N: I can understand you coming up with a lot of new costs to cover the shortfall, and even how many

of these might seem reasonable from your point of view. However, I think it's important to remember

how critical it is that any costs be airtight and reasonable at this point, given 1) the level of scrutiny

this is now under, 2) the fact that this was an event run for charity, 3) the fact that the charity

donations for the event were dealt with incorrectly as you've admitted; and 4) that you have already

been proven to have deliberately supplied inaccurate information regarding the accounts of this event

(the putting a 1 in front of the total incident). Hence, unfortunately, most of the new expenses in the

latest version of accounts you sent are not acceptable in my view. Please understand that I have

given this a lot of consideration, and that my decisions are all absolutely final - I've already wasted far

too much of my own precious time on this whole sorry affair, including most of today, (which I would

have far rather spent with my family), and hence am at this point completely unwilling to enter into anydebate on any of this, in any way whatsoever - my word is absolutely final, full stop, end of - I ask that

you please respect that, and also any decisions I make, no matter what your personal feeling on them

might be.  A: Please dont see my points below as nit-picking, just trying to shore up what isgoing to happen, and how it is going to happen, and make sure that it will be donein a fair and balanced manner, and that we can come to a mutual agreement overall of this.N: It will be done as I see fit. I am a fair and honest man. This statementpresupposes that I am otherwise, and I strongly resent that. Especially coming fromsomeone already proven to be otherwise. I'm not willing to enter into any further

debates over any of this. I've had enough now. I'll respond to your points below, butthis is now it, until I publish my post on the forum having finalized the accounts to myown satisfaction. At that point you can take or leave it as you see fit. I'm not willing toenter into debate on any of this any more - this is it now, it's causing me and myfamily too much upset and wasted time.

N: Anything you got to keep afterwards is not an acceptable expense, e.g. prizes not used, printers, paper, pens, etc - they essentially became your assets at that point, regardless of whether or not theywere originally procured for the event, or with the event in mind, or what happened to them there orthereafter. Where these are things that some of may have been used but probably not theoverwhelming majority of, they also do not count (e.g. a ream of paper, ink in a pen, etc).

Anything with no receipt to back it up is not acceptable at this point given the circumstances. One

exception is the spot prizes, which I personally remember were bought; though as my memory serves

we bought 5 (one per round), for about a fiver each - I think one was not used/claimed for the round it

Page 6: Valhallagate Final Post

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/valhallagate-final-post 6/14

should have been, so went to Lee Palmer as a nearly man for best army. Apologies if I got that wrong,

but in the absence of a receipt we'll have to go with my recollection; i.e. it cost ~£25. I have

approximated what was used for the event from the Makro receipt, though, e.g. 2KG of bacon,

certainly wasn't, (it came to £95 total that was used of the £120 by my estimation). Cakes I remember

were made at your expense, so will be included - for the sake of it I accept the £20 figure given for

costs on those. A: Would it be possible for you to list what is not acceptable? Just so I know where you stand on

these, and also why you find them unacceptable. Please read the rest of my reply first though.

N: Yes in full when I finalise the accounts and not before, as I've said several times - you get the

picture from what I said in this email though I'm sure.

A: The Spot prizes were £12 each, as they had a limited edition Jack Daniels Glass and miniature in

them (5x£12 = £60). The bacon was the bacon we ate on the mornings of the event. The pens and

paper we used over the event were not returned, and we used all of the two reams of paper we

bought (between player packs, results slips, lunch vouchers, round drawings, etc). Also, the event

could not have happened without some of those things you are saying are unacceptable expenses

(e.g the printers, paper, pens, extension lead, etc). It is almost impossible for me to get some of thereceipts for things paid for over 10 months ago, especially as I hadnt planned on all this happening.

As such, I feel it is unfair to ultimately right of anything that doesnt have a receipt, and I feel that as

long as they are reasonable prices (and reasonable spends) in your eyes, they should be allowed to

stand.

