Using Safari on Your iPhone

• Over the past couple of years, I have I found some ways to improve your mobile browsing experience. Please check out the following slides for some useful tips.

• (Other iPhone friendly browsers have become available- most notably Firefox. It is my understanding that these alternate browsers are using the same Apple framework and underlying architecture as Safari. So I will just cover the standard Safari browser for now.)

• For more tips to help you get more stuff done, please consult my recent eBook, How Did You Do That? A Practical Guide for Your iPhone.

Safari on Your iPhone• Click the Safari icon to start the app.

• The first thing to do is to set up some bookmarks for my favorite sites. Having to type in site addresses while on a mobile phone is still pretty clunky.

• In the screen shot to the right, I touched the oval window in the upper right of the screen to start an internet search. (The default search engine is Google and I have left that as the default as it is my preferred search engine.) Type in the name, web address or url and Google will then serve up your results and present what you are looking for.

Bookmarking Sites in Safari• Once you have reached a site through this

method, you can then bookmark it.

• To bookmark, hit the center button at the bottom of the screen with the arrow pointing right. This action will bring up the add bookmark screen.

• Click the Add Bookmark button and you are all set.

• Once you fire up your browser and you want to access your bookmark list, hit the Bookmark button just to the right of the center arrow button. This will bring up your Bookmarks. Just click on any bookmark to get to the site. This makes it much easier to navigate the internet while using your iPhone.

Working With Multiple Sessions in Safari

• If you hit the button at the far right at the bottom of the screen (the number on that button indicates the number of Safari pages that are currently open,) it will bring up the screen to the right. When you hit the New Page button, a blank new page will appear. To navigate your open pages, just slide the page left or right to view the desired page- touch it and the page will expand to full size.

• If you would like to close any of your open pages, hit the red x circle in the upper left of any page while it is in the small view.

• The series of dots in the middle center of the screen, aid in navigation. The white dot indicates the active page as well as how many Safari pages are open. (When you navigate your active web page left or right, the white dot will move accordingly.)

• The circular arrow in the address window at the top of the browser will refresh the current web page.
