Why Technology?

• Students are in an active role rather than a passive role when technology is integrated in the classroom

• Students are actively making choices about how to generate, obtain, manipulate, or display information

• When students use technology for support, they are in the position of defining their goals, making design decisions, and evaluating their progress

Why Technology?(continued)

• The teacher is no longer the center of attention as the dispenser of information, but rather plays the role of facilitator, setting project goals and providing guidelines and resources, moving from student to student or group to group, providing suggestions and support for student activity

• Student satisfaction with the immediate feedback provided by the computer and the sense of accomplishment and power gained by working with technology

Collaborating with Peers

• One major advantage of technology use in classrooms is an increased inclination among students to work cooperatively and provide peer tutoring

• Public display and greater legibility of student work creates an invitation to comment

• Some software applications are specifically designed to allow students to collaborate on substantive content
