Dear Golf Community Homeowners,Steiner Ranch Golf Committee Update

Since your vote approving the creation of sub homeowners association, the informal committee has been meeting monthly in anticipation of the transition. Here are some highlights and updates:

• We have met with the Developer, Taylor Morrison, who indicated it was transitioning out of Steiner Ranch with a projected turnover date of this April or possibly into May.

• The Developer has the right to create our sub homeowners association and indicated it would be completed before it transitioned out of the community. Consequently our association will be “declared” before the new independent Master Association is organized.

• The Developer has publically indi-cated it is completing the road repair

study and will be making the repairs unless it is determined another devel-oper is responsible for a particular repair. We expect most if not all the repairs will be accomplished soon.

• The three incorporators ( Jim Choat, Richard Clark and Jennifer Foster) of the golf community HOA will manage the association until a board is elected which will be its first order of business after Taylor Morrison declares the for-mation of the sub association.

• We plan to be communicating on a regular basis as we will be begin-ning the process to open the UTGC HOA, elect a Board of Directors and form committees to serve with the Board. Please let us know of your interest in being a part of the newest HOA in Steiner Ranch!

For additional information please email [email protected] or contact your advi-sory board members. It’s our communi-ty-let’s keep it the way we want. See you at the meeting.

ACHIEVERSYoungWith entrepreneurial spirit and giving hearts, some of our young neigh-bors have worked with great determination to make a difference for others who are less fortunate. Their mission began in January of 2010 when sisters Kate and Caroline Caldwell, along with their neighbors Cassidy and Kendall Stevenson, saw the news reports on television of the terrible tragedy that resulted from a catastrophic earthquake that took place far away in Haiti, the poorest country in the Western hemi-sphere. The sensitive little girls, then ages 4 through 7, decided they had to do something to help the Haitians. They quickly put together a crafty little lemonade stand near the end of Eagles Glen drive to raise money to donate. They were willing to sell whatever they could find in their

kitchen pantries in order to contribute to the Haitians. "Along with lemonade, we sold snacks, cookies and even toys," said Cas-sidy. Neighbors chipped in to support the noble cause and in just over a couple of weeks, the young business ladies raised well over $300 that their moms proudly donated to an organization called Save the Children that was working to help the most vulnerable people of Haiti.

The Caldwell sisters' compassion for others drove them to continue their fundraising efforts with many additional girlfriends over the last five years for various causes. About two years ago, the girls set up their lemonade shop at the roundabout in Eagles Glen and began raising money to help with medical expenses for a 10 year old girl seeking treatment for stage four cancer. A sixth grade friend, Ellie Petrucelli, told the group of girlfriends about Kate Amato and her illness. So they teamed up and set their goals high to help a girl who most of them had never even met. The Amato family formerly lived in Austin but recently moved to Jacksonville, Florida. To date, the group of ambitious friends has raised an impressive $2,500 that has been donated directly to the Amato family. The young cancer patient was grateful of the girls' efforts and sent them pictures of her smiling through chemotherapy treat-ment with a story of her progress. Ellie's mom, Julie Petrucelli, said, "I cannot tell you how touching, moving and truly awestruck I have been to see a group of children work so hard to raise over

Working to Help Others through Lemonade Sales

$2,500! It is a testament to the diligence of these children and the support of the awesome community we live in!" More recently the popular lemonade stand has moved near the roundabout in front of The UT Golf Club where the increased traffic has resulted in much higher sales. Kate, Caroline along with friends Maya Vogdes, Maddie and Taylor Rice, Chloe and Ava Reeve began a new mission to raise funds for paralyzed people suffering from multiple sclerosis. This time, their inspiration came

from a favorite 5th grade teacher at River Ridge Elementary named Adam

Ladner. Mr. Ladner told his students about his upcoming participation in the MS150, a two day fun-draising cycling ride from Houston to Austin on April 18th and 19th. The event is organized by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and the purpose of the ride is to raise awareness and funds for MS research. The girls were so

impressed by Mr. Ladner's goal that they wanted to help. So, with brightly colored signs, singing and dancing, the adorable group of budding philanthropists set up in front of the club and has raised $75 so far to donate to the MS150 through Mr. Ladner.

Maya said, "We only charge 50 cents per cup. Most people are super generous and give us $10 or more and tell us to keep the change." The girls proudly tell of the positive reactions they get from customers who are impressed by their generous hearts. "People have hugged us and told us 'you are the most wonderful children ever!' when they learn what we do with the money we raise," said Caroline.

