INSIDE THIS ISSUE:

A MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR

Welcome, to 2020 as we anticipate another wonderful year in various camping ac-tivities with great friends. Being in a free country where we can go where we like and enjoy the great outdoors is such a pleasure.

Unfortunately, we lost another Chapter at the beginning of the year. The Red Cliff Chiefs decided they did not want to go camping any longer and determined to give up their charter. We will miss them!

The State Staff is busy making plans for our Rally to be held in Nephi on June 10-13, 2020. The theme is “Route 66” and it should be a fun activity as we travel that famous route from Illinois to California. We hope you all will plan to attend and participate in the various activities. We have some friends from Colorado who have said they plan to attend with us.

Let me share a couple of fun camping ideas. Perhaps you have already tried them.

Cook Crescent rolls over a campfire. Enjoy warm rolls hot out of the campfire. They are easy to make by wrapping store bought dough around a roasting stick and cooking over the campfire. When done peel the roll off the roasting stick and enjoy them.

Blueberry Orange Muffins: You can make delicious blueberry muffins over a campfire by baking them inside a hollow orange peel! It sounds strange but the results are so good. You need blueberry muffin mix prepared according to package directions. An orange and tin foil.

Start by cutting a couple of oranges in half, scoop out the flesh and eat it or discard it. Fill one half of the orange peel with the blueberry muffin mix. Place the other half of the orange on top, then wrap the whole think with tin foil. Add another wrap of tin foil for good measure.

Place the wrapped orange on a grate over the hot coals. Turn it every few minutes to make sure the muffin bakes evenly. After about 8-10 minutes check the muffin doneness once the center is cooked through, they are done. Add some butter if you like and chow done.

Doing this like this is just one way to make camping fun as you enjoy the campfire and the stories that are told.

Rosalie and I thank you for your support and for your participation in the various Good Sam activities. We, like you, look forward the enjoying the Good Sam family Rally in Nephi, June 10-13; and the Fall Tag in Delta September 17-19, 2020. Let’s gather together and have some fun, food, and friendship.

Thank you!

OVER THE HILL SAM’S

Since the Over-The-Hill Sam's are fair-weather campers, we put out rigs to rest for the winter and have been serving instead. We provided Christmas for five needy families at the Homeless shelter, obtaining clothing, baby items and gifts that were very much needed. We put together bundles of new clothing for several elementary schools, with pants, shirts, socks and underwear, so that children could have warm things to change into if the need

arises. We served dinner at St.Anne’s Lantern House, and then washed dishes and mopped floors to serve our fellow man. And we served hot dogs at RC Willey, to help pay for future charitable giving. We love to socialize, and getting together for supper a couple of times a month keeps our friendships alive, but the service is what reminds us of who we really are.

PEACH CITY SAM’S

NOVEMBER

Nov. meeting was held at the Senior Center in Tremonton. We had 26 members present and three guests joining us for our Thanksgiving feast. The meeting was hosted by Brad and Sandra Farnsworth and Orson and Jeanette Poulsen. We drew for next year's meeting and campout assignments. Now everyone has their assignments for the year and knows what they need to do.

DECEMBER December brings us back to the Senior Center in Tremonton with 22 members and 1 guest attending. We enjoyed a nice catered roast beef dinner from the Pie Dump. We watched the Peach City Good Sam's in Review for 2019. Bob and Cathi had put together a video of all our activities over the past year and it was a lot of fun to go back and watch what fun we had. We collected donations for our local food pantries. We exchanged gifts with a really fun game and everyone went home with a fun Christmas package. JANUARY The New Year brings us together for a fun pot luck dinner that we enjoyed tasting what everyone had brought to share. It's really surprising what a bunch of Good Samers can put together when given no assignments for meals. We talked about places to camp this summer and came up with Hyrum Damn, Three Island St. Park, Flaming Gorge and Matthew Meadow, as well as the Rally and Fall Tag. We're all looking forward to all these campouts. We have a big trip planned for Flaming Gorge and preliminary plans were discussed regarding this trip. It's been a great year for the Peach City Good Sam's. We've had a lot of fun and met some new people. We've lost three of our previous members, which we were sorry to hear about. We've been on some great trips and are looking forward to more new experiences in 2020.

SUNDOWNER SAM’S

NOVEMBER

We went to Jim’s in West Jordan for our November dinner meeting, with Ralph and Shirley Mortensen as our hosts. The theme was “bring your old photos of our activities, past.” We had a good turn out and introduced a new couple coming in to join our ranks; Jerry and Lisa Sagers. They are friends of many of our members before joining the group and they are newly weds!

After our business meeting we played a few mind buster games, we all had fun. No birthdays but we had an anniversary; Gary and Laura Johnson celebrated 58 years. We have had a few people down with operations and sickness and we wish them well and a speedy recovery.

DECEMBER

We had our dinner meeting at the Higgins residence for our Christmas get-together. This is always a good time for all. We have so much fun wondering how the gifts we brought will be handled, and this year was significantly different as to what we have done in the past. Thanks to our president, we had good food and the party was enjoyed by all. Happy birthday was sung to those with birthdays and happy anniversary was wished to Tom and Ethel Jeffs as they celebrate 54 years together. We are wishing those that are under the weather a rapid recovery.

