Counseling for Removing Stress On 9 th March 2016, Uttarakhand Technical University jointly with Pari Foundation, and Doon Medical College, Dehradun organized a talk on Prevention of Stress and Substance Abuses. The talk by Dr Sona Kaushal Gupta, Medical Expert and CMD of Pari Foundation provided educational instructions to all students to get rid of drugs and depression. The University has made it almost mandatory for all its colleges of to organize such workshop and seminar in their institute. 5. Trade Expert Committee Meeting A Trade Expert Committee meeting was organized on 9 th March 2016 by Advanced Training Institute of Electronics & Process Instrumentation, Dehradun to discuss and finalize the various skill-based short term training courses for the students that are to be included in calendar year 2016-17 along with course content, machinery, tools and equipment for these courses, CITS courses and improvement in employability. Hon.ble Vice-Chancellor, Prof. P.K Garg attended the meeting as a member of the committee, and gave some useful suggestions. He also requested the organization to arrange tailor made courses of 4-6 weeks duration, where students of UTU can attend as summer interns, and enhance their skills as well as complete their compulsory academic requirements. 6. North Zone, Volleyball (W) Championship Kurukshetra University hosted the North Zone, Volleyball (Women) championships a 2015-16.The championship was held at sports complex of Kurukshetra University from 10 th to 14 th March 2016. 1. University Kulgeet

2. Brainstorming for Starting New Courses

A meeting of all University officers was held on 4th March 2016, at University premises regarding starting up new courses by the University. The meeting was chaired by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. P.K Garg, where Registrar, Controller of Examination and Dy Registrar, were also present on this occasion. Experts from various organisations outside Uttarakhand were also invited.

3. Exam Reform Committee

An exam reform committee meeting was held on March 05, 2016 at University premises to reform the examination system. The meeting was chaired by Vice-Chancellor, Prof. P.K Garg. Experts from various organisations outside Uttarakhand and COE of the University were also present.

4. Counseling for Removing Stress

On 9th March 2016, Uttarakhand Technical University jointly with Pari Foundation, and Doon Medical College, Dehradun organized a talk on Prevention of Stress and Substance Abuses. The talk by Dr Sona Kaushal Gupta, Medical Expert and CMD of Pari Foundation provided educational instructions to all students to get rid of drugs and depression. The University has made it almost mandatory for all its colleges of to organize such workshop and seminar in their institute.

5. Trade Expert Committee Meeting

A Trade Expert Committee meeting was organized on 9th March 2016 by Advanced Training Institute of Electronics & Process Instrumentation, Dehradun to discuss and finalize the various skill-based short term training courses for the students that are to be included in calendar year

2016-17 along with course content, machinery, tools and equipment for these courses, CITS courses and improvement in employability. Hon.ble Vice-Chancellor, Prof. P.K Garg attended the meeting as a member of the committee, and gave some useful suggestions. He also requested the organization to arrange tailor made courses of 4-6 weeks duration, where students of UTU can attend as summer interns, and enhance their skills as well as complete their compulsory academic requirements.

6. North Zone, Volleyball (W) Championship

Kurukshetra University hosted the North Zone, Volleyball (Women) championships a 2015-16.The championship was held at sports complex of Kurukshetra University from 10th to 14th March 2016.

The All India Inter University Taekwondo Championship (Men) 2015-16 was held on Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar from 20th to 21st March 2016.

The Taekwondo team of Uttarakhand Technical University participated in All India Inter University Taekwondo Championship (Men) 2015-16. The following were the sportsperson of the team

8. Conference on Sustainable Asphalt for Developing Countries at CRRI, New Delhi

CSIR-Central Road Research Institute-New Delhi organized a Conference on Sustainable Asphalt for Developing Countries (CONSAP-2016) on March 11-12. 2016 at CRRI, New Delhi.