N: WIth no receipt it's a fiver each I recall - apologies if that's wrong - without receipts if this goes to

court you get £0. Pens and paper I will include - fair enough (though again with no receipts I

shouldn't). Food is not acceptable.

N: Petrol is not an acceptable expense - yes, you and Mel doubtless spent money on petrol driving

around for Valhalla stuff (as indeed did I - and possibly more!). However, as you were attending the

University at the time, it's not like you weren't around there anyway, plus it was only down the road for

you, so how you arrive at £270 on petrol is beyond me. (And no, I don't want to know how you arrived

at that figure, and that is it not to be included in the accounts/expenses is my honest opinion, and

hence also my final word on the matter as stated above). Ditto parking.  A: I wasnt attending the university at the time, as I was not enrolled on any modules during the first

semester (or the second for that matter). It still takes the best part of 25 minutes to get into

Portsmouth from our house, and the amount of times both Mel and I had to go to the Uni to sort it all

out was huge. The cost of petrol factors in the several large trips we had to make due to picking up

items (the 2 visits to a house near Brighton to borrow the catering water heater for the tea/coffee, the

trip to Makro in Southampton, the site visits to several places around the Portsmouth area, the

numerous trips Mel had to do over the weekend to go and get things from Supermarkets, home, the

printer cable from her parents in Chichester, the list goes on). I definitely remember paying out for two

fill ups for both cars, and have approximated the fuel cost to what it averagely takes to fill up our cars.N: Petrol is not an acceptable expense.

N: Food for us is also not an acceptable expense, given the event was ultimately run for charity. Yes

some of that expense probably fairly falls on me (maybe £15-20 or whatever). You will pick this up

though, as it's not a princely sum, and I think it's the least you could do at this point, given everything

you've put me through! Ditto the tenner Mel remembered giving to me at the end - I don't say it didn't

happen - but as I don't remember it, I'm afraid it was for my troubles at this point, (and believe me it

doesn't come anywhere near what I would charge a client for the time I've spent on this - today

alone!).  A: Looking back with hindsight, this is probably the case. However, we wouldn't have had the help

from the two lads that helped out with out this, and their help was huge, as they could do the little

tasks (along with Mel) that allowed me to run the admin side of things. They also went about selling

Page 7: Valhallagate Final Post

8/13/2019 Valhallagate Final Post

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/valhallagate-final-post 7/14

the dice, which really helped out. I also feel that without their help, things would have run a hell of a lot

worse than they did.

N: Food is not an accepatble expense.

N: Unfortunately, there was what appears to be an honest error made in the charge for caretakers -

this omitted VAT - which amounted £115.40, which is payable (i.e. it still needs to be paid by you).Ironically, this only came up because of the level of scrutiny we were forced to apply after a "1" was

added to the front of that receipt total, (and it is 100% certain at this point that that had to have either

been done by you, or with your knowledge/collusion). That constitutes fraud. I also know that you

contacted the SU in an effort to prevent me from getting that evidence - further proof that you knew

full well that what you were doing was fraudulent - and counter to my express wishes that you not

contact them, but instead leave it entirely to me to investigate the accounts in a fair and reasonable

manner. You should also realise that the Students Union is also a registered charity, hence in my

eyes it is also utterly unacceptable that any costs resulting from Valhalla should fall on them - this

includes the aforementioned unpaid VAT on the caretakers bill, (of which you may well have been to

this point genuinely unaware), and also the damages and cleaning costs of £393 that remain unpaid,

(despite your having falsely claimed that they were paid in the original accounts you presented).

Although these charges have been paid for by Portsmouth University itself at this point, (who arefurious about it), the Student Union Chief Executive feels sure that these costs will ultimately fall on

the SU. Either way, I expect them to be paid (see below).

A: I stand by the fact I did not alter the receipt, and I do not know what happened with it. I did not

contact the SU to stop you speaking to them, in fact, I had contacted them to only let you deal with all

this, as I stated when we spoke on the phone, as to stop any Joe Public interfering with what you

were/are doing. I had put the damages as paid as I had taken them on myself, and have been

struggling to raise the money to pay the SU for it. It was never my intention to make the SU pay for it.

