after the spoken words of the Lord in Matthew? Then you will know Jesus.

There are three practical things I highly suggest that we need to do in order to know Jesus. 1. Read your Bible to draw close to God and Jesus. 2. Pray and seek the Lord for knowledge and insight. 3. Be around people who know Jesus that can model for you what it means to know Jesus.

Even as I have pointed these things out to you, it still needs a more in depth understanding than what I wrote. I am willing to sit down with you and talk about this. In fact, I welcome you to meet with me.

Conclusion: The reason we pastors want you to know Jesus is so that you can tell others about Him and encourage them to get to know Jesus.

Lord’s Supper: January 26th will be the next time that we observe the Lord’s Supper. This year we will be observing this ordinance on the last Sunday of March, May, July, September, and November.

Politics & the Church: Pastor Stephen will continue to study and keep aware of political issues that should be of concern to all people of faith in Jesus Christ. He has setup a new email address, [email protected]. Send him an email at this address and he will send you information that he receives.

Needed: Volunteers We are in need of people to volunteer to clean our church facilities on High Street. Tasks include cleaning of 4 bathrooms, vacuuming, sweeping and mopping of floors and emptying of trash. If you can help, we ask that you sign up on the back table. We are asking that this work be done on Thursday, Friday, or Saturday of the week that you are able to volunteer. If 3 people were to volunteer each week, it would take only about an hour or so to complete. By joining together in this task, we can have fellowship, fun, and bring glory and honor to the Lord. Please pray about this need.
