From the Master in the East Worshipful Armand Ballesil

FROM THE EAST

Greetngs Brethren,

It's being said, that one of the goals of our insttuton is "To make good men become beter.” Afer beter, then thepursuit excellence. Well, of course all the teaching of Masonry are directed to excellence, whether in the performanceof our duty to God, our country, our neighbor or ourselves. The contnuing efort to improve oneself is the true mark ofa Mason. We must constantly remember that in every moment of our life, in public, at work, with our family, atpleasure or even alone, we are a Mason.

The uninitated- always judge our insttuton and each of us. Missteps are always notced. This in one of their gauge towhether to join the Fraternity or just stay critcal. Before we can expect to atract good men, our conduct andreputaton in public should be refned and moderated. We must learn to conduct ourselves with due order andpropriety and it should be the duty of every Mason to be loyal to the Fraternity and be obedient to its laws. This is afundamental requirement.

The Dress Code- In many Jurisdictons, there is no mandatory dress code, but this does not mean that we shoulddisregard our appearance. Although as Masons " We regard no man for his worldly wealth....", Human societyeverywhere considers a man's outward appearance as the refecton of his inner self and attude. Let then, at all tmesyour apparel should be appropriate for the occasion. When atending a Stated Meetng, remember that the altar ofMasonry is the altar of God. Thus the clothes you would wear for your other pleasures or just a stroll in the park maynot be appropriate for work done in the Lodge room. Concerning appropriate dress, a dark business suit (or as theMaster prefers- summer atre) is ofen acceptable for a Lodge meetng.

At Tiled Meetngs- At the sound of the gavel in the East, the Ofcers and Brethren take their places and the Lodgecomes to order. This means that everyone is seated unless called up by the Worshipful Master or unless rising toaddress the Worshipful Master. In most introductons, all speaking is directed to the East. Therefore, it is improper fortwo Brother to speak to each other during an open discussion, unless directed by the Worshipful Master, and it isnever proper for two Brothers to hold a private conversaton (whispered or otherwise) in a Lodge at labor.Brothers, these are few thoughts to guide us, to beter ourselves.

Upon the Square.

I've invited at least adozen range officers to assist and guide us to make sure thatwe are having fun in a very safe manner. See you at therange in Apri.

THE SUN IS IN THE WEST As we approach the atmosphere of

renewal, change is upon us. We transition into the secondquarter of this year. We have met all the challenges thatwere ahead of us with clear vision, dedication, andcommitment to achieve nothing but the better outcome. Wecontinue to confer degrees each month and to includeproficiencies for our newly initiated and passed brothers. This is indication of progress in the making. I personallyencourage our membership to directly involve themselves inall our Lodge activities. This is the moments to step forwardand be accounted for, ask what you can contribute for thebetterment of our Lodge. We should all be proud due to thefact that we are “Masons” and most importantly we aremembers of Naval Lodge No. 87.

We initiated Bro. Evan Davis on March 16, 2017and Bro. Brando Cruz on March 30, 2017, respectively intothe Fellowcraft Degree. Congratulations to both of youbrothers. I highly encourage you both to participate in ourSchool of Instruction (SOI) to broaden your knowledge aboutMasonry in general which is scheduled every month by ourDistrict Inspector WB John Wasson. This is also a source ofvehicle that can assist you in understanding the symbolismand allegories about our Ancient Craft, and updates to ourrituals.

Quotable Quotes1] Prayer is not a “spare wheel” that you put outwhen in trouble, but it is a “steering wheel” thatdirects the right path throughout.2] So a Car’s WINDSHIELD is so large & the Rearview Mirror is so small? Because our PAST is not asimportant as our FUTURE. So, Look Ahead andMove on.3] Friendship is like a BOOK. It takes few secondsto burn, but it takes years to write.4] All things in life are temporary. If going well, enjoy it, they will not last forever. If going wrong, don’t worry, they can’t last long either.5] Old Friends are Gold! New Friends are Diamond! If you get a Diamond, don’t forget the Gold!Because to hold a Diamond, you always need a Baseof Gold!

Lastly, I would like to thank every one of you withall my heart for assuming the responsibilities (as SeniorWarden) while I am out of the country. Your kindness andcooperation are greatly appreciated. I recognized theBrotherly Love !!!!

101 Temple Way Vallejo, CA 94591 (707) 644-0124 www.naval-lodge87.org tSated Meeting First Thursday of the Month April 6, 2017

To the Master, Wardens, & Members,

My Brothers after doing a check on our Fees for degrees and affiliation I have found that we are not charging enough, our current charge for degrees is $250, our actual cost are as follows:

Name Tag $ 17.00Apron 58.00Apron Calligraphy 15.00Degree Books Etc. 75.00 Includes all degrees also includes officer & lodge manuals and cipher Masonic Bible 35.00Trowel 15.00 Only engraved with Naval Lodge $87 no dates of degrees.Postage 10.00 For all three degreesMiscellaneous 200.00 All 3 degrees also maintenance & replacement for Candidate’s clothing etc. Total $ 425.00 These are actual costs to the lodge and the candidate should pay them not the lodge. In addition to these costs theGrand Lodge adds fees totaling $104 at this time but can go up from time to time. Making the total for degrees $529.Keep in mind that the costs above increase over time and should be monitored yearly.

At our current fee for degrees $250 we are losing $175 which the lodge is subsidizing for each candidate and weshouldn’t do that, so we need increase our fees. I therefor propose that Naval Lodge #87 increase our fees for degreesby $175 to make it $425 for degrees plus Grand Lodge Fees and $125 plus any Grand Lodge Fees for Affiliation. Thisamendment will be voted on at the May 4,2017 stated meeting this letter will be sent to all Members of Naval Lodge#87 on 4.7.17, per CMC 802.020 Lodge Bylaws Article IV Amendments Section 1. Thank you for your consideration inthis matter.

Fraternally and Sincerely,

Barry L. Hughes, PMSecretaryNaval Lodge #87
