CONNECTION DESIGNVAF is manufactured in conformance with theAPI 5CT standard, the voestalpine Tubulars proprietary standard and special customer requirements. The connection design is tested according to ISO13679:2002/API5C5, CAL II.
HOOKED THREAD FORMThe negative load flank of 5° (hooked thread profile) provides protection against thread jump out under tension, while the 30° stabbingflank guarantees fast, trouble free make-up.
POSITIVE MAKE-UP STOPThe external shoulder provides a positive make-up torque stop and allows visual confirmation of proper make-up.
TRUE FLUSH PREMIUM CONNECTIONWithout any outside diameter upset, VAF is the perfect solution for slim hole designs, workover strings, liners and tiebacks.
METAL TO METAL SEALIt is an integral connection with a metal to metal seal which ensures gas tightness. The internal diameter design increases the metal seal’s robustness for gas tightness.
SMOOTH INTERNAL AND EXTERNALPROFILEVAF is threaded on plain end pipe with a connection outside diameter of the same size as the pipe outside diameter. The smooth internal profile minimizes turbulences and also provides good conditions for internal coating.

RECOMMENDED OPTIMUM MAKE-UP TORQUE FOR REGULAR COUPLINGS

RUNNING PROCEDUREClean and dry the connection. Visually in-spect the seal area and shoulder for da-mage. Repair is only permissible as shownin the detailed running procedure. Applya thin film of thread compound to thethreads including the seal area.
For stabbing use a stabbing guide andstart make-up by hand before using themake-up tong. Once the torque increasesshift to low gear (max. 5 rpm) until finaltorque is reached.
