A graphic novel is a genre of literature that uses a specific amount of pictures

and word captions to tell a story.

COMPONENTS OF A GRAPHIC NOVELPages consist of a variety of elements …

• Panels- squares or rectangles that contain a single scene

• Gutters- space between panels

• Dialog Balloons- contain communication between/among characters

• Thought Balloons- contain a character’s thoughts

• Captions- contain information about a scene or character

• Sound Effects- visual sound clues i.e.. Wonk! Pow!

V’S REVENGE

• Vengeance is the motivation for all of V’s actions in the novel

• Wants revenge for the testing done on him & for the corrupt government

• V has no limit to his revenge and sees his actions as justified (“the end justifies the means”)

• V gets his revenge through

1) Killing many government officials

2) The destruction of buildings or monuments that represent government or ideas about justice

3) BY destroying the government that made him into what he is today

• V’s character personifies freedom

• V imprisons Evey and makes her get over her own fears

• Goes to Creedy knowing that he will die, but that he will finally have freedom for the people of London and himself (through his death)

Freedom is an important theme and is displayed through both V & Evey’s characters

• Evey receives freedom from V and

Fights for the people

• Evey represents the people of LondonIn her inability to be free, but this slowly

changes throughout the novel

• She makes the choice to blow up

parliament in order to be truly free

On the back … include an explanation of your symbol, why you picked it, and how it represents you.

DIARY ENTRY ACTIVITY

Choose to be either V or Evey from the graphic novel, V For

Vendetta, and write three diary entries from that character’s

perspective to show your character development over time.

1) One entry for each book in the novel (1,2,3)- this is to show the

progression and changes in the character(s)

2) Include details- major events that happened, what they saw, felt …

3) Include a title page
