Rain is expected in Gonzales, California which hasslowed production down. Overall markets are higher due to thecolder weather over the past ten days.

More harvest is expected to begin this month andincrease weekly.

Green Bell Pepper quality is mostly good. Themarket is stronger, volume is down slightly due to cold weather inSouthern Sonora. Red and Yellow Bell Pepper market are verystrong. Cold weather in Southern Sonora has affected supplies andpricing has increased slowly.

Due to varietal shifts and cooler weatherin both Mexico and California, production volumes continue to belight. The cold and wet weather in California has delayed domesticproduction but is expected to gradually improve over the next 2-3weeks. Quality from Mexico region has been good. Pricesare slightly higher. Domestic production has started on the westcoast. Conventional crops in Santa Maria and Oxnard have beenslowed down due to the cold weather and are expected to come onslowly late March to early April. Raspberry suppliesremain limited this week. This is mostly due to cooler temps delayingdomestic production. Mexico has been in its lowest productionperiod. Mexico and California. quality has been good.The weather forecasts for the California growing regions call formore rain starting later this week. This could possibly delay harvestand affect yields. Oxnard and Santa Maria are expecting somemoderate rainfall.

Yuma is commanding a premium due to thetransportation traffic. The quality has been good despite marketconditions.

The brussel sprout market is trendingup. Supplies out of Mexico have decreased due to colder temps in thegrowing region. Oxnard is producing but not at a level to help. Thequality is still consistently good with vibrant green color, all sizes,and minimal decay.

The cauliflower market remains active withlimited supplies from all growing regions. Salinas has started in alight way. Quality is still fair with arrivals showing brown spotting/bruising, as well as off-color. Although the quality reports out ofSalinas are looking good, but sizing is small.

Smaller sizing is a little lighter in availability. Moderateavailability continues in Yuma. overall quality is good. The coolweather throughout this week will not affect production.

: Quality is generally good out of all areas withsizing. : The lime market continues to be a challenge thisweek. Mexico’s production has gradually increased, but the qualityhas decreased as a result of the recent rain and cold temperatures.Overall, there isn’t any immediate relief in price or supplies for thenext two weeks. : The Navel Orange market is unchangedwith steady demand and limited supplies. Expect to see a very shortsupply situation on the smaller fruit through the end of the season(May or early June).

Cilantro supplies have decreased significantly. Thecold weather in Mexico and Yuma have decreased supplies. Qualityis fair at best due to recent freezing temperatures in Mexico andYuma. Quality issues of yellow to brown discoloration of the leavesand some decay are being reported upon arrivals.

Eggplant volume is down due to cold weather inthe Southern Sonoran growing area in Mexico.

: The green and red grapemarkets are stable with moderate supply. Quality will beconstantly good for the remainder of the Chileanseason.

: Bad weather conditions in the desert,coupled with lighter availability. The cold weather has causedmultiple defects to occur with this commodity. Misshapen headsizing, decay and frost damage has been reported upon arrivals.

: Romaine market demand exceeds supplies, and look tocontinue throughout this week. Escalated pricing is in effectButter and red leaf are steady. Defects that have been reportedinclude blister and peel, twisting. Light supplies are expectedfor the next two weeks minimum on romaine followed up byinconsistent production for the rest of March. Production in allgrowing regions has been altered due to weather conditions.

Supply shortage on both conventional &organic wild and regular arugula. Supply shortages on organicbaby kale as well. Suppliers are struggling with yellowing andmildew that has caused major decreases in raw product. Babyspinach and spring mix supplies remain steady, but quality isfair.

Melons are mostlysteady on both coasts. The quality has been good.Quality is good. Lighter supplies expected until the start of thespring crop in late March.

The market is slightly weaker on most sizes ofonions out of all shipping points. Demand is moderate to light.Quality is still being reported as good. Only an occasional reportof light translucent layers showing up. New Crop Mexico onionscontinue to increase volumes. The green onionmarket is trending higher at a slow pace. The previous freezingtemperatures in Mexico have decreased supplies. Quality issuessuch as yellow to brown tops, and some decay of the tips arebeing reported upon arrivals.

Markets are steady on most sizes. Quality is stillholding up nicely. Growers are slowing down supplies to extendtheir storage crop, so they don’t have a gap in supplies out ofthese areas.

Yellow squash supplies are still lower than zucchini.Quality of yellow squash varies, quality of zucchini is still mostlygood. Spring crop for summer squash from Mexico is due tobegin harvest in 3-4 weeks.

Prices are beginning to spike due to limitedsupplies caused by the cold temps in the growing regions. Expectless fruit coming into the pipeline until the end of March.