The CONSAP-2016 provided an excellent forum for highway engineering fraternity-researchers, experts, technocrats, academicians, consultant and consulting firms etc. More than 500 delegates from India and abroad attended the CONSAP-2016. Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Prof. P.K Garg graced the occasion as a Guest of Honour, and highlighted the importance of developing asphalt roads

in India. He also visited the exhibition, arranged by CRRI for the delegates.

9. Meeting with all Ph.D Scholars of UTU

On 14th March 2016, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. P.K Garg convened a meeting with all Ph.D, scholars registered with Uttarakhand Technical University at Auditorium (UTU New Building) to discuss various issues, like quality of research, Ph.D. guidelines and new course work proposed by the University. This meeting greatly helped the registered Ph.D. scholar of University to speed up their Ph.D work within the stipulated time frame, which is the main concern of the University.

The meeting continued for 3 hours which was attended by more than 500 Ph.D scholars. Their specific problems were also resolved on the spot. PhD Scholars appreciated such kind of interaction meeting. Registrar, COE, FC, Dy Registrar, Asstt. COE and other staff of UTU were also present on this occasion.

10. Sports Council Meeting

A meeting of Council for Sports & Cultural Activities, was held on 15th March, 2016 at the office of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, of UTU, the meeting was presided by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. P.K Garg and the following University members were present:

11. MAKE IN INDIA-Challenges in Global Perspective

In the loving memories of Late Pt. Roop Chand Sharma Ji the founder Chairman of Bishamber Sahai Group of Institutions, the Institute organized 7th National Seminar on MAKE IN INDIA-Challenges in Global Perspective on 14th March 2016. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. P.K Garg, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, and delivered speech on the benefits of Make in India Scheme.

12. Manfest-2016

Doon Business School organized an All India Annual Management cum Cultural Festival “Manfest-16” on 18th and 19th March 2016. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. P.K Garg, joined the Cultural Festival on March 19 as Chief Guest, and distributed the prizes to staff, students and competitors.

13. Holi Celebrations

University celebrated the Holi festival to keep the traditions and culture alive. On March 22nd evening, the University Employee celebrated “Holi – The festival of colors” and provided best wishes to each other and delicious sweets.

14. Back Paper Examinations

The back paper examinations of various technical courses commenced from 29th March 2016, where more than thousands of students are appearing in the exams.

16. Transactional SMS

In India, Transactional SMS is usually sent by hospitals, registered banks, e-commerce companies, e-ticketing agencies, railways, airlines, and financial organizations. The University has started using the Transactional SMS from March 2016. The Transactional SMS provides the following benefits, Quick delivery, Useful tool for alerts, Open 24×7, easy access with all institutions of UTU.

17. Bharatanatyam by SPIC MACAY

SPIC MACAY (Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth) Dehradun conducted a Bharatanatyam dance by Padma Shri Geeta Chandran ji, at Uttarakhand Technical University, on 30th March 2016. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. P.K Garg, graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Shri. J.P.S Tomar, Finance Controller, Prof. Vijay Juyal, Registrar, Prof. K.S Vaisla, COE, Mrs. Shabali Gurung, Asst. Director Sports and Student Welfare & Physical Education, Shri. S.P.S Rawat, Deputy Registrar, Dr. Alaknanda Ashok, Director, Women Institute of Technology, Dr. Yusra Ahmed, HoD, Department of Pharmacy, Shri. Ganesh Rawat, Asst. Account Officer along with all University, M.Tech, M.Pharm teaching staffs were present on the occasion. The students of M.Tech, M.Pharm and Women Institute of Technology enjoyed the program.

It also seeked to inspire youth through experiencing the mysticism embodied in the rich and heterogeneous cultural tapestry of Indian and World Heritage, with a hope that the beauty, grace, values and wisdom embodied in these arts will influence their way of life and thinking and inspire one to become a better human being. Youth development. SPIC MACAY introduced the lec-dem (lecture-demonstration) format to present Indian classical art forms in a comprehensive manner in front of today’s youth, which has given them an understanding of the basics of the classical art forms, and done away with the misconception that classical arts are difficult to understand. To give artistes a chance to undertake an inward journey and reach depths of performance (taking us along too), we endeavor to organize performances in an ambience conducive for touching the highest heights, both by the artists and the rasikas.