The girls plan to continue their lemonade business on various weekends and over the summer. So, next time you drive by and see these enthusiastic young ladies, stop for a cup of lem-onade that has purpose far beyond just quenching your thirst. "Our goal is to raise at least $5,000 total by the end of 2015," said Chloe.

UTCommunity BuzzGOLF

Since 2005 as a member of the UT Golf Club and as one of the first homeowners in the Eagles Glen section, OnBuzz CEO Alan Elias has done dozens of business deals at UT Golf events and on the course itself. Golf is a natural connection point for business and the UT Golf Club stands alone as the premier spot in Austin to make connections.

But on February 18th, Alan gathered many of his UT Golf Community friends and business relationships to do something much more important than just another business deal. This time it was about making a difference in the Austin community and eventu-ally around the world. A chance to “move mountains” together. Alan and his company, OnBuzz, hosted a pre-release private screening of the movie, Little Boy, at the nearby Moviehouse & Eatery for 100 of Austin’s biggest movers and shakers, many who reside in the UT Golf Community. Little Boy is a powerful and moving film about a little boy who is willing to do whatever it takes, even if he needs to move mountains to bring his dad home from World War II alive. The heartwarming story reveals the indescribable love a father and son have for each other. Set in the 1940s, Little Boy is an instant cin-ematic classic that captures the wonder of life through the eyes of a 7-year-old little boy highlighting themes of faith, hope and love in the face of adversity.

But Little Boy is more than just a powerfully moving film. It is the catalyst to a revolutionary approach to film financing, marketing and distribution pioneered by Elias’ firm, OnBuzz.

OnBuzz is a film financing, production, marketing and distribution company based in Austin, Texas. Their films not only touch the soul, they break new ground, educate and motivate audiences to take action. Their innovative cause-based approach to film marketing unites the film industry with social issues to connect with the moviegoer at a deeper level.

The initiative by OnBuzz for Little Boy is to encourage moviegoers to watch the film and complete acts of kindness, ultimately turning the movie into a movement.

OnBuzz will be sponsoring red-carpet premieres around the country prior to Little Boy’s national release on April 24th. The UT Golf Community will be invited to attend.

Little Boy is directed by Smithsonian Institute Award winning director Ale-jandro Monteverde and was derived from a screenplay by Monteverde and Pepe Portillo. The film was executive produced by Roma Downey and Mark Burnett and produced by Alan’s good friend, the pop-ular Mexico actor, Eduardo Verástegui. Little Boy is destined for national success.

MONTHDropping Time And Rewarding Results Jade Federlin

NeighborhoodNews

In the pool, life is cool and swimmers rule! What a great mindset for a sport reportedly to have “more kicks than a soccer player; more laps than a runner; and more sets than a basketball player.” Just ask Jade Federlin, swim team member for the Vandegrift High School Vipers, Nitro Swimming, and the Steiner Ranch Stars. Jade and her teammates are in the pool daily doing kick after kick, lap after lap, and set after set to shave milliseconds off their timing. In swimming not only are timing, speed and form essential but also determination and hard work are absolute necessities.

According to Jade’s mom Stephanie Federlin, her daughter “didn’t just jump into the pool at age 6 and stand out as a superstar. She worked hard all year-long and continued to make steady improve-ments every season.” It was not until middle school that the fruits of her labor began to present themselves.

Jade began her swimming career 11 years ago with the Steiner Ranch Stars, the local neighborhood swim team. Over the years, she has won numerous high point awards, as well as sportsman-ship awards from resident Coach Kay Gerken. Today Jade continues her affili-ation with the program and for the past few years Jade has been a student-coach volunteer for the Stars. Jade’s advice to youngsters who may have an interest in

swimming is really quite simple. She says to “sign up for your local swimming league and try it a few times. Don’t expect to be the fastest right off the bat. It can take a lot of training to become the swimmer of your dreams. It is a tough mental sport and not for the faint of heart, but it is also filled with so many personal rewards.”

It was not long after her beginnings with Steiner Stars that Jade began her associa-tion with Nitro Swimming, one of the most reputable swim clubs in Texas. She is a proud member of its national swim team. According to Jade, competing at the Junior Nationals was definitely

a highlight in her young career. Jade admits that her favorite teacher is her Nitro swim coach, Tim O’Brien, who “challenges me both physically and men-tally” so that she can continually improve as an athlete to compete at the highest level. As a result of her continued hard

work, College Swimming currently ranks Jade as 19th in the state for the 2016 women’s swim class.

