BATTALIONS

The FCFM 5 deals with the various kinds of battalions that are available within the USJTF formations and

that are not Special Warfare formations: FCFM 5 replaces the former FCFM v1.0 Battalion organization

which showed itself not adapted to the current USJTF general organization.

BATTALION GENERALITIES

USJTF Battalion

USJTF Battalions are modular units resectioning many companies. One USJTF Battalion has to be able to

manage any situation by using optimally its strengths. FCFM 5-1 deals with the “Standard” USJTF

Battalion, commonly known just as the USJTF Battalion. Use of the adjective “Standard” has been chosen

to prevent any miscomprehension that may appear when FCFM 5-2 “Motorized BN” will be released.

Composition

The Battalion is led by a Battalion commander, usually a Major. To help him, he has the Battalion Senior

NCO. The Battalion Senior NCO acts as both a RTO, to communicate with the battalion companies, and

an adviser, as a veteran from many games. The Battalion includes two or more USJTF Companies. The

companies can be either Infantry or Reconnaissance.

Battalion Commanding Officer

Rank: Major – can be a Lieutenant Colonel

The Battalion commander is responsible for the welfare of their men, and also responsible for all training

and command decisions that are used and implemented within his Battalion. The BN commander holds

two distinct responsibilities, the first being the commanding of their troops on the Airsoft field, the second

being administration and guidance regarding all aspects of their companies’ operations, and the

dissemination of information in both combat and garrison. The Battalion commander is first in the chain

of command for his Battalion.

BN Senior Enlisted Advisor

Rank: First Sergeant – can be a Master Sergeant as senior MSG of the Company

The battalion senior NCO is a BN’s senior enlisted advisor of their outfit. The Battalion Senior NCO is

responsible for the welfare of their men and for all training and enforcing command decisions and

standards that are used and implemented within their Battalion. The Battalion Senior NCO is the enforcer

of standards and the eyes and ears of the Battalion Commanding Officer.

The Battalion Senior NCO observes their troops on the Airsoft field for their morale and welfare, provides

administration and guidance regarding all aspects of their BN’s operations, and disseminates information

in combat and in garrison. He or she works as the BN Commanding Officer’s RTO. The Battalion Senior

NCO works directly with the USJTF Sergeant Major. The Battalion Senior NCO is first in the chain of

command in the enlisted corps for his or her battalion.

Types

USJTF Battalions are modular units resectioning many companies. Depending on what kind of companies

it resections, a standard battalion can be classed as Infantry, Reconnaissance or Special Warfare. These

types are supposed to help senior officers planning games on the battlefield map.

INFANTRY BATTALION

Guidance

These are guide lines about how to choose the type of a battalion. However, USJTF Commanders

have to choose wise, considering how many men they have in each of their companies.

If the majority of a battalion companies are Infantry ones, then the battalion is called Infantry battalion

(First KS/MO Battalion, KS/MO Brigade, Second Cavalry Division).

If a battalion counts about as many Infantry Companies as SpecWar ones and just a few Recon

Companies, then it is an Infantry Battalion too (“Geaux” Battalion, TX/LA Brigade, First Infantry

Division).

RECONNAISSANCE BATTALION

Guidance

These are guide lines about how to choose the type of a battalion. However, USJTF Commanders

have to choose wise, considering how many men they have in each of their companies.

If the majority of a battalion companies are Reconnaissance ones, then the battalion is called

Reconnaissance battalion (“Semper Paratus” Battalion, TX/LA Brigade, First Infantry Division).

If a battalion counts about as many Reconnaissance Companies as SpecWar ones and just a few Infantry

Companies, then it is a Reconnaissance Battalion too (no current example in the task force).

Note the last example; the battalion could have been an Infantry one, see FCFM 5-1.2. The BN

Commanding Officer may have noticed that its Infantry Companies count to few men to justify an

Infantry Battalion.

SPECIAL WARFARE BATTALION

Guidance

These are guide lines about how to choose the type of a battalion. However, USJTF Commanders

have to choose wise, considering how many men they have in each of their companies.

If the about 70% of a battalion companies are SpecWar ones, then the battalion is called Special Warfare

Battalion (no current example in the task force).