18. PhD Viva Voce held

The University recently conducted six Ph.D viva-voce exams in Computer Science and Engineering, Pharmacy, Bio-Tech. and Applied Science (Bioinformatics) in March 2016. The viva voce exams of Mr Akhilesh Kumar Tripathi, Ms Aruna Rani, Mr Nasiruddin Ahmad Farooqui, Ms Anshita Goel, Mr Rupesh Dudhe, Ms Sadhna Singh and Ms Manjeet Gupta were successfully completed by the University. (Hearty Congratulations to all candidates for successful completion of their PhD program). University is starting its own mobile app from April 2016, this will act as a bridge between the University and Students. Also, it will help students and people to build relationship. It will also increase visibility and accessibility of University

State Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology & Applied Nutrition (SIHMCT&AN)

1. Two days workshop on Motivational

Empowerment of Hospitality Professionals

The SIHMCT & AN, New Tehri witnessed two days workshop from March 09-10 at the seminar hall of the Institute by Dr. Sanjay Singh Maher, Assistant Professor & Head, Department of Tourism, Government Degree College, Narendra Nagar, Uttarakhand. All the students of the BHMCT degree course were present at this knowledge

sharing session. The session started after the welcome speech by Director, SIHMCT Dr. Yashpal Negi, and was followed by two more sessions for the day. The next day, the session started at 11 am and the last session of the day was interactive session of questions/ answers by the students and the expert.

The topics discussed during the workshop were:-

i) Motivational empowerment of hospitality professionals

ii) Leadership skills iii) Skill competencies in hospitality industry iv) Stress management for the Hotel

professionals v) Team building and mentoring vi) How to enhance career opportunities in hotel

industry vii) Case studies viii) Interactive question / answer session

followed by student presentation

First day, Dr. Maher began session with the introduction about Hospitality Industry and its career prospects followed by the lectures on Motivation, Leadership skills and skills competencies required for Hospitality Professionals. He emphasized on the guests’ expectations, present demand of hospitality industry and the various traits of leadership and motivation required for hospitality professionals. Second day, the expert started lecture with the topic of Stress management followed by Team building and mentoring exercises required for hospitality graduates. He focused on the other issues, like career opportunities and even continued a session of case studies related to tourism and hospitality with the students.

It was a learning experience for the students of the institute and deeply appreciated by all of them. The workshop session came to an end with the interaction of students with expert followed by the vote of thanks by Mr Abhishek

2.0 Glimps of under-construction building of SIHMCT&AN at “M” block, New Tehri

Gyani Inder Singh Institute of Professional Studies EDC organized a three days entrepreneurship awareness camp at Gyani Inder Singh Institute of Professional Studies, from March, 6-8, 2016. It was funded by DST-NSTEBD. Participants included from Gyani Inder Singh Institute of Professional Studies as well as from other Engineering, Diploma and Science colleges.

Ms. Neetu Kainth (Managing Director, GISIPS) inaugurated the camp. She highlighted the importance of entrepreneurship in developing countries. Mr. K. N. Kotiyal (Ex. GM DIC) explained the role of entrepreneurship. Also present were Prof. Mr. Arun Kumar Sharma Head EDC. About 100 participants from DIT, GRD, ICM visited Suncare Formulation Selqui and Oasis formulation Selaqui. They were given the certificates. The programme was conducted by Mr. Kashif Hussain and Ms

Tulsi Bisht. The programme was useful and highly successful.

J.B Institute of Technology

1. Open Pool Campus

J.B. Institute of Technology, Dehradun hosted Open Pool Campus drives for selection processes for four reputed multinational companies viz Tacky Minds, Dehradun, SeachResultsMedia.com, Ahmadabad, Tele Performance, Jaipur and Him Imperial Pvt. Ltd, Ambala between March 01 to 16, 2016.

