V-Bite 18 th October 2010 Hi Everyone Last week a large group of students from Men’s Rugby volunteered with the National Trust as part of a teambuilding day. Pictures of the day will go up on our web-pages later this week but just to say, thanks for all your hard work. The Sussex landscape is much improved for your efforts! As indicated in last week’s V-Bite, we are currently experiencing a high demand for appointments, as is usual in the Autumn term. Please be patient, don’t worry – you will get to see us, most projects recruit all year round and we have numerous volunteering opportunities. You can view appointment availability online and you will see that we only ever book appointments up a few days in advance. So, please contact us from MONDAYS (not before) for appointments on WEDNESDAY and THURSDAY of the following week; and from THURSDAYS (not before), for appointments on MONDAYS and TUESDAYS. Appointment times are at 11, 12, 2pm and 3pm. VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES We have over 250 volunteering opportunities registered with us. To get brief details of these use the ‘Opportunity Search’ facility on our website: www.sussexstudent.com/volunteering/ Then, if you wish to find out more about how you can get involved in any of the opportunities, contact us on [email protected] to make an appointment to register with us.

COMMUNITY PROJECTS ON CAMPUS! Every now and again we invite projects registered with us onto campus to talk directly to students about their volunteering opportunities. This is a great opportunity for you to find out more about volunteering with these specific projects. This term we have arranged the following: 1) Project Name: The Children’s Society Befriending Service

Volunteering Role: To befriend young disabled people aged 12-18 yrs old, spend time getting to know them and developing a good relationship with them, and help them to identify, share and enjoy new interests.

Time Commitment: A minimum of 2-4 hours per week for a year.

Would suit you if …. Have an interest and enthusiasm for working with young people, would like to develop your skills & experience in supporting people and knowledge of disability issues. If interested, come along to one or both of the following:

a) Information stall Thursday 28th October 11am – 2pm Foyer of Falmer House.

b) Short presentation and Question & Answer session Friday 29th October 11-12am Students’ Union Meeting Room (top floor of South-East corner of Falmer House).