Jade Federlin is not only a gifted athlete but she is also an out-standing student. At Vandegrift High School, she is a member of the prestigious National Honor Society. But there is little doubt that, for Jade, the highlight of her time at Vandegrift so far was when she was a part of the women’s 200 medley relay swimming team that won 1st place in the state tournament last year. Together, with relay teammates Sammie Bassman, Madi-son Ibrahim, and Hannah Palacios, the team came within hun-dredths of a second of breaking the UT pool record and within a second of breaking the All-American record for the women’s 200 medley. Their relay team certainly relates to the famous quote by Olympic swimmer, Dara Torres, when she remarked, “Swimmers know full well that every second has a beginning, a middle and an end.” Jade's team’s 1st place win will be forever chronicled in the VHS record books as the school’s first ever state championship sports title.

So, what has Jade learned from her years of swimming? In her own words, Jade said, “I have learned the value of hard work, sticking to a dream, great sportsmanship, and definitely time management skills.” And when asked what she likes most about the sport of swimming Jade declared, “Winning would be the obvious answer but being able to work hard every day and drop time is the ultimate thrill! I get to meet new people from all over and I have created bonds that will last a lifetime. No one understands the intensity and difficulty of the sport like another swimmer.”

Jade’s days are fairly typical for a young, hard-working athlete. School and swimming as well as time for family and a social life fill her busy schedule. But Jade is thinking ahead about her future as well. With great enthusiasm, Jade said, "After gradua-tion, I plan on majoring in computer engineering. My goal is to swim at a Division 1 college and use that as my stepping stone to a fabulous degree. I will work really hard the next two years to achieve this dream.”

The Federlin family is most proud of hearing comments like “Jade is such a hard worker, team leader, and cheerleader for others." They believe that Jade is living proof that besides tim-ing, speed, and form, it is stellar determination and good sports-manship that makes their daughter not only a swimming super-star but also a successful, young woman emulated by others. Jade’s favorite quote seems to say it all, “If you can take it, you can make it.” Swim on young swimmer and enjoy the journey!

meet yourNeighbor Reddy For Family Time

The Reddy family relocated to the UT Golf Club neighborhood eight years ago and immediately became involved in the active lifestyle of this special community. Uttam, Anu, Kayan and Dhillon live life to the fullest by working hard, playing hard and by always keeping family quality time a top priority.

Uttam and Anu were both born in Hyderabad, India. Uttam's family moved to New York city when he was five years old while Anu grew up in India and later came to the United States to attend college. In their families' culture, it is common for parents to arrange marriage for their children and Uttam and Anu's parents certainly knew what they were doing when they introduced these two. They met in New York and recognized that although their personalities were strikingly different, they actually complemented each other perfectly. Anu said, "Arranged marriage isn't necessarily what people think. We were not forced to marry each other like stories from the olden days. Our parents simply arranged our introduction." Now, after twenty years of marriage and two fantastic kids, Uttam and Anu are commonly known to be one of the happiest and most popular couples in the neighborhood.

They moved to Austin fifteen years ago from Raleigh, North Carolina for both of them to take on career opportunities with Dell. Since then, they've seen tremendous growth in the city, along with personal growth in their families and careers. Their son Kayan is now ten years old and is finishing his final year at River Ridge Elementary and looks forward to attending middle school next year. He swims competitively year around and is a proud member of the Steiner Stars Red swim team. Their eight year old son Dhillon also attends River Ridge as a third grader and enjoys playing every neighborhood sport possible, with his favorites being flag football and golf.

Uttam is now working for Centurylink as their Sales Strategy Director. In his spare time, he can be found at the club work-ing on his golf game. He is also an avid runner and recently finished the 3M 1/2 marathon. For many years, he has par-ticipated in The Race to the Sun Overnight Relay Run from Enchanted Rock (near Fredericksburg) to Austin with neigh-borhood friends, which is surely quite an adventure. Both Uttam and Anu are passionate and dedicated college basketball fans. He cheers for his alma mater, Duke, as she cheers for hers, University of North Carolina. Things get interesting when their teams play each other since that game is commonly known to be the hottest rivalry in college basketball.

