The design team consists of David Dagault, Luc Armant, Fred Pieri, Russell Ogden, Honorin Hamard andSamJobard.Davstartedflyingwhenhewas12yearsoldandhasaccumulatedawealthofexperience incompetitionflying,XCandparagliderdesign.Luc,adedicatedXCandcompetitionaddicthasabackgroundinnavalarchitecture.Fred,ourresidentgeekisamathematician,mechanicalengineerandvolBivspecialist.Russisacompetitionpilotandtestpilotwith1000sofhourstestingexperience.WorldandEuropeanchampionHonorinisanaturallytalentedpilotwhohasbeenflyingsincehewas13yearsold.Samdesignsanddevelopsourrangeofharnesses,hehasagreatdealofexperiencebothflyingparaglidersanddesigningharnesses.Betweenthem,theybringawealthofknowledge,ideasandexperienceandworkcloselytogetherinthedesign,developmentandtestingprocess.

EveryoneneedsanAngel…Representingthetraditionalandprovenpulleddownapexrounddesign,theAngelisaparachuteyoucanrelyon.

TheAngelhasarelativelylargesurfacearea,yetisverylightinweight,givingexceptionalsinkrateandstabilityperformancewithfastopeningtimes.Thelargesurfaceareaensuresanexcellentsinkrate,allsizesoftheAngelprovideplentyofmarginwithintheweightrangestheyarecertifiedtocarry.

TheAngelusespremiumqualitymaterialschosenfortheiroptimumbalanceofdurability,performance,minimalpackingvolumesandlowweighttoensurereliable,safedeployments,eveninthemostextremesituations.

CertifiedENandLTFtotheEN12491andLTF91/09standards,theAngelisavailablewithmaximumloadsfrom90kgsto140kgs.Thereare2bridleoptions:TheshortbridleversionforharnesseswithintegratedbridlesandtheYbridleversionforharnesseswithnobuiltinbridles.

Thev2versionsharesexactlythesamedesignastheoriginalbutwithmaterialchangesandotherminordetailmodificationstomakethepackingprocesseasier.

TheAngelhasbeensolelydesignedforuseasanemergencyrescuesystemforparagliders.Donotunderanycircumstancesusethisparachuteforfreefallparachuting,BASEjumpingorwithanyothertypeofaircraft.TheAngelisnotsuitableforspeedsinexcessof32m/sor115kmh.

TheAngelisavailablewith2bridleoptions:ShortbridleorYbridle.

Theshortbridleoptionisforharnessesthatalreadyhavereservebridlesinplace.AttachtheparachutebridletotheharnessbridlesusingaMaillonRapide7mmscrewgatemaillonorsimilar.

ThelongYbridleoptionisforharnessesthatdonothavebridlesalreadyinstalled.Theattachmentpointsshouldbeattacheddirectlytotheshoulderconnectionpointsusing2x6mmscrewgatestainlesssteelmaillons(oneforeachside)alongwithrubberbandsortapetosecurethebridlesneatly.YoumustNOTattachalongYbridletoanyexistingharnessbridles.Ifyourharnessalreadyhasbridlesattachedtotheshoulderhangpoints,youMUSTusetheshortbridleoption.OnlyattachtheYbridletotheloopslocatedontopoftheshoulderstrapswhichhavebeenspecificallydesignedformountingtherescuesystem.

Maillonsmustbeclosedtightly-fingertightthen1/2aturnwithpliersissufficient.Donotovertighten.

Attachthereservehandletooneoftheloopsonthedeploymentbagusingasmallmaillonoralarksfootknot.Pleaserefertoyourharnessmanualtoensurethecorrectorientation.

TheAngelisnowreadytobeinstalledintothedeploymentsystemofyourharness.FordetailedinstructionsoffittingtheAngelintothedeploymentsystempleaseconsultyourharnessmanual.

IMPORTANT:You MUST NOT attach the long Y bridle to existing harness bridle(s), if this is the case, you must use the short bridle option.

Ifyouareintheunfortunatesituationofneedingtothrowyourreserve,dosowithconviction:

Look;Reach;Pull;Throw.

Lookatthehandle,grabitandpullouttheretainingpinswithsufficientforce.

Pullout thedeploymentbag.Youneedtoadaptthewayyoupullyourparachutedependingonthedesignofyourharness’sdeploymentsystem.e.g.underseatpositioningoftenrequiresanactiontotheoutsidesothattheparachuteextracts sideways from thepocket,pulling thehandleupwardswill not allow theparachute to release.Knowyourequipmentandadaptyourtechniqueaccordingly.

Throwtheparachuteawayfromyouashardasyoucanintoclearspace,nottowardsyourwing.ItisimportantatthisstagetoremembertoLETGOofthehandle.Aimtothrowwiththedirectionofairflowtoaidafastopeningandagainstthedirectionofrotation.

Ifafter throwingtheparachutedoesnotdeploy (possible in lowenergyemergenciese.g.parachutalstall),grabthereservebridleandgiveitastrongpull.Thiswillhelpencouragetheparachutetoopenfaster.

