The Adopt a Phone Box process has now been completed. We plan to use the space
village and visitors. We are asking for volunteers to help us refurbish the space. So
if you fancy a spot of DIY, can put up a few shelves or help us in anyway please do
get in touch.
We have a new Parish Councillor. We’d like to welcome Geo" Sanders to the Parish
Council. Having lived in the village for 20 years Geo" has seen many changes and
takes a keen interest in the social well-being and progression of our Parish.
Speeding through the village. We mentioned in the last newsletter that the Parish
courage safer road use. We are now looking at plans to provide three pairs of white
gates in the village. The gates make it obvious that motorists are entering a village
with residential properties and are proven to be effective in reducing speed.

Council are unable to take forward any issues, concerns or ideas before a public

Christmas The not so quick six Quiz !
1. Just how many gifts did my true love bring?
2. Who was Pauntley’s famous son ?
3. Broadway has its namesake over the pond but what defines a Broadway
Theatre?
4. Whereabouts would you find Wicuene?
5. What was known as frumenty?
6. And mumming?
DID YOU KNOW!
Boar’s head was the main dish for medieval noblemen to have on the
table, served decked with rosemary and with an apple or orange in its
mouth. The French calendar dated between 1413 - 1416, ‘Les très riches
heures du Duc de Berry’, shows a boar hunting scene for December. The
boar was the enemy of farmers as it would trample crops, but there is a
legend that man learnt to plough by watching a boar root with his tusks in
the ground, then realising how fertile that patch of ground became. A
boar’s head carol sung at St John’s College, Oxford, bemoans the damage
done to crops by the boar. Later on the boar’s head was replaced by a
gilded peacock as the dish to serve at Christmas.

STRICTLY RETURNS TO CHILDSWICKHAM
To all that may be interested. I am going to start the Strictly Ballroom and Latin dancing practice/social club again in the Village Hall. I expect to charge £4 per head. All surplus funds will be donated to a bell maintenance fund. The bell team are hoping to raise funds for new ropes and bell maintenance thus avoiding requesting money from the church and making ourselves financially self sufficient. I plan to do this every 3rd Sunday in the month between 7:30 and 9:30 commencing November. Tea/coffee and homemade cakes will be provided during the evening/break period by Karen Tibbets (I hope she knows lol. You can thank Tony for this kind offer Karen). All levels are welcome including complete novices. I can give some very basic tuition on the basic/beginner moves. We will warm up and down with a bit of Salsa. If interested please
contact me on 853532 or 07946 603 224 for further details/express any
interest. Please pass the word around.

HARVEST FESTIVAL. CHILDSWICKHAM.
Willersey Willersey C of E Primary School The first half term of the new school year has been action packed as always. The children in class 1 have enjoyed their forest school learning activities for the first half term. They have taken part in bug hunting, using magnifying glasses, studying the habitat using binoculars, listening for birds and mud painting! This is a valuable learning experience, using the wonderful local environ-ment in the village. The class 2 children produced a ‘play in a day’ at the beginning of term, focussing on mindfulness and issues around mental health and wellbeing. This was led by a drama teacher from Konflux theatre and the children produced a wonderful drama presentation after only a few hours of intensive work. They have also been learning about the United States of America as part of the ‘America’ topic. This has included studying the American election procedures as well as a carrying out a vote – all very topical! Our Bishops Visitor Sue Padfield visited the school at the beginning of term and commented on the busy classrooms and the displays as well as the enthusiasm and commitment of the children. She joined us for the first main worship of the school year focussing on the value of ‘Generosity.’ Our Floorball team have been in action with matches against a variety of local schools. This is a ‘transition year’ in terms of new players, but all are determined players with a real willingness to take part and improve their skills. We have been training for the first cross-country event of the year with some running around the Recre-ation Ground in the village, learning how to pace yourself when running a longer distance as well as how to warm up before the race and cool down afterwards. We are developing our school as a ‘Maths loving school’ to ensure that children really enjoy the challeng-es and wonder of maths. There have been lots of activities inside and outside the classroom with the aim of really getting to grips with all the understanding of numbers (including some very large numbers) to help with solving tricky and challenging problems coming up shortly. Our after-school clubs have begun with good numbers of participants – the clubs include floorball, na-ture club, homework, singing, art and multi-sports. Several children won a poetry competition organised by The Dogs’ Trust and the lucky winners attended the opening ceremony at the new buildings in Wickhamford. They had a tour of the wonderful new facili-ties and were very impressed with the new kennels for the dogs as well as the dogs’ playground (complete with water fountain!) We have been very pleased to welcome our Open the Book team again this term. The time spent listen-ing to Bible stories and singing some hilarious action songs is a special time of the week. If you would like to see the school in action, please do contact us – you will be assured of a very warm welcome! Telephone number: (01386)852646 Mark Jackson Head Teacher

The first age is learning at school., the second is learning at work and the third age is when that is over and you can learn whatever you like. Our name can be misleading. We are not remotely like university students. We do not sit exams. It is all about friendship, keeping active in body and mind, and enjoying our leisure hours in ways that our parents would have envied . A bright spark thought a few years ago, 1996, that it would be good to have a U3A group around here. Since then we have grown to 400 members and over 40 groups. This year a new committee takes on the reigns. Membership is £22 a year for a couple or £12 for individual A general open meet is held at Willersey Village Hall on 2nd Thursday of each month from 2.00 pm and usually finish by 4.00pm. Groups meet throughout the week, mornings and afternoons, at this hall or other determined places eg Wickhamford Hall. As usual there is the web site for more information
http://u3asites.org.uk Our Open meetings are open to visitors. We welcome a donation of £2.00 December 8th Our Christmas Open Meeting Entertainment, magic, music and a joke or two will be provided by David Moylan There will be opportunity to sing a few carols too. Please note that we will be charging £3 per person to cover the entertainment and Afternoon Tea. January 12th 2017 An Unusual Job for a Lady – Marion Canning Marion worked as a Toastmaster for 15 years. She will tell us how and why she became a toastmaster with plenty of amusing anecdotal stories. February 11th Hidcote through the Lens of Country Life Magazine – Derek Ball A talk on the restoration and development of the famous gardens. Surprise yourself and find out why we have been so successful as a U3A.
Wickhamford Gardening Club. After another successful year with interesting talks, demonstrations, gar-den visits, together with our usual Spring and Summer Shows, we start the New Year of 2017 with an illustrated talk given by one of the club's fa-vorurite speakers Adrian James, this time entitled "Three west country Gardens". As usual we meet at 7.30pm in the Memorial Hall , the January meeting scheduled for Wednesday 25TH, 2017. We look forward to see-ing all members from 2016 and wish to welcome new ones to our friendly informative club.

The practice of yoga is an art and science dedicated to creating union between body, mind and spirit. Its objective is to assist the practitioner in using the breath and body to foster an awareness of ourselves as individualized beings intimately connected to the unified whole of creation. In short it is about making balance and creating equanimity so as to live in peace, good health and harmony with the greater whole. This art of right living was perfected and practiced in India thousands of years ago and the foundations of yoga philosophy were written down in The Yoga Sutra of Patanjali, approximately 200 AD