Anu enjoys her role with nearby VMWare as a Sales Operations Specialist and still has plenty of energy to volunteer at the ele-

mentary school, shuttle the kids to activities, and participate in a local book club. Always the fashionable socialite, Anu enjoys meeting new neighbors and attending area events. She says that she always looks forward to a girls' night out or date night with Uttam to try new restaurants downtown. "Recently, our favorite downtown places to go are Salty Sow, Odd Duck and South Congress Cafe," said Anu.

Although their schedules stay full, Anu and Uttam excel at des-ignating time to be together with the kids. Whether they are attending the boys' sporting events, playing golf as a foursome or tennis doubles together, they stay active as a cohesive fam-ily. They have many distinctive family traditions that keep them

close and assure that quality time doesn't get overlooked. Anu stresses the importance of family dinners on weeknights to stay updated with each other's busy lives. Dinner conversation is always interesting as each of them contribute news from their day by referencing a "rose" (a good moment,) a "bud" (some-thing to improve upon and a "thorn" (something bad.) On most Wednesday evenings, the family can be found at the UT Golf Club for Family Night dinner and activities with other neighborhood families. During Longhorn football season, the Reddys try not to miss a Friday night tailgate party at the club, which are always fun for both adults and kids. Sundays have special classification for the Reddy's calendar as "Sunday Fun Day" where the rule is to tune into doing something together as a family while tuning out all of their electronic devices and other distractions. Although this can be a tough challenge in today's technology obsessed world, the boys realize the value by the end of the day as they reflect on their focused time together over their favorite Boston rolls during "Sushi Sunday" dinner at Cho. An additional, admirable activity they routinely do together is work to help others in need by volunteering for The United Way. Anu is the co-chair for The United Way Women's Leadership Council and stays apprised of community needs in which her family can assist.

Staying in tune with life and cultures outside of our "Ranch" is also important to the Reddys. They've made some impres-

sive international trips that included Thailand, Dubai, Berlin, Brussels, Vienna, Budapest, Amsterdam and Zurich. While the boys' favorite experiences abroad were probably riding camels in the desert or snow skiing inside of an elaborate mall in Dubai, Anu and Uttam say one of their best travel experiences was attending Oktoberfest in Munich. As for the future, the couple says, "we can't wait to retire early so we can get on the golf course and tennis court every day!" The many wonderful features of the UTGC neighborhood fit into the Reddy's lifestyle perfectly. Uttam said, "We love our neighborhood so much and wish we would have moved here sooner!" They list their three favorite things about the area as the sense of community, the great nearby restaurants and the endless activities available.

The Reddy family offers a lot back to our community with their zest for life and strong family values. If you don't know them already, introduce yourself to this charming family.

Jacy Angelle & J Angelle Luxury Travel

For Jacy Ángelle, travel is not only her business, but her passion. She is the owner and CEO of J Ángelle Luxury Travel, an affiliate of The Travel Society, a Virtuoso member agency. Tailor made travel is her specialty, and the creativity she applies to achieve her clients’ vision is unmatched. Zest for travel has her design unique, out-of-the-box excursions. Ms. Ángelle is imaginative and adept in assisting with the planning of bespoke and memorable experiences. She says that it’s about creating atmospheres and environments for her clientele, not just securing the itinerary. It’s about invaluable experiential moments. As a DISC Certified Behavioral Analyst, Certified Life Coach, and former board member of an international non-profit, Ms. Ángelle uses experience and insight when customizing travel for clients. Whether the desire is tranquil, robust, or refined, she partners closely to design life-enriching opportunities. Fueled with zeal for adventure, food, wine, culture, and history, Jacy strives to provide inspiring and exquisite journeys for her clientele.

As a native Texan growing up in Houston, Jacy anticipated exploring places beyond the boundaries of our expansive state.

She dreamed of viewing the Sistine Chapel, hiking through a rainforest, and sitting outside of a Parisian cafe, sipping on cap-puccino, just to name a few. Having experienced these opportu-nities, she hasn’t stopped dreaming and planning new excursions for herself. Ms. Ángelle says she sees God when she travels, and believes that no matter where you go in the world, we are all uniquely the same. A few destinations at the top of her list now, are Patagonia, Macchu Pichcu, and Morocco. She’s currently planning an, “Eat, Pray, Love” type journey to coincide with her 40th birthday this summer.