Astheparachutedeploys,thenextstageistoconcentrateondisablingtheparaglider.Thereareseveralwaystodothis–Blinestall;rearriserstall;gatheringthecanopybyworkinguptheAlinesuntilyouhavethematerialinyourhandsorusingthebrakestostallthewing.Thebesttechniquedependsentirelyonthesituation.Themostimportantthingtorememberistocompletelydisablethewingsothatitdoesnotactagainsttheparachuteandcauseadown-plane.Whichevermethodyouchoosedososymmetrically,youdonotwanttheparaglidertostartrotating,thiscouldcausetheparaglidertoflyintoandeffectivelydisabletheparachute.

Due to the position of the reserve bridle hang points onmost harness, deploying the reserve parachute tends toautomaticallyputyouintothePLFposition(legsdown),ifyouarenot,doeverythingyoucantogetyourselfintothispositionsoyoucanabsorbthelandingimpactwithyourlegs.

AlwaysuseaPLFwhenlandingunderemergencysituationsorunderarescueparachute.

NOTE: The following example shows the Angel v1 140 with 20 gores being repacked. The 90/95 and 110 have 18 gores therefore the indicated numbers will be different. v2 Angels only have the centre panel numbered.

Yourparachuteshouldberepacked every 6 months,preferablybyaqualifiedprofessionaltoensurebestoperationandtogiveyoupeaceofmind.Whenremovingtheparachutefromtheharnesstaketheopportunitytocompleteapracticedeployment.Checkthatyoucanreachyourhandleeasilyandthattheparachutecanexittheharnesssmoothly,freeofanyresistance,Certificationrequiresaneffortoflessthan7kgs.

Beforerepacking,theparachuteshouldhaveathoroughvisualcheckofthecloth,linesandbridles.Donotuseaparachutewithanysignofvisibledamage.Theparachutemustbecompletelydryandfreeofdirt,dustoranyothercontaminates.

Packing ProcedureCompletelyunfurltheparachute,ideallyitshouldbehungovernighttoreleasethefoldsandtoairthematerial.

Toeasethepackingprocessitisbesttoworkwithanassistantandhavethefollowingpiecesofequipment:weightssuchassandbags;linespacers;carabiners;spareelasticbands.

Laytheparachuteonapackingtableorontheground.Makesurethesurfaceiscleananddry.

Pull out the apex completely and pull all of the lines and panels undertensionsothattherearenomajorfoldsinthecanopy.Attachtheapextosomethingsolidusingacarabinerandcheckthatthelinesattheapexareofequallengths.

Place the deployment bag under the skirt and foldtheparachuteinanaccordionfashiontothesizeandshapeofthedeploymentbag.

Before closing the pod, we recommend to turn theparachute over so that the skirt is uppermost andclosest to the clover leaves. Close the deploymentbagaroundtheparachute,neatentheedgestoensurethattheparachuteiscontainedcompletelywithin.Usetheremainingfreelinetosecurethemainloopofthedeploymentbag.

Yourparchuteisrelativelymaintenance-free,howeverthereareseveralpracticesthatneedtobeadheredto:

•KeepyourparachutefreefromexposuretoUV,moisture,dirt,dust,chemicalsoranyothercontaminates.

•Alwaysstoreallofyourflyingequipmentinacooldryroomandprotectitfromdirectheatsuchasradiatorsorsunlight.

•Moisture,heatandhumidityaretheworstelementsfordamagingyourparachute.

•Yourparachuteshouldbere-packed,preferablybyaqualifiedpackerevery6months.Themoreoftenthereserveisrepackedthebetterthechancesofitopeningquickly.

•Line lengthsshouldbecheckedannuallybyaqualifiedchecker,orafteranytime theparachutehasbeenexposedtoexcessivemoistureorhasbecomewetafterawaterlanding.

• Ifyoulandinsaltwater,youmustimmediatelyrinsetheparachuteandlinesthoroughlywithfreshwaterbeforeit isallowedtodry. It isofvital importancetoremoveall tracesofsaltbeforedryingotherwisepermanentdamagemayoccur.Itmaytakeseveralrinsestocompletelyremovealltracesofsalt.Ifthereareanyvisiblesignsofdamagetotheclothorevidenceofsaltcrystals,theparachuteshouldbedeemedun-airworthyandwithdrawnfromservice.

•Completelyairdryyourparachuteoutofsunlightorothersourcesofdirectheat.Failuretodosocanresultinunevendryingofclothandlines.Yourparachutemustbeabsolutelydrybeforerepacking.

•Theparachuteshouldbedecommissionedafter10years,evenifithasneverbeenthrown.

•The parachute should be disposed of in an environmentally friendlymanner.Do not disposewith normalhouseholdwaste.

WARNING: After a salt water landing, if there are any visible signs of damage to the cloth or evidence of salt crystals, the parachute should be deemed un-airworthy and withdrawn from service.

WARNING: The parachute should be decommissioned after 10 years from the date of purchase even if it has never been thrown.
