Standards

Implementation of standards
…but where to start…
![Page 3: Validation](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022070301/54525503af7959d2098b6022/html5/thumbnails/3.jpg)
The quality of the implementation of standards
In short: a story about a chicken, an egg and a pan.
A story about validationand about the questions
like when something is conformant and when notand when something is good and when not.
![Page 4: Validation](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022070301/54525503af7959d2098b6022/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
An authoring tool a learning object and a learning environment
One takes…
![Page 5: Validation](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022070301/54525503af7959d2098b6022/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
…ends up to be a tasty results
A good implementation of standards
![Page 6: Validation](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022070301/54525503af7959d2098b6022/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
There are divergent implementation of standards
…but not for contentPretty authoring tools…
![Page 7: Validation](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022070301/54525503af7959d2098b6022/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
There are divergent implementation of standards
…it might not play your content very well.
And even though a player uses a standard…
![Page 8: Validation](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022070301/54525503af7959d2098b6022/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
There are divergent implementation of standards
…can not always be played in your playerOpen content…
…or maybe it can be provided you use the right wrapper
![Page 9: Validation](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022070301/54525503af7959d2098b6022/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
There are divergent implementation of standards
You might even have real pretty players…
![Page 10: Validation](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022070301/54525503af7959d2098b6022/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
There are divergent implementation of standards
…but will every content fit?
You might even have real pretty players…
![Page 11: Validation](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022070301/54525503af7959d2098b6022/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
There are divergent implementation of standards
Some divergent implementations might give the same result…
![Page 12: Validation](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022070301/54525503af7959d2098b6022/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
There are divergent implementation of standards
…but sometimes you just know that some implementations are never going to work.
![Page 13: Validation](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022070301/54525503af7959d2098b6022/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
But even a good implementation of standards
…might result in failure when used the wrong way.
![Page 14: Validation](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022070301/54525503af7959d2098b6022/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
What does all this mean for validation?
Standards

Validation
You can’t validate everything… and it doesn’t always matter…
![Page 17: Validation](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022070301/54525503af7959d2098b6022/html5/thumbnails/17.jpg)
Validation
You can’t validate everything… and it doesn’t always matter…Leaving room for innovation might even lead to unexpected paradigm shifts
![Page 18: Validation](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022070301/54525503af7959d2098b6022/html5/thumbnails/18.jpg)
Recommendations
• Validation shows you if implementations of standards will result in actual interoperability. …Most of the time…
• …for it is also clear you can’t predict all pre-conditions on forehand.
• So a validation process should not lead to blind acceptance or rejections, but you want analyses and recommendations, which are periodically evaluated by users and standardization organizations.

egg of Columbus?
Yes, but a brilliant idea always needs follow up and maintenance.
