Getting started

First, you will be prompted to select a theme for your presentation. They range from basic to ornate and provide a color scheme for your entire presentation. Choose from the option available.

Naming and saving

To name your presentation, double click on the Untitled Presentation box. A smaller Rename document box will appear. Type in your desired title and select OK. You will never have to remember to hit save – GoogleDocs does it for you. Whenever a change is made, it will save it automatically.

Typing it out

The rest should be easy if you’ve used a presentation software like PowerPoint before. Type the titles and text in the appropriate boxes and follow the “click to type here” prompts. Here is a sample title slide.

Adding Slides

Use the slide tab on the menu bar to add or duplicate slides and select new layouts. If you don’t like the theme you chose, you can change that here too.

Saving and Sharing

Use the file tab to share, copy, rename or download your presentation when it is done. You can download it as a PowerPoint file, image files, or just share the link to Google Presentations with your peers.

Opening in PowerPoint

If you save your Google Presentation as a PowerPoint File, it should open in a current version of PowerPoint without any issues. Be sure that when you download the file, it is in a correct format for your version of PowerPoint to open. Older programs may have difficulty opening the pptx file format.
