Volunteer Governed United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra is a volunteer governed organization. This means that your neighbors, your co-workers and your friends make all decisions based on the needs of our community. This board of directors consists of 18 community leaders with diverse backgrounds and a full understanding of the needs of our cities and rural areas. Hundreds of volunteers provide leadership and direction for the organization.

Our volunteers, donors, and advocates invested their passion, resources and expertise to create a better life for all. Our focus in education, financial stability, and health are the building blocks for a good life. Through your commitment , young children are entering school better prepared to succeed, families are building brighter, more financially stable futures, and people are living healthy lifestyles. What is United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra? United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra (UWNNS) is a local, independent nonprofit organization that holds itself accountable not just for action but also for results. We are driven by a commitment to make a real difference in the communities we serve and create lasting positive changes in people’s lives.

We are guided by our mission statement: “We link the community’s will and resources to improve lives.” Building on nearly 70 years of service, we seek to achieve our vision of

“working together to build a better community” by: • Identifying our most pressing needs • Developing strategies that address these issues • Pulling together financial and human resources • Tackling these issues with innovative funding • Producing measurable results that will make a difference and

improve people’s lives.

Our service territory is now made up of 13+ northern Nevada Counties and the

Lake Tahoe Basin
