We talk to Jehanzeb Navid, Business and ICT Manager, who led the implementation of DoodleMaths. ‘‘In school, we use DoodleMaths in a number of ways including lunchtime and early morning clubs, mental maths starters, changeover time between teachers and during wet play. Outside school, it is used as part of the children’s homework.” “The children think it’s an easy way to learn. They love the pets, earning stars and competing within the school and nationally. Parents love that their children are carrying out work on their own and that they enjoy using DoodleMaths at home as well as at school.” Every year 6 child earning in the last two years achieved their expected level or above. Many of the students have quicker arithmetic and have made improvements in mental recall. In the summer of 2018 some analysis was done to correlate children’s Year 6 value added with the number of questions they had answered in DoodleMaths over the previous two years. The results were highly significant - there was a strong correlation, and not a single child who had answered over 8000 questions in the two years before their SATs had negative value added.” Using DoodleMaths for homework and in class “DoodleMaths allows students to work independently and take control of their learning.