In these four campus drives, 834 students from 29 different colleges of Uttarakhand participated with full enthusiasm. 38 students were finally selected and received the job offers. A total 930 students from different Colleges have been placed through pool campus drives conducted at JBIT Dehradun in last six months. Chairman Mr. L.D. Singhal,. Vice Chairman Mr. Sandeep Singhal, Secretary Mr. Rajat Singhal, Dean-Mr. Pankaj Chaudhary, All HODs and faculty were present in the pool campus drives. 2. 7th Annual Sports Meet Organized J.B. Institute of Technology, Dehradun hosted 7th Annual Sports Meet from March 01-02, 2016. About 860 students from different departments participated in 47 Indoor and Outdoor Sports activities viz. Cricket, Basketball, Football, Volleyball, Badminton, Chess, Kabaddi, Kho Kho, Race, Long Jump, High Jump etc. Chairman Mr. L.D. Singhal, Vice Chairman Mr. Sandeep Singhal, Secretary Mr. Rajat Singhal, Dean-Mr. Pankaj Chaudhary, All HODs and faculty members were present in the sports meet.

3. Nodel Center of Virtual Labs- in Association with IIT Delhi inaugurated

Nodel Center of Virtual Labs-An Initiative of MHRD in association of IIT Delhi was inaugurated at J.B Institute of Technology, Dehradun on 17.03.16 by Prof. P.K. Garg-Vice Chancellor of Uttarakhand Technical University. While addressing to the students, he told that such high tech labs and ICT initiatives are essential in modern era to better understand the fundamentals of engineering and technology as well as to promote the culture of innovation, research and development among the students and faculty members. Prof. Tanmay Das and other delegated from IIT Delhi conducted two days workshop for about 700 students to make them aware about Virtual Labs and its usage. Chairman Mr. L.D. Singhal,. Maya Institute of Technology and Management

1. Workshop sponsored by UCOST

Maya Group of colleges organized one day workshop with UCOST on “Scope of Science & Technology with Reference to Recent Government Scheme. Technical Discussions held by Dr. D.P Uniyal, Senior Scientific Officer, UCOST, Dr. V.K Varshney, Scientist –F & Head, Chemistry Division, Forest Research Institute, Dr. Amarjeet Singh, Deputy Chief Project Officer, UREDA, Dr. Sanjay Kumar Aggarwal, HOD Department of Maths, Dolphin (PG) Institute of Bio Medical & Natural Science, Dr. J.P Semwal Executive Director, Tehri Pulp & Paper Ltd, Dr. Avanish K.Tiwari Director, Centre for Renewable Energy & Sustainable Development, Dr, Vijay Veer Former Director, DRDO and Dr. Versha Percha HOD, Chemistry, SBS on topics like Start up India, Stand up India, Wake up India, Smart city Mission, Skill India, Digital India Programme, Clean India, Make in India, Soil Health Card Scheme and many more.

Dr. U.S Rawat, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Sri Dev Suman University and Shri M.L Juyal, Chairman, Maya Devi Educational Foundation were the Chief Patrons of the workshop. Aim of this workshop was to support India to grow strong and also help to find out new techniques and implement them. The vision of the workshop was to bring about more meaningful and deliberate interaction between science and society.

This workshop acted as an incubator for technology driven projects and provide new knowledge to produce technologies that can be absorbed into the social system. Vice Chairman Dr. Ashish Semwal, M.D Ms Tripti Semwal, Secretary Mr Saurav Juyal, Dr.Amit Bhatt along with Directors, Faculties and students were present at the workshop.

2. Magic show by Indian Red Cross Society

The Magic show has been organized at Maya Group of Colleges by Indian Red Cross Society. Different types of magic were presented to remove the superstitious believe of people.

Students enjoyed the show and also helped magician to show their magic in a better way. This Magic show was organized specially for the noble cause of handicapped children. Mr Narendra Singh and magician Mr V.K Samrat were the Associate members from Indian Red Cross Society. College Vice Chairman Dr. Ashish Semwal, M.D Ms Tripti Semwal, Secretary Mr Saurav Juyal, along with all Directors, Faculties and students were present at the Magic show.

