gImportant InformationSafety Information CAUTION Before you set up and operate your V 212x, read and follow the safety informa-

tion in your V 212x manual.

WarningsThere is a certain hierarchy of warnings in this guide. The warnings are printed in bold letters and marked by a warning sign at the margin. In the following the warnings are described in detail:

WARNING The term WARNING will be used wherever danger is imminent. The possible consequences may be death or severe injury (personal injury).

CAUTION The term CAUTION will be used wherever a dangerous situation is possi-ble. The possible consequences include death, severe or light injury (personal injury) damage to property (destruction of modules) or environmental hazards (fire damage). In any case, the failure to observe these instructions will result in the loss of guaranty.

NOTE The term NOTE will be used for marking recommendations on the use. These sections contain additional information, recommendations, hints and tips. Non-compliance with these recommendations may result in damage to property, e.g. to the system or the software.

IntroductionIntention

This quick start guide is intended for providing the minimum information neces-sary to install the 19” VADIS frame V 212x. For more detailed information, refer to the V 212x manual. The term V 212x includes the following models:

Model FeaturesV 212 Fanless, 8 GPI I/Os, to be controlled externally, optional redundant PSU V 212CA Fanless, 8 GPI I/Os, integrated AEON controller incl. CMI interface, optional redundant PSU V 212CV Fanless, 8 GPI I/Os, integrated VARIZONE controller incl. CMI interface, optional redundant PSU V 212C HDD Fanless, 8 GPI I/Os, integrated HDD controller incl. CMI interface, optional redundant PSU

How to Read • In this guide, the following designations are used:

- “Quotation marks“ indicate terms which are used on the VADIS GUI, on the V 212x surface and in MS Windows©. Sole exception: headings.

- Italics are used for accentuations• In this guide the following abbreviations are used:

gMountingUnpackingOpen Cardboard Box

The V 212x frames are shipped in cardboard boxes lined with Styrofoam parts.

CAUTION • Avoid heavy vibrations and do not reach deep inside the box with your tools, e.g. a knife or box cutter.

• Open the cardboard box at the top side.

Lift Out CAUTION Consider the weight of a V 212x frame when lifting it out of the cardboard box.

Depending on the equipment, the weight of the VADIS V 212x can be up to 14 kg.

Check Scope of Delivery• Make sure, that you have all the parts listed in the delivery note. • If parts are missing or are obviously defective, immediately contact the

freight forwarder as well as at your local KLOTZ DIGITAL subsidiary.

Check Interior Check if the V 212x frame's plug-in modules are properly inserted and fixed with 2 or 4 screws, depending on the type of module.

Environment CAUTION • In order to avoid overheating, the ambient temperature on top of the V 212x

cabinet must not exceed 40 °C / 104 °F!• The maximum environmental humidity must not exceed 85%!• If you intend to install more than 1 frame per rack, take into consideration

that the ambient temperature will probably rise with every additional frame. If necessary, appropriate measures must be taken against overheating.

Rack Properties CAUTION • It is strongly recommend to mount the V 212x in a 19” rack.

• The 19’’ rack must be properly grounded in compliance with IEC safety stan-dards and the regulations of the country it is being used in.

• The rack must show sufficient stability to carry a V 212x frame *). • Telescope or slide rails of sufficient load-carrying capacity must be fitted in

order to support the frame *).• The rack must be of sufficient depth to cover 100% of the frame depth on the

telescope or slide rails *).• Simple service and operation of the V 212x frame is only possible if there is

free access to the front and back side of the rack.*) The weights and measures of the V 212x can be found under Weights

and Measures.

Cable Types NOTE!

In this guide, the terms "screened twisted pair cable" and "shielded twisted pair cable" are used as follows:

Term MeaningScreened twisted pair cable

The individual pairs of conductors are not shielded. All pairs of conductors are provided with one overall screen or metal foil.

Shielded twisted pair cable

Each pair of conductors is individually shielded. An overall screen is not necessary.

The following tables indicate the cable types required for wiring a V 212x.

lingCMI AEON Connector, V 212CA/C HDD/CV only

CAUTION The CMI cable suitable for the CMI AEON connector is a special purpose cable, combining an eight-wire cable and a 15-pin connector. Using a cable or exten-sion cable with an improper pin / wire assignment may cause the AEON to mal-function.It is strongly recommended to use the genuine CMI cable for the CMI AEON connector, only. The cable is included in the AEON delivery. Please obtain the optional AEON extension kit A EK, if the genuine CMI cable is too short for your purposes.
