& SCHOOL COMMUNITIES

COVID-PUB-ESC-EN

The COVID-19 pandemic has been tough. But Pennsylvanians have proven that together, we are tougher.

We’ve had many victories against the virus, but we’re not done yet. Now is the time for Pennsylvanians to

get their COVID-19 vaccines.

COVID-19 vaccines are new, and many in our community have questions. And that’s a good thing. There is

so much information—and misinformation—out there about vaccines. It can be overwhelming and difficult

to find unbiased facts.

That’s why we’ve created this Vaccine Outreach Toolkit for Educators & School Communities. Good

information leads to good decisions. This toolkit provides information you can use to encourage others to

get their COVID-19 vaccine, including:

• Key facts about COVID-19 vaccines

• Short content & posters

• Social media graphics and sample posts

• Additional outreach materials are available for download or print order under Community Resources

on PA.GOV/COVID

As trusted leaders of your community, your voice matters. In Pennsylvania, we have millions of friends,

family members, and neighbors who are unvaccinated. The conversation and what they learn from you

could be the deciding factor that convinces them to get their COVID-19 vaccine.

You have the power to finish this. Together, we can defeat COVID.

Sincerely,

Dr. Denise Johnson Physician General of Pennsylvania

& Disinformation.

You have the power to finish this. • COVID-19 can have serious, life-threatening complications. There is no way to know how COVID-19 will

affect you. And if you get sick, you could spread the disease to family, friends, and others around you.

• Some people may even test positive for COVID but have no symptoms. But you can still spread the virus to others even if you feel fine.

• Vaccines can help end the pandemic. Medical studies show that vaccines can prevent COVID-19 and keep you from getting seriously ill even if you do get it.

• Stopping a pandemic requires using all the tools available.

• Now is the time to get your vaccine.

COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective. • Vaccines help our bodies develop immunity to a specific virus, without us having to get the actual illness.

• COVID-19 vaccines help us to develop immunity to the virus that causes COVID-19.

o They provide protection against severe disease, hospitalization, and death.

o They are nearly 100% effective at preventing infections in children.

• COVID-19 vaccines are as safe as most over-the-counter medications.

• COVID-19 vaccines are the best way to protect against the virus – including against new variants.

COVID-19 vaccines are recommended for everyone 12 and older.

• Children 12+ are eligible to receive the Pfizer vaccine.

• Children 16+ are eligible to receive the Moderna vaccine.

• We expect to see younger children become eligible to receive COVID-19 vaccines soon.

Learn about COVID-19 vaccines from trusted sources. • COVID-19 vaccines are new, and it’s normal to have questions about something new.

• Talk to your pediatrician if you have questions or concerns about getting your kids vaccinated.

• You can also do more reading and research at:

o PA Unites Against COVID

o PA Department of Health (DOH)

o Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)

o U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)

Finding a vaccine is easy. • Many vaccine providers now take walk-ins and offer same-day appointments.

• You can find a vaccine provider near you:

o Online – go to Vaccine Finder and search by zip code.

o Text – send your zip code to GETVAX (438829) for English, or VACUNA (822862) for Spanish and receive three possible vaccination sites in your area, with phone numbers to call for an appointment.

o Phone – if you need help or do not have internet access, call the PA Department of Health Hotline at 1-877-724-3258.

• If you are unable to leave home, or it is logistically impractical, contact your local Area Agency on Aging (AAA) to get help connecting with a provider who can come to you.

Tips for Social Media • DON’T forget to monitor. You should be monitoring your channels for comments or questions about

COVID-19 vaccines.

• DO reshare content. Social media is all about community, so reshare and engage with content of others that is relevant to your audience or the COVID-19 vaccines.

• DON’T engage with haters, trolls, and other negative influences online. Battling them is – and will always be – a lost cause. Don’t waste your time or energy.