As a travel advisor/designer, Ms. Ángelle is also an accom-plished businesswoman. She was previous co-owner, photogra-pher, and marketing and creative design director of an Austin-based travel photography business she started after moving to Austin in early 2007. Ms. Ángelle helped build the company starting from art vendor in the SoCo District, on to success in national and international markets. Part of her intrigue was planning every trip that would be photographed. The challenge

of capturing each destination, based around what she wanted to achieve became a fascination. After selling her business in 2012, she wanted to remain in the travel industry. Using the skills she honed from planning for her own travels, she decided to offer this expertise to the public. That’s when she became a Virtuoso member advisor and started J Ángelle Luxury Travel. Her affili-ation with Virtuoso is something she feels honored to be a part of, as it is the most distinguished consortium in the luxury travel market. This affords her clients the best in travel worldwide, including exclusive amenities and access to the most prestigious suppliers around the world. .Her industry relationships are extensive, and Ms. Ángelle attends Virtuoso Travel Week and attended ILTM Cannes in 2013, as she values these relation-ships highly. Staying connected and up to date in the luxury travel market is a top priority to her. The partnerships made and strengthened at these events prove essential in continuing to make an impact with her clients.

Outside of travel, Jacy’s other passions are her three sons, Chris-tian, Zane, and Jude. Christian is a 2014 graduate of Lake Travis High School, and a Freshman at Vanguard University in Costa Mesa, California. He’s taken after his mother, and has the “travel bug”. He’s majoring in International Business and will be studying for a semester in China next year. Zane is an eighth grader at Hudson Bend Middle School, and enjoys foot-

ball. His favorite trips are in their airstream, exploring all that our country has to offer. Jude is a fourth grader at Lake Travis Elementary and enjoys basketball and all things electronic. His favorite destination is Colorado, as he is quite the gifted skier. Giving back is something close to Ms. Ángelle’s heart. The opportunity to travel and experience other cultures around the globe is infinitely rewarding. She values learning and growing through this process, and is privileged to give back locally, and internationally. It’s her belief that you can make a lasting impact on the lives of others when exploring the world. Ms. Ángelle has partnered with philanthropic organizations to offer oppor-tunities for her clients to give back. She is in the infancy stages of developing her own foundation in which she will give a por-tion of her sales to. If you are interested in learning more about how to incorporate a philanthropic aspect to enrich your travel experience, Jacy would love to help make that happen.

Dinner With the Elias Family

Around the neighborhood, Dawn is known as a sweet friend and talented cook whose delicious dinners thrill even the pickiest kids. So this month we are sharing two of her most popular recipes. Enjoy!

Vegetarian Taco Lasagna1 15oz can of black beans, rinsed and drained1 14 1/2 oz can of Rotel tomatoes and green chiles1 packet of taco seasoning, hot or mild depending on taste. 2/3 cup water6 flour tortillas (8 inches)1 can (16 oz) of refried beans3 cups freshly shredded or packaged shredded

Extra Sharp cheddar cheese mixed with Mon-terey Jack cheese.

*For meat lovers, you can always add a pound of cooked ground beef or shredded chicken.

Simmer black beans, diced tomatoes, water and taco seasoning over medium heat in a medium sized skillet. Cook uncovered for at least 10 minutes or until nice and warm. (* If you'd like, add the cooked beef or chicken now.)

Spray cooking oil in a 13x9x2 baking dish. Take a small amount of the refried beans and bean and tomato mixture and spread on the bottom of the pan. Place 2 of the tortillas, half of the refried beans, half of the bean and tomato mixture and half of the

mixed cheese on top. Repeat another layer. Then add the last two tortillas on top and the remainder of the cheese. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until heated through and cheese is melted. Garnish with your favorite salsa, Pico de Gallo, fresh chunks of avocado and/ or a dollop of sour cream. Makes 9 servings.

"World Famous" Cookies"It's basically just a twist on the old Toll House recipe that I tweaked a little because my kids hate nuts, I simply add different chips instead," said Dawn.1 1/2 sticks butter1 1/4 cup brown sugar2 Tbsps. milk1 Tbsp. vanilla1 egg1 3/4 cup all-purpose flour1 tsp. salt3/4 tsp. baking soda1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips1 cup butterscotch chips1 cup heath chips

recipes:residentThe Elias family built one of the very first homes in the UT Golf Club section of Eagle's Glen back in 2005 and have enjoyed watching the community grow. Dawn said, "My family and I love this place we call home!" Dawn is a multi-tasking mom of two teenagers, Jakob and Brianna, who both attend Vandegrift High School. She also works diligently along side her husband Alan as they expand their film company, OnBuzz, which has an admirable and sharp focus on entertainment that emphasizes family values.