I was completely unaware about the VAT charge until last week, as no-one from the SU had

contacted me about this at all.

N: You did alter the receipt or at the very least it must have been done with your full knowledge and

collusion, (probably by Mel as the only other person who had access). I have the evidence, it is as

damning as it is compelling, and would stand up in court. I and the SU are in no doubt on this

whatsoever. I am not willing to enter into discussions on this in any way any more. I will present the

evidence in full to the community, (and to the police and in court should it come to that), and let them

decide for themselves on the basis of the evidence. Whether or not you choose to admit to any wrong

doing is up to you, but the truth is self evident at this point, so it is incredibly frustrating and annoying

that you choose to argue about it still, when I've been gracious enough to put it to one side. Do not

bring this up to me again.

N: Referees were given free tickets and t-shirts - in retrospect I think this was overly generous on your

behalf (especially there having been 8 of us, which was also overkill!). That is except for myself and

Bryan, who clearly did deserve it, as we both did a lot of work in support of the event prior and over

the weekend (not that the others didn't). Still, that was the decision that was made, and hence - aftergiving it some thought - I am not personally willing to seek remuneration from them for that on your

behalf, though as I say, I do believe you were overly generous in that regard; as generous as you

were, a deal is a deal and it would be churlish to take it back long after the service has been

rendered, and for reasons created by your dishonesty/mistakes. Listing this as £30 each on the

accounts is therefore confusing and counter-productive - it was £0 each, and £0 total, and so it

remains, and that is that.

A: The total for the 'free' tickets were not taken into the accounts, but put on there in case you were

wondering where the other £240 was (total of 99 players). It was not the intention to confuse or be

accounted for, and was just put in there for reference.

N: I get it - and I got it in the first place. This is a non issue and hence not worth spending any more

time on.

Page 8: Valhallagate Final Post

8/13/2019 Valhallagate Final Post

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/valhallagate-final-post 8/14

N: As already communicated, the money raised directly for charity should have been dealt with

entirely separately from the profit/loss of the event itself. I now have 2 different numbers for that, and

want to know why one is based on this calculation: £339.7+£33.87+£30=£403.57, and one is based

on this calculation: £333.12+£77.13=£410.25? The second one I know is a per day figure from the

hand-written reckonings you just sent through from Mel; so what is the first one based on? [N: NB I

never got answers to these questions] FYI By my calculations the dice alone should have raised inthe order of £350, so if this includes raffle, drinks, cakes, should it in fact be the sum of these

numbers, i.e. £813.82 that is owed? It seems weird you seem to be saying that the event should pay

for all the drinks bought cos they were all used (i.e. by submitting the Makro receipt), and therefore it

appears from my rough calculations that we must have made next to nothing on the raffle, which I

know is not the case. Is there any record of how many raffle tickets were actually sold? How much

were they? [N: no reply] This element does not add up for me - please be honest as if I think you're

lying to me anymore, (on anything), I will likely not be as lenient on next steps as I currently intend,

(see below). By my crude (but IMO fair) reckoning, dice alone should have raised approx (min) £350,

drinks would have a probable 100% mark up (ish) so approx £94.72 based on my calculations on

what was used from the Makro receipt, and raffle cost £100 and therefore raised £0.00? Cakes made

£0? It just doesn't stack up. Be fairly warned that if I don't get answers I believe on this matter, I will

feel forced to approximate what the charity yield "should" have been based on the investment made,(unfortunately the fraud on the caretakers receipt means that I can't accept hand written accounts on

faith at this point!); therefore I advise you to be honest, as my current thinking FYI is it should actually

be the sum of those two figures above, which apparently clearly relate to different things, minus the

verifiable costs (of ~£162 for dice + ~£95 drinks + £100 raffle (if verified) + £20 cakes = £377), this

would come to £436 owed, which seems intuitively more correct to me, though I am willing to hear

you out on this one, the ~£410 minus ~£377 expenses (dice, cakes, raffle, drinks), from your version

does not seem accurate to me. To be clear my goal is not to stitch you up; I just want the truth/fair

result so the charity get what they deserve, and at the minute it seems wrong.

