Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated World Information Technology Congress (WITC) 2018 in Hyderabad, Telangana via video conference. The theme of this edition of conference was ‘Future

Enterprises.’ It was hosted by Telangana Government, in association with country’s top IT body, National Association of Software and Services Companies

(NASSCOM) and global IT organization World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA).

Home Ministry organises Watan Ko Janoprogramme

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had recently organized Youth Exchange Programme- WatanKo Jano programme. Under it, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Rajnath

Singh met youth of Jammu and Kashmir in New Delhi. Around 200 youth from state visited different places of country as part of the

Watan Ko Jano The programme is sponsoredjointly by Ministry of Home Affairs, CentralGovernment (Kashmir Cell) and J&K StateRehabilitation Council Social WelfareDepartment. It aims to give exposure to youthand children of J&K about the cultural and socio-economic development taking place in otherparts of country. Youth and children hit bymilitancy and from weaker sections from J&Kare selected for the programme.

Atal Bhujal Yojana: Government formulates ambitious water conservation scheme

The Union Government has formulated ambitious water conservation scheme Atal Bhujal Yojana

(ABY) to tackle ever-deepening crisis of depleting groundwater level. The Rs 6,000-crore will be piloted under the Ministry of

Water Resources, River Development & GangaRejuvenation. It is awaiting cabinet’s clearance.

Atal Bhujal Yojana The objective of scheme is to recharge ground water and

create sufficient water storage for agricultural purposes.It also focuses on revival of surface water bodies so thatground water level can be increased, especially in therural areas. The scheme after Cabinet’s clearance willsoon be launched in water-stressed states: Gujarat,Haryana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh,Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. It will cover 78 districts,193 blocks and more than 8,300 gram panchayats acrossthese states. Centre will support half of the total projectcost and rest of the budgetary cost will be shared by theWorld Bank.

Fiji partners TERI for help in tackling climate change

Fiji (an island nation in South Pacific Ocean) signed a declaration of partnership with

India’s The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) for assistance in tackling climate

change effects and achieving environmental sustainability

Details about partnership between Fiji and TERI: The declaration of partnership was signed on sidelines of the

World Sustainable Development Conference (WSDS 2018) inNew Delhi.

As per the terms of this declaration, TERI will providetechnical assistance to Fiji in a variety of areas includingwaste and pollution management, remote monitoring andreporting of environmental impact assessments, developing‘green’ energy efficient buildings and aligning Fiji’s nationalpolicies with environmental aims.

In context of this news, it is important to note that SouthPacific region is prone to extreme weather conditions likecyclones and floods. Besides, these conditions likely toworsen due to climate change.

Bezos is not just the richest man in world atpresent, but he has become the world’s richestman ever. This record was held by Microsoftfounder Bill Gates with $100 billion in 1999.

Haryana opens four subsidised canteens under Antyodaya Aahaar Yojana

February 18, 2018 The Haryana government has opened subsidised canteens in four districts under the ‘Antyodaya Aahaar Yojana’ to provide healthy,

nutritious and hygienic food at affordable prices to all poor and needy persons. These four districts are

Faridabad, Gurugram, Hisar and Yamunanagar. The state government is planning to establish a total of 23

such canteens, one each at district headquarter.

These subsidised canteens will serve food toregistered construction workers and all otherpoor and needy persons at Rs. 10. Each foodpacket will weigh 730 grams and shall contain1150 calories will have four chapattis, rice, dal,cooked seasonal vegetables, curd or raita, greenchutney and gur. Each food packet would costRs 20 out of which Rs 10 would be shared byLabour Department.

Antyodaya Aahaar Yojana

The scheme was launched on the occasionof the Republic Day celebrations inPanchkula, Haryana. Its objective is toprovide good quality of healthy andnutritious food at affordable lower costs topoor, homeless people who are officiallydesignated to be below the poverty line(BPL status).
