Welcome to Stag Meadow
Good afternoon everyone and welcome to Stag Meadow for our final homepre-season friendly match.
Today we welcome our visitors Kings Langley FC of the Southern LeaguePremier Division Central, and trust supporters, players and officials have hada decent journey down to the Royal Borough.
That warm welcome is extended to our match day officials and again we hopeyou enjoy your very brief stay with us in The Great Park.
Close season and pre-season has seen changes to our playing squad andwhilst it still is not possible to publish a full and complete playing list we canconfirm that both Hugo Sobte and Jamie Di Giuseppe have moved on.
Hugo has stepped up a division and will be playing for Hanwell Town of theIsthmian League South Central Division (that Division houses Bracknell,Bedfont, Ashford & Chertsey to name a few).
Jamie has signed on for Combined Counties League side Molesey FC and willcome up against the likes of Ascot United (transferred from the HLP), EghamTown (Relegated) and everyone’s favourite Tuesday night away day, RaynesPark Vale.
We wish both players the very best of luck in their new ventures and hopeboth stay fit and healthy and progress further up the football pyramid.
The HLP fixtures were released earlier this week and it must be stressed thatthey are still SUBJECT TO CHANGE. There are lots of TBC gaps and both DanBirchmore and Alan King are working very hard with the HLP to put a listtogether that can be as definite as possible. Please be patient. We’ll keep thelist in the programme as up to date as possible.
Next Saturday we do make the longest of all of our HLP matches when wetake on Westfields (of Hereford). Away Day information can be found in thisprogramme. After that it’s back on the road and the slightly shorter trip overto Binfield.
Enjoy the game Matt
From the BenchHi everyone, the new season is almost upon us, and with the announcement of thefixtures it’s time we set about trying to improve on last season.
Players come and go for all sorts of different reasons and I wish them all the verybest of luck at their respective clubs, with the departure of Hugo, Jamie and Roboit does leave us with some holes to fill. Sonny is with us for the season as our GKand we are very happy to have him with us, we do need to strengthen at left backbut Aaron has stepped into that position for preseason and is finding his feet.
Obviously goals win you games and trying to find a consistent and natural scorer isgoing to be difficult but the challenge for us all is to find different ways to put theball into the back of the net, Jack Gibson will be playing a huge part in ourattacking options this season and I like to think that he could have the sameimpact as Robo.
We started back on the 2nd July and slowly but surely the boys have improved ontheir fitness levels and also started to understand how we want to play in terms ofshape etc., defensively we had a lot to get right against Hayes and Yeading andwhilst we managed that area well enough, it did leave us short up top! TheHolyport game was always going to be an honest and tough game, we never reallygot going on the night and lost every single individual battle but I half expected itto be fair!
The Wantage game was a good run out for us, a few goals scored and the boyshad a better feel about themselves, I felt that we dominated the game and I wasparticularly pleased with our second half performance.
The Bracknell game was a chance to meet up with old friends and pit our witsagainst a very strong team, overall I thought we acquitted ourselves well enoughand should only be focusing on the positives.
We do need to retain the ball better in certain areas and make better decisionswhen we start to move forward and certainly in the second half we achieved thatand started to have success which resulted in Ted finishing of a decent move fromus, on reflection, the boys reacted positively to going a goal down and for half anhour we looked settled and comfortable and the first 20 minutes of the second halfwas probably our best spell.
As it stands I am very satisfied with how things are going but everyone is awarethat they is still plenty to improve on.
Enjoy the game, Thanks Mick
On the RoadThe 2019/20 season sees three new teams in the HLP. We’ve got a nice localtrip to Burnham to look forward to. A relatively painless run up the M40 totake on Easington and the longest journey we’ll make this season in theleague, when we travel to Westfields. In total we will travel 2144 miles to ouraway fixtures and back to Stag Meadow.

Hot Dog Nutty Fritters.
Carlos CooksAnother culinary delight brought to you by Carl “Carlos” Jackson. Following onfrom his Swedish Sandwich, Carlos’ next treat is a play on an Americanclassic;
“Hot Dog Nutty Fritters”
One tin of large hotdogs needed. I usually buy the American branded ones butTesco Blue Stripe are just as good.
Butterfly the hotdog(s), fill the opening with peanut butter, wrap in bacon andgrill for six minutes or until the smoke alarm sounds.
Lay the nutty dog into a seeded hot dog roll.
How do you make the Hot Dog Salad Dressing I hear?