I am still awaiting confirmation of some costs, and expect this early next week, once those, (and the

other costs I still want confirmed), are confirmed, then I will report everything back to the community

via TWF as discussed. As previously stated, all expenses I deem unreasonable or not backed up by a

receipt/my memory will not be accepted into the final accounts (these will be provided to you, and

published by me, when I have all the confirmations I require in place and think they give a fair

reflection). I need the receipts for the raffle prizes and BiR Bases, or at the very least to confirm those

at source personally, or those will have to be omitted and will effect the numbers given above/below.

A: I have agreed that the amount of money raised on the weekend should be given to the charity as a

gesture of good faith to the community. The only calculation that should stand is the one that Mel took

on the weekend. I dont know how much was raised individually for the raffle or the dice, or any of the

stuff we sold on the weekend. However, I have been told by the two lads that the majority of people

bought 15 dice (@£10), which would make around £300. I know we hardly sold any of the cupcakes

at all, even at 50p a cupcake. I will be going up to B&Q this week to get a photo of the price for what

we used for the BiR bases, [N: never received] and I am trying to get hold of Terry for a

receipt/confirmation of giving him £100 for the raffle prizes [N: never received]. I also now agree, thatwith hindsight, we over bought for the raffle, which was probably down to enthusiasm of trying to raise

money for HtH, better prizes should mean more tickets sold.

N: It's nothing to do with good faith or gestures - you defrauded the charity of the money is my view -

the reasons you had for that, or whichever way you want to spin it is irrelevant to me - that fact

remains. Who were the raffle prizes bought from - contact details please - I'll need to contact him

anyway to confirm. [N: I called 3 times – no response – it appears he may have gone out of business]

N: By my reckoning of the accounts (so far), you pocketed ~£700 in profits from the event, which

would have paid off all the unpaid debts and left the event with a small profit of ~£150. You kept all of

the money specifically raised for Help for Heroes, which I currently think - based on my own estimates

above - was £436 - plus the £150 profit that makes £586 for Help for Heroes as things stand. The

other debts are Al, Wayne and Dan for tables £50, and £393 + £115.40 = £508.40 to SU. BTW Once I

Page 9: Valhallagate Final Post

8/13/2019 Valhallagate Final Post

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/valhallagate-final-post 9/14

have the accounts completed and checked to my satisfaction, I will send them to you as a final

version fyi - not for discussion - just fyi.  A: I will stand by the fact I did not pocket anything from the event, and I hope that this is not the

terminology that you will use.

N: I'll use whatever terminology I see fit - please don't presume to censor me.

N: Some of this no doubt makes for harsh reading, but I personally believe it to be fair under the

circumstances, not least as you have broken the law twice that I can prove; once in keeping the

charity donations, and once for fraud on the receipt. This has cost me personally considerable time,

effort and heartache, and I blame you for that. I think it's very important that you realise that  I stand

alone in the aggrieved parties in wanting to keep this out of the courts. I have talked the

aggrieved parties in to abiding by my decision on how to handle this, which is broadly as we already

discussed, and will be as follows:

A: I personally stand by the fact that the money raised on the weekend was put in tocover the costs of the weekend, and not 'pocketed' by myself, and, while withhindsight this was the wrong thing to do, this money should be donated,as gesture ofgood will to everyone who was involved with Valhalla in anyway, and the warhammer

community as a whole, to Help the Heroes.N: It was an illegal action, not just the wrong thing to do.

N: 1) You fully admit to all your wrong doings publicly, (this can be e.g. in the form of, "I admit that all

Nick says in his post above is true");

A: I am happy to do this as long as we are in agreement with how it is phrased and put out. Anything

that you are accounting for that is a valuable asset (which you are counting as pens, paper, printers,

etc) needs to be put across, as saying that I have pocketed the money makes me sound like I have

stolen it, which is not the case at all.

