Decision Trees are an important tool in any business' decision-making tool-kit. MindManager offers a convenient software interface for managing this process. This slideshow explores setting up and using Mindjet's MindManager 2012 for Decision Trees. The setup requires quite a lot of adjustments in formatting and layout. It is also important to understand how to create "Map Parts" which can be used over and over again.

The Key is in the Map Parts!

The first key is to get the appropriate “Growth” Direction…
To start with a more boxy Central Focus…
And to achieve the straight lines look…
To make sure your options are on straight lines, not boxes…
Save as Default them for Map at each format stage…
To get reusable empty boxes as the code for ‘Decision to be made’ and empty circles for ‘uncertain result from decision’ we will need to create Map Parts…
Creating a new folder…
Naming a new folder…
Creating the ‘uncertain’ symbol (a circle) as a Map Part…
Right click inside the topic “expand portfolio”… This is so that we can get the circle we create close to the topic
Choosing the Circle…
Click inside the Subtopic then add three spaces so that MindManager thinks it has content but also so that the centre of the circle will appear blank on the map…
If you make a mistake (as I did) it’s easy to swap Map Parts…
I’d rather have the Circle here…
Evaluating Options and Outomes… Here, I’m thinking of the probabilities around percentage of business generated.
Attach costs to options and outcomes… I’ve chose to use Callouts for this. Shortcut: [Cntrl]+[Shift]+[Return]
Comparing development costs with percentage of likely business, I have some clear winners…
Now I can use MindManager to Prioritise…