JANUARY

Happy New Year! This brings a new year and new officers. First, we want to give the out going officers a BIG THANKS for their services. There have been rough times and good times but they held it together and we have done a lot as a group. The new officers are Jana Johansen, president and Sid Egbert, vice president. Barbara Egbert is the new secretary. Ramona Higgins will be serving as treasurer for our group again and Leon Higgins will continue as wagon master with the assistance of Greg Johansen. We wish good luck to them!

For our dinner meeting we went to Mi Ranchito in South Jordan, there were 24 in attendance. We had a guessing game as to the amount of cinnamon bears, cashews, and peanut M&Ms that were in mason jars. We mostly guessed wrong, except a few that were more conservative on their numbers and won the prize. We have a few members that are headed south and we wish them well. We have a few that are under the weather and we hope they feel better soon. We are thinking about going to Delta for the Snow Goose Festival in February again this year. If you have never been, it is a sight to see and well worth the drive!

UTAH TRAIL DUSTERS

OCTOBER

The Utah Trail dusters went on an outing close to home at the Mountain Valley RV Park. We are finding that many of our members do not like to go distances with their RV’s, so we liked the above facility which was close to our homes. Several of our members have four wheelers so they got together and explored the beautiful mountains covered with fall foliage. The red leaves were beautiful along with a lesser amount of yellow this year. They came back excited and tired from their travels.

members were present. New chapter officers were elected.

JANUARY

The 1st edition of the 2020 Tooele Travelers was held, once again, at Two Brothers restaurant, 18 members were present.

It was cold for our potluck dinner so the other activities took place in the lounge of the facility used by campers staying there for entertainment and games. There was a fee for the use of the facility, but it was very cold outside so really appreciated being indoors for the rest of the dinners and activities. After our cold luncheon, Al and Jean Ewell entertained us with Al on the Guitar and Jean with her spoons in the lounge of the facility. The weather turned bad so many left a day sooner than they expected to avoid a storm. October surely is a questionable time to be comfortable camping.

NOVEMBER

We helped Utah Food Service serve a large dinner at Mountain America Expo Center. They may not be

able to continue this opportunity if they do not get dinners to service. Rules have changed for securing these large banquets. They have to bid for them so they may not be able to use us in the future depending upon the meals that they get to serve.

During the fall and winter months, we generally host dinners locally and either go out to dinner as a group or to someone’s home. In November we had a good turnout with a dinner in the early evening at Los Hermanos. Some of our members prefer not having late dinners due to failing eyesight. We enjoyed having our formal meeting while the food was being prepared. New officers were chosen and some officers remained in their positions. Decorations were in basically fall colors.

DECEMBER

This was a well attended activity. A lovely pot roast dinner with all the trimmings was provided by Al and Linda Andrew at their lovely home. The rest of the guests brought side dishes. The Andrews had beautiful Christmas decorations and a very formal dinner with china and crystal. We were really spoiled. Al took pictures of each couple dressed in their finest clothing. Later, he gave each couple a picture at our meeting in January. A traditional fun money game was played and some went home with a $2.00 bill, a $5.00 bill or a $10.00 bill if they were lucky. We always love this game. A fun and frustrating game was played with the gifts brought so you would never know what you may go home with because someone might have stolen it away from you! We had three people join us who came looking for a club to join.

JANUARY

Our meeting was held at Chubbies in Vineyard. Our new officers took charge and we discussed possible outings for this new year. People did not want to go long distances so it is hard to find good places. We enjoyed the socialization and the delicious food. Our opportunities to earn money by working for the food services may be limited due to changes that have occurred with the company that we helped. Fewer people were at this meeting.

A couple in our group, Arlene and Roy Kendall, have had a bad year with serious health problems. Things are better in their lives, and they hope to be able to participate more with us in the coming months.

NOVEMBER

In November, we had lunch at Joe Morley's BBQ which was hosted by Clyde and Kathy Jensen. We discussed items that everyone could bring to the December luncheon for donation to a charity. There were 13 members and 7 past members present and everyone enjoyed a good visit and meal.

DECEMBER

In December, we had our holiday lunch at Maddox Ranch House in Perry, Utah, which was hosted by George & Dorothy Parker, along with George & Bonnie Grippen. We were entertained by the Parker's grandson, Johnny, which we enjoyed very much. Everyone brought socks, gloves, scarves and other warm clothing to be donated to the Teenagers Homeless Shelter. Barbara Rowland, Humanitarian, said the

A LOOK BACK IN TIME

shelter appreciated it very much. She also turned in six bottles of aluminum can tabs to the Ronald McDonald House. There were 18 members, 12 past members and three guests present.

JANUARY

Our lunch in January was held at Red Lobster and was hosted by John and Mickey Godfrey. We had 13 members and 13 past members present. We always enjoy getting together for lunch and visiting with everyone. Our president, Curtis Haviland, reported on the State meeting which was held in December. We were sorry to hear of so many chapters turning in their charters.

Getting Parked Without Damaging Anything

The most basic element in RVing is learning to hitch up and unhitch, whether you are driving a car pulling a popup, a diesel truck towing a fifth wheel or a Class A motorhome towing a car. As camping season quickly approaches a reminder of the basics is always helpful…

The most important thing for the driver and the person standing outside of the rig is to stay in eye contact with each other. This is entirely up to the person running around outside. If you can see the driver’s face in the rear view mirrors, you are golden. If you can’t, then any kind of gesture you make, including jumping up and down and waving your arms because the driver is about to drive the rig right off a cliff, will never be seen.