N: I will phrase it as I see fit - I absolutely will not submit to your censorship of how I put things relating

to this matter, in any respect. I think you've a cheek to even ask given what I've been through over

this because of you! In retrospect, it was probably a mistake to attempt do this in concert withyourself, as you just want to argue about everything and spin that you didn't do much wrong and limit

the damage to your wallet/reputation. However, I will put the truth as I see it to people. If you then

wish to submit to that, apologize, and make good, great. If not, then I will refer the matter to the police.

N: 2) You apologize fully and unconditionally to me, all the Valhalla entrants, Dan, Wayne and Al

(specifically regarding the tables payment), Help for Heroes, the University of Portsmouth, and the

Portsmouth University Students Union, and specifically the re-enactment society, publicly and

unconditionally via TWF for all and any wrong doings intentional or otherwise, (e.g. "and I hereby

apologize fully and unconditionally to [that lot!] for all wrong doings on my part relating to the Valhalla

event"), and  A: I am happy to apologise for any mistakes, and unintentional wrong doings on mybehalf for Valhalla 2011, although I am anxious to know what is going to happenabout the character assassination and suchlike put out onto twitter and TWF prior toall this.N: I stand by it - you took the money people donated to charity. That is theft from thecharity. Your accoutns do not stand up, and one receipt was fraudulent (most peoplewould have stopped there with this). I'm going to calculate what I think you fairly oweand request that you pay it and prove that you have to me by the end of 2012, and ifyou do that, then this then goes away; if you don't I will refer the matter to the police,(at more considerable waste of my own time).

N: 3) You pay in full all the debts owed, (by my final reckoning of accounts, not yours), by the end of

2012; and furthermore that you provide timely proof of those payments to me personally, preferably in

the form of dated receipts sent electronically to this email address, (which I will double check with the

Page 10: Valhallagate Final Post

8/13/2019 Valhallagate Final Post

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/valhallagate-final-post 10/14

individuals/organisations themselves). I know you were talking about bankruptcy, and I'm sorry to

hear that you are in such financial dire straits, but please understand that that will not constitute an

acceptable excuse for non payment of these debts to me.

A: I am happy to agree on a final amount, as long as it does not take the piss, or has things

accounted for that are being unreasonable. I feel this is only fair that we come to an agreement

between us about this.N: Absolutely not - it will be my version of what is fair and not a mutual agreement, which was

rendered impossible when you attempted to defraud me on the original accounts you submitted;

therefore I can't take on faith what you say, and am forced to decide what is reasonable from an

impartial perspective. Suggesting I would "take the piss" with this is offensive - I'm putting large

amounts of my own time into this and am doing so to decide what I feel is fair. nothing more, nothing

less. Whether you agree with it or not, it will be what it is, and can be no other way in the absence of

verified receipts. I am doing you a favour here with this, so please don't wind me up by arguing about

everything or thinking you still have a say - you don't, that ship sailed long ago. I'm doing my best to

be fair and refuse to enter into any further debate with you on any decisions I make in regard of the

accounts. Again when I finalise everything I will publish it, and for you it'll then be on a take it or leave

it basis at that point - leave it and I will simply refer everything to the police.

N: If you do those 3 things, and act honestly and honourably henceforth in helping me resolve thefinal issues speedily, whilst fully accepting my decisions, (even should you feel them to be wrong),then you will have earned my forgiveness, for what that's worth; and as far as I'm concerned thematter will end there. Unfortunately - and I do hate to have to say this, but given the circumstances Ifeel I have no choice but to warn you that - if those debts are not paid by the end of 2012 I will passon all of the evidence I have assembled to the police, and I will assist them to the fullest of mycapabilities in formal prosecution of yourself for the theft from these charities, (Help for Heroes andPortsmouth University Students Union). I will also accept no excuses whatsoever - end of 2012 fullstop, (and only that long as I know times are hard for you). The charities involved would prefer thepolice/courts route, but I have talked them in to giving you this chance to make amends and clearyour name; and they are willing to abide by my recommendations for resolution as outlined above,(though they have indicated to me that they feel this to be lenient). I think it's also worth you noting,