Roorkee Institute of Technology

1. Students selected as Software Engineers A joint campus placement drive was organized by Josh Technology (Gurgaon) at Roorkee Institute of Technology for students of B.Tech (CE & ECE) & MCA on 24 Feb, 2016. About 65 students of RIT participated for the posts of Software Engineers of the company. The Director for professional affairs, Mr. Roiston, conducted the aptitude and technical round tests in the first phase of their selection.

Final selection round will be conducted at the company Headquarters based in Gurgaon. All students finally

selected will get an annual salary package of Rs 6.5 Lacs per annum. Encouraging partially selected students the Managing Trustees Mr. Yash Agarwal and Mr. Naman Bansal said that success garlands only those who keep their continuous efforts and burn their mid-night oil lamps. Motivating the students, Director General Prof. A.K. Mathur & Director Dr. Parag Jain wished the students good luck.

2. Seminar on “Management Practices”

A seminar was organized at Roorkee Institute of Technology to discuss the pragmatic and realistic approach of Management, aspects in corporate field, Mr. V. K. Saxena Deputy General Manager, (Human Resource), Unitech Machines Limited, Saharanpur was the subject expert. Mr. Saxena highlighted those problem areas faced by the candidates during interviews for the job. He said that the basic and the deep subject knowledge is the foremost requirement. He emphasized that all answers to the questions asked from the candidate should be straight, concise and correct. While facing the interview, candidates should keep his nerve cool and should respond in a positive manner. Mr. Sexena also emphasized on punctuality & maintaining simplicity. Mr. Naman Bansal and Mr. Yash Agarwal, the Managing Trustees felt the need to organize such useful seminars for the benefit and welfare of the students in the institution. The seminar was a great success.

3. Holi Festival Celebration

On the eve of Holi festival, Roorkee Institute of Technology, Roorkee celebrated Holi, a festival of rejoice and festivity, Managing Trustees duo Mr. Yash Agarwal and Mr. Naman Bansal scattered petals of flowers along with Director General, Director and Dean among the

employees of RIT and students in a hall packed to its capacity.

They exchanged pleasantries with one another, wishing a very happy Holi. The rejoice and merriment culminated into a feast and a good bye.

College of Engineering Roorkee

1. Workshop on “Efficient Energy Generation and Utilization in Uttarakhand”

Mechanical, Electrical and Civil Engineering Departments of COER organized a three days workshop on “Efficient Energy Generation and Utilization in Uttarakhand” on March 10-12, 2016. Workshop consisted of five sessions, including inaugural, 3 technical and valedictory sessions. Workshop was inaugurated by Chief Guest Dr Rajesh Chandra, Chairman IEEE Roorkee Chapter. Guest of Honour for the session was Dr. Tanzeem Ali, Chief Finance Controller, and Government of Uttarakhand. Students of Electrical, Mechanical and Civil departments displayed posters and working models depicting the theme of the workshop during the session.

Technical sessions were divided in three sessions, one session for each department. Cash prizes were given to best posters and best models.

COER has started its own online international journal ‘The Engineering Journal of Application and Scope’ (TEJAS), which has been inaugurated during the workshop by the Chairman. The focus areas of TEJAS would lie in four major steams viz Renewable Energy, Green Building, Soft Computing and Robotics & Aviation.

2. Inauguration of Solar Lab and Robotics lab

The workshop also included inauguration of Solar Lab and Robotics lab in COER Campus.

3. Industrial Visit

An industrial visit was organized by ET Department for the second year ET& AEI Students in the prestigious Bengal Engineering Group Roorkee on 8th March 2016, where army persons demonstrated the communication equipments used by Indian Army.

Another industrial visit was organized by ET Department for final year students of ET & AEI in ITC Saharanpur, where they were demonstrated about Automation system, PLC and all about processing equipments.

