DON GIBE Volunteer Board Chairman United Way of Southern Nevada

ADVANCING THE COmmON GOOD BY DRIVING COLLECTIVE ImPACT

As we look back on FY 12-13, we consider the changing tide of optimism amidst continued hardship.

While our nation, our state and our community continues to rebound, we see bright spots. We are advancing the conversation around our community. We are collaborating like never before. We are working with esteemed partners like the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. We are raising the bar on the non-profit landscape. The 77th Nevada Legislative session concluded with promise, and emphasis on accountability, protection, and raising standards. We are listening, supporting, and forging ahead with purpose.

United Way of Southern Nevada (UWSN) continues to grow and evolve with new talent and fresh thinking, yet we always remain true to the United Way legacy and history. We continue to embrace innovation, creativity and efficiency. We are seeing hard work paying off. We are seeing lives being changed. We are seeing healthier families, more financially secure families, and confident preschoolers ready to conquer Kindergarten.

Our affinity groups continue to amaze us with their passion and dedication, and this energy is bringing new members with new perspectives and experience. At the same time, we are engaging new workplace campaigns, and feeling energized by their enthusiasm to give back in their own unique ways. We are impacting the lives of volunteers by offering them life changing opportunities.

Collaboration and integrated thinking continues to buoy us forward. This year the Non Profit CEO Advisory group was founded, bringing together eight of our community’s non-profit CEO leaders, the Mayor and Clark County Commissioner Chris Giunchigliani, to work collaboratively, eliminate duplication, and drive impact.

We see new faces and new input on our volunteer led Board of Directors. This year, Don Gibe steps down as Board Chair and is replaced by Emily Neilson. Don’s leadership, partnership and continuity over his two-year term as Board Chair has been truly invaluable. We forge forward with tenacity and a continued eagerness to raise the bar, to help more people, to transform more lives.

We are building a more solid future for all by bringing together the best and brightest to drive collective impact. On behalf of United Way staff, board, and community partners, thank you for your continued partnership. Person by person, we can make lasting change. Together, we are making lasting change. Together, we LIVE UNITED

Sincerely,

I CREATE CHANGE

Outreach identifies children with urgent dental needs, and the program implements a full-scope evaluation that provides a stronger foundation for oral health through case management focusing on referral to local dentists or the UNLV School of Dental Medicine (SDM) for restorative dental care.

Mobile units provide oral health screenings and education programs to many of United Way’s early Childhood Development Centers and visit an additional eight Clark County School District schools including: Fay Herron, Virgin Valley, Martinez, Culley and Bennett elementary schools, Laughlin Jr/Sr High School, Brinley Middle School, and Chaparral High School.
