Using the elements of art and principles of design
In free from sculptures
What are the Elements of art
• They are tools that help an artists get across an idea
• Line, shape, texture, value, color, form and space
• We are looking at Space and FORM. • You will choose one other one to use on
your sculpture
What are the principles of design?
• These are used to help organize your thoughts, ideas or images.
• They are repetition, balance, movement, unity, proportion (size)pattern and movement.
What are free form sculptures
• Well, there are different types of art. Functional, non functional, realistic and non-objective. This type of sculpture is non-objective or non-representational
• Its part of the modern art movement• Involves the imagination
Modern art and non-objective art
• The visual art of the modern period constantly reinvented itself in search of the new. What was truly new in the early 20th century was the thought that art was just art and some felt art help a purpose (meaning). This view of art, subjective and expressive, led to the dismantling of subject matter, for what was represented mattered less than the manner of representation or the person responsible for it. Meaning artists began to focus on the viewer and how he/she responded to it.
Here are some samples
Using value
• You may want to blend colors from top tobottom or bottom to top
Using lines
• You may want to add lines, creating a pattern
You may want to use shapes
• You can use different shapes in all KINDS of ways …here are some
You may want to use texture
• You can create a texture doing different types of painting styles….
Then again you may want to add objects to create texture…