Well, it’s meant to be for six servings but one person can polish it off if youare hungry. Grind seven boiled hot dogs with half a teaspoon of dry mustard, two tablespoons milk, one tablespoon of relish (or tomato sauce) and third ofa cup of mayonnaise. Blend together and pile onto a couple of lettuce leaves.Add a grind of pepper and present on your finest Ikea dinner plate.
Enjoy!
Whilst every effort is made to ensure the recipe is fit for human consumption, the Football Club and Carlos cannot be held responsible for any illness of allergic reactions.
Ale Trail
Crate Brewery Session IPA: A lovely strong hop bitterness, with hints ofcitrus peel & sweet biscuit malts. Very traditional style but well worth a try!
Another round of Cookie & H’s Ale Trail. Both highly experienced men worktheir way through the mainstream, micro and national brewery ales, lagersand ciders in search of perfection. This week we have;
Atom Quantum State: Hazy pale straw coloured with a thin white head offoam. It has a sweet floral fruity flavour with citrus and tropical notes on thesmooth finish.
Atom Schrodingers Cat: Light sweet flavor with mellow piney hops, bread,Orange peel zest, Light bodied with average carbonation. Light bitter finish, toasty grains, Solid all rounder.
Brooklyn Defender IPA: Golden colour with orange tinge, white foamy headleaving lacing and aroma of tropical fruits, citrus, hoppy. Taste is malt, caramel, with fruity citrus, grapefruit, pine and hop resiny bitterness. Mediumbodied, soft carbonation, dry tangy bitter finish. Quite drinkable.
Snake Dog IPA: Taste of floral/citrus hops balanced with a malty backbone.Prominent herbal notes, which I particularly enjoyed. Mild to moderate bitterfinish. A little thin for the 7.1% ABV. Slightly underwhelming, I guess Iexpected more. Perfectly nice and drinkable though.
Please drink responsibly…but if you can’t, drink irresponsibly and enjoy it with friends!

Truro City legend Stewart Yettonreturns
As they prepare for life in Step 3 following their relegation from NationalLeague South, Truro City have welcomed back a familiar face by signing all-time leading goalscorer Stewart Yetton has returned in the role ofplayer/assistant manager.
Yetton is something of a club legend at Treyew Road, having scored a record219 goals for the White Tigers during eight years with the Cornish club.
The 33-year-old frontman most recently played for Tiverton Town but is alsoheld in high regard at Weymouth, for whom he made well over 100 first teamappearances.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Truro boss Paul Wotton said, “I amthrilled with the signing of Yetts.
“He’s obviously a total legend at Truro.
“His knowledge of the league and the players will be invaluable to me goingforward. He sets the right example in training, is very, very fit and is one ofthe best centre-forwards at this level.
“More importantly, he has been a trusted friend for over 20 years and I can’twait for us to start working together.”
Truro have undergone somewhat of a chaotic summer after former boss PaulWilkinson, who had just weeks earlier signed a new deal, left to move into theEFL with Bury.
However, the quick appointment of Wotton appears to have steadied the shipat Treyew Road.

Club HistoryKings Langley Football Club was founded in 1886, with the village doctor,Frederick Fisher, as its first Chairman. Founder members of the West HertsLeague in the 1891–92 season, Kings Langley also won the St. Mary's Cup infront of 3,500 people at the Watford Recreation Ground that season, retainingit the next year and losing the final on a replay the year after that. Earlygrounds included Groomes Meadow, Blackwell Meadow, and Kings LangleyCommon, and although it has been stated that the club did not settle at HomePark until 1913, the ground is known to have hosted an 1898–99 matchagainst Hemel Hempstead Town in front of 300 spectators.
After slipping down the divisions, Kings Langley's first league honour came in1911–12, winning the West Herts Division 3 Championship, followed by theDivision 2 Championship in 1919–20. The following two seasons saw anuncomfortable time in the Herts County League, before returning to the WestHerts Division 1 in 1922–23. A similar drop down the divisions led to the clubfolding in February 1930, only to be reformed four months later, with aDivision 2 Championship and Webster Cup triumph at the end of the firstseason. The return to the top flight lasted only two seasons, but two yearslater Kings Langley topped Division 2 for their fourth divisional title.
1934 saw a new pavilion built on Home Park, opened by future FIFA presidentSir Stanley Rous. With the Herts County League undergoing reformation,Langley took the radical step of joining the Southern Olympian League, takingthe second and first division titles in successive years and spending twoseasons in the Premier until the outbreak of the Second World War.