Students of 2nd year EN went to Uttarakhand Paper and Pulp Mill situated in Mangalore for industrial visit. During this visit, students learnt the process of changing waste material of paper in liquid pulp and making a fine paper from it. A visit to Ambuja Cement Plant, Bhagwanpur, Roorkee was organized by Civil Engineering Department of COER on March 15, 2016. The objective of this visit was to build capacity and create awareness among students to understand the cement manufacturing process, technologies and affordable options for sustainable development.

An industrial visit to Anchor Electricals Pvt. Ltd, BHEL has been arranged for final year student. This visit helped students to show some manufacturing processes and automation.

4. Other Achievements

EN department introduced the course of PCB designing using Proteus, OrCAD & Express PCB software which is conducted by CETPA Infotech Pvt. Ltd. for 2rd year EN branch students from 10th March 2016.

Mr Tejan Mehndiratta of ET second Year COER participated in Technical Fest at IIT Kanpur from March 4-6, 2016 and won first prize in Pick & Place Robotics Competition Techkriti .

5. Mega ATV Championship 2016 (SAE-COER)

The SAE-COER collegiate club recently participated in a national level event Mega ATV Championship 2016. The event is being organised by Autosports India, in association with Kalinga Motorsports Club, supported by Ministry of Sports, Govt. of Odisha, FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile) and FMSCI (Federation of Motorsports Club of India) from March 04-March 07, 2016 at Bhubaneshwar. Team ZEPHYR from COER consisted of 29 budding engineers comprising of 7 final year members, 10 pre-final year, 10 second year and 2 students from first year from Mechanical Engineering branch. The aim of Mega ATV Championship is to promote good engineering practices in manufacturing of off-road and ATV (All-Terrain Vehicle) for students by providing a platform where they can learn to design, manufacture and understand the utility of such vehicles. The team from the college proved their potential by clearing the various rounds of challenges like the technical inspection, brake test, acceleration test and eventually winning the Second spot in the event ‘Earthquake Simulation’ a track which was a replica of an earthquake

consisting of sharp bends, non uniform surfaces and steep gradients. ZEPHYR made their mark by surpassing competition from 56 teams from all over the nation involving some reputed names like the BITS Pilani, Thapar University, SRM University, D Y Patil University etc.

6. MDP Modules at Texplas Industries Limited, Haridwar

COER School of Management is given an opportunity to hold MDP Program under Institute–Industry Interface at Texplas India Pvt. Limited, Haridwar. In this programme, the different modules on Corporate Communication, Finance for Non-Finance Executives, Motivation, Team Building and Leadership were presented by Dr. Brijendra Singh Yadav, Dr. Veeralakshmi Babu, Dr. Karuna Jain, Dr. V.K. Jain and Maj. Gen A.K. Chaturvedi, respectively.

7. Other Activities organized in COER

A special lecture by Mr. Tarun Sharma, Regional Lead North India, Cocube was organised for CS/IT students to motivate them.

TIME organized a test called Talent Search for CS/IT 3rd year students. Amcat Examination was conducted for CS/IT 3rd year students. The COER Eco-Club Celebrated a green festival 'HARITIMA' in March 2016. The objective of fest was to bring awareness among the people for Environment Cleaning and Plantation. The fest also helped to cultivate environmental education through various formal and non-formal activities. Numerous activities including Naturathon 'run for conservation of environment' up to 10 km were enjoyed by the people. Pixit— Picture Perception Test: To prepare students for SSB interview, a Picture Perception test was organized by the Literary Committee on March 16, 2017. Group Discussion—The Literary committee also organized a Group Discussion on March 17, 2016 on the topic “Criteria of 75% attendance in Engineering Course.” Disha, the Technical Committee of COER, organised its 10th Annual Techno-Management Fest MANTHAN’16 during March 10-12, 2016. This fest aimed to provide a welcome change from the treadmill of rote learning and above all fairly groom students to accept similar changes when they actually step into the

world of professionalism. A number of technical and management vents events organised during the fest. A large number of students from COER and nearby engineering institutes including IIT Roorkee participated in the fest. 8. Placement in COER