Cream butter, brown sugar, milk and vanilla in large bowl and blend in the egg. Add flour, salt and baking soda gradually until mixed thoroughly. Add chocolate chips, heath chips and butterscotch chips. Drop a rounded tablespoon of mixture 3 inches apart on an un greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 10-13 minutes depending on if you like your cookies chewy or crispy.

Enjoy UT Golf Community!

precious petsA Distinctive Dog, Jack Caldwell

The Caldwell family built a beautiful home overlooking the course of the UT Golf Club and moved in during November of 2007. John and Marnie Caldwell are the proud parents of three great kids, Cameron, Kate and Caroline. An additional family member, a very special dog named Jack, fits into their lifestyle perfectly.

Jack, a five year old Jack Russell Terrier, might not have the most unique name but he most certainly has a unique personal-ity! The Caldwell's previous dog was also a Jack Russell Terrier named Jack. They thought the name was equally fitting for this dog too.

Friendly and energetic, Jack is known for his smile. Seriously! This dog exudes happiness. He is always loving, sweet and pro-tective of his family and is welcoming to guests. Although he

tends to bark at golfers from the backyard, Marnie says, "He's just being social."

He's an athletic swimmer and is able to independently amuse himself by throwing his football into the pool and then jump-ing into the water to fetch it. Marnie said, "Jack can entertain himself in the pool for hours, but he also loves his regular playdates with another neighborhood dog named Ace Cooley." When there are a lot of kids jumping in the pool, he becomes protective and nervously tries to rescue them "as if he is the life guard," claims Caroline (pictured with Jack). His feisty rescue efforts sometimes inadvertently result in scratching the kids, but he is always forgiven.

Jack is a brave adventurer but is fearful of loud noises and another Caldwell pet, a cat named Big Mama. They try to keep out of each other's way.

In addition to his unique personality, Jack has a unique diet. His favorite treats are Robertson's beef jerky and his favorite dinner is spaghetti.

One of the country’s top spots for tourism, the area around the Arenal Volcano offers more than a dozen bathing facilities, many of which feature amenities like swim-up bars, water slides, and tropical cocktails. While a few of the hot springs are only open for day visits, others are incorporated into hotels that allow guests round-the-clock access. It doesn’t get much better than a relaxing, after-dinner dip on a romantic getaway.

Hot Springs

While it might come as a surprise to some visitors, Arenal is not the only place to soak until your fingers turn to prunes. Newer outlets in Guanacaste surrounding the Rincón de la Vie-ja and Miravalles Volcanoes are also worth a visit, and in this region, baths in volcanic mud are very popular. Guests slather themselves in the mineral-rich mud, which then hardens and can be washed off after yet another dip in the hot springs.

T a b a c o n G r a n d S p a a n d T h e r m a l R e s o r tTabacon was the first hot springs facility in Costa Rica, and it remains the most impressive. Its two natural rivers are divided into dozens of bathing areas, and if you wander around enough, you’ll find secret bars and private spaces. Oh yeah, and there’s a

waterslide and a swim-up bar with yummy cocktails.

R i o P e r d i d oA slightly newer site, Rio Perdidio is tucked

behind Bagaces, a little-explored mountain town in the foothills of the Miravalles Volcano on the way to Guanacaste. The springs here are totally natural and the setting is wildly picturesque, with warm green water surrounded by dry forest

and incredible rock formations.

T h e S p r i n g sSet back from the Arenal Volcano, this mag-

nificent hotel and its sprawling grounds are the mecca of hot springs. There are more than a dozen pools

to choose from, some of which feature water slides and swim-up bars. Although the water is pumped in, these pools are as therapeutic as any.

E c o T e r m a l e s H o t S p r i n g sFor a more intimate hot springs experience, Eco Termales is a smaller facility in the Arenal area that is solely focused on its baths. The space around the pools teems with flora and fauna; I once floated on my back for 20 minutes here watching a toucan fly from one tree to another overhead. The on-site restaurant is also delicious.

V a n d a r a H o t S p r i n g s a n d A d v e n t u r eHeated by Rincón de la Vieja, this hot springs and adventure facility includes zip-lining, horseback riding, and a giant water-slide. After you’ve finished with the activities, it’s time for a dip in the Tizate hot springs, man-made pools filled with thermal waters heated by the nearby volcano. Mud baths and mineral treatments are also available.