A 1939 application to play in the FA Cup was accepted prior to the 1945–46edition, leaving Kings Langley just four weeks to put a team together. Theclub succeeded, making it to the first qualifying round before getting knockedout. When league football resumed the following year, Kings foundthemselves back in the Herts County League, gaining promotion from DivisionTwo that year. In the five seasons that followed, Kings Langley won the FirstDivision title twice, came runners-up twice, and won the St. Mary's Cup aftera 58-year gap.
Kings Langley regularly competed in the FA Amateur Cup, and in September1949 they entertained the famous amateurs of Corinthian Casuals, a matchthat generated significant local interest. A crowd of over 500 watched asCorinthians ran out 3–1 winners.
www.kingslangleyfc.co.uk
Kings LangleyThree successful seasons in the Parthenon League followed, but travellingexpenses were high, so in 1955–56 the club returned to the Herts CountyLeague and would remain there for the next 45 years. Gradual improvementled to back-to-back Premier League titles in 1965–66 and 1966–67, plus aHerts Charity Shield triumph in the latter year, and the Aubrey Cup in 1967–68. This was perhaps the "golden period" of the club's history, and althoughthe club won the St. Mary's Cup again in 1971–72, relegation followed a yearlater. The club began yo-yoing between Division One and the Premier League, before another promotion was overshadowed by the loss of Home Park toredevelopment in 1980. A nomadic existence followed, the club playing atOxhey, Rolls Royce & Buncefield Lane, and finally the Leavesden hospitalground.
In March 1997, Kings Langley finally gained a new permanent home onHempstead Road. The reformation of the club's youth team in 1989 helpedplay a part in this, as junior and senior supporters joined forces to help obtainthe land, lay the pitches, and build a pavilion. Sponsors of the projectincluded the National Lottery, the Hertfordshire FA, Dacorum Borough Council,Kings Langley Parish Council, and Graham Gaywood, a well-known benefactorof the club who died soon after the stadium's completion. The ground isnamed Gaywood Park in his honour.
However, the new home did not bring an immediate turnabout in results anddespite winning the Rickmansworth Charity Cup, Langley were embroiled inrelegation battles for the next two seasons. The club's form improved at theturn of the Millennium, finishing fourth in 1999–2000 before losing the titlerace on goal difference in 2000–01, and the decision was taken to apply for ahigher level of football. The club was accepted to the Spartan South MidlandsLeague at Division One level, and while the club held its own with three mid-table finishes, the club's finances were drained in order to upgrade thestadium to league standards, and the club were relegated in 2003–04.
Kings Langley's first season in the lower tier was disappointing, and SteveHeath was appointed manager for the next campaign. A sixth-place in 2005–06 was followed by a runners-up spot the next season, but ground standardswere still an issue and promotion was denied. 2007–08 saw a magnificenttreble success of League, Division 2 Cup, and the retention of the HertsIntermediate Cup;
KLFCofficial
Kings LangleyKings Langley were unbeaten in all competitions from September 2007 untilOctober 2008, an incredible run of 47 consecutive matches. In the meantime, the club continued to upgrade their facilities to the required standard, a taskcompleted by the start of the 2009–10 season, by which time Heath hadmoved on.
He was succeeded by the experienced Paul Hobbs, who took a new young sideto an encouraging 7th-placed finish, as well as the semi-finals of the Herts FASenior Centenary Cup and the quarter finals of both the Challenge Trophy andDivision One Cup. 2010–11 saw his emerging side further improve to third, narrowly missing out on promotion as the club celebrated its 125thanniversary.
Kings Langley won the Premier Division at the first attempt in 2014–15,earning back-to-back promotions to the Southern Football League. They thenwent on to win the Southern League Division One Central the followingseason, pipping Egham Town and Royston Town to the title in the final gameof the season. After three successive promotions, Kings Langley played in theSouthern Premier Division for the first time in their history in 2016–17.
The 2017–18 close season saw a number of changes with long-term chairmanDerry Edgar stepping down to become Football Secretary and Jeremy Wilkinsbecoming Chairman. Also, a new under 18s team were founded, with youthcoach Alan Beeton taking the helm as manager.
The 2017-2018 season started poorly for Kings Langley and Paul Hobbs wasreplaced as manager in December 2017 by Steve Conroy. Steve ensured thatrelegation was avoided, finishing 21st and then went on the following seasonto lead the Club to its highest ever finish of 6th place in Southern LeaguePremier Division South, narrowly missing out on a play-off position.
Chairman Jeremy Wilkins, although still active in the Club, stepped down inthe summer of 2019 and Danny Perman was appointed in his place. In May2019 Steve Conroy left the club to join Walton Casuals FC, stating that hisambitions were different to the Club, and he was replaced by Dean Barker(previously Welwyn Garden City manager) in June 2019.