that if you do pay off all these debts, then there technically will be no offence left to prosecute you forin the eyes of the law, (except for the accounting fraud, which I believe none of the injured parties willcare about at that point). So the path to clearing your name is clear - I sincerely hope you're manenough to take it, and know it won't be easy - if you need my support I will give it to you, because I'mthere for my friends and although this is a fuck up of colossal proportions and I don't appreciatehaving to deal with the fall-out at the expense of my own time/life/family, if you do the right thing fromhere on out I will have a lot of respect for that and will stand by you. I will also ask - though I've noright to expect much on this - and as I already warned you, you should prepare for some sort ofbacklash - that others in the "community" do the same, and respect you for manning up and doing theright thing in the end and give you a shot at redemption before condemning you, (if I were you I wouldget those debts paid asap by any (fair + legal!) means possible and not let it drag on till the end of theyear). I will further ask that the community also respect all of my decisions as outlined above, which Ibelieve they will - after all no-one has been more put out by all this than me, (those owed money

perhaps excepted), and I would be the main person put upon further should it go to court, which Ipersonally think should only be the final resort if you don't take this lifeline I'm offering.  A: I do appreciate the work you have put in over this matter, and being so amenable about it all(after the initial spat). TBH, I just want this to be over, but to have the best outcome for all

concerned parties. I am planning on paying the agreed amount as soon as physically possible, as wehave spoken about on the phone. One thing I would like to do is meet up with you in reference to thedwarves and other figures prior to the statement going out, so we can include that some of the debtshave been paid and sorted.N: Andy bring them to the next tournament and we will sort it there. This will not delay the posting ofthe accounts for this though - I want it off my chest asap.

N: BTW the above will likely constitute something extremely similar to what I post on TWF on

conclusion of this Valhalla accounts review, (assuming of course that nothing else untoward comesup - please God let it not!). I'm not intending to provide documents and files and so forth; if you agree

to co-operate as outlined above, I don't think it serves any purpose. I will provide the original receipt to

a few people who got the incorrect one perhaps, (Ol for example who was vehement in your defence;

I'd suggest a personal apology to him from you BTW), but not for general consumption. So if you are

still in agreement, and want to prepare some sort of reply to this, to post after I post this, then we can

get the public part done hopefully in fairly short order, (I know it'll be painful for you, but like I said be a

man, do the right thing, and most people worth their salt will forgive you and forget about it giventime). I'd suggest keeping the reply very succinct and to the point (along the lines proposed in my 123

above), but clearly up to you. I'd strongly advise against any nit-picking at any elements of this at any

time, and also against anything other than an apologetic attitude to anyone that goes off at you about

this - be repentant (and for goodness sake pay the debts off as soon as I finalize the amounts - you

can start with those already confirmed!), and it'll all blow over eventually. Bollocks - I wanted to build a

model tonight but spent it writing this email instead! Ho hum - yet more grief from this! I respect you

for apologising to me in person on the phone the other day, and appreciate your agreeing to abide by

my means of resolution - thank you for that, and I look forward to this all being behind us.

A: I will speak to Ol about all of this, I see him as a good friend, and do not want him to beout of the loop with all of this. I will be preparing a response, but I hope that you can

streamline the terminology and phrases used within the statement, so not to vilify anybody or

any process/decision that was taken. I am sure we can get through this, and I look forward to buying you a beer at Warlords. BTW, you list is late...

N: I won't be going if I'm penalised for the late list. This shit has taken a lot of my focus away

from TWF so I didn't realise that they were due - if they don't let me off I'm not going. Ol

defended your receipt as legitimate. It wasn't. You should apologize to him for that.

A: Hope everything is well with you and yours,

N: No it isn't, largely because of you and this taking away time I should be spending withthem, and this winding me up so much that I'm not the happy care-free daddy I should be,

when I am with them. Hence respect me this time on the fact that I'm not entering in to any

more debates on any of this, please.Q
