THE USES OF APPLE CIDER VINEGAR

Arthritis Use the cider vinegar and honey treatment for arthritis and also apply cider vinegarexternally to painful joints. This entails drinking a glass of water with two teaspoons of

cider vinegar and two teaspoons of honey three times a day.Local treatment can also be given by soaking the arthritic hand, or foot in a strong, comfortably hot solution of cider vinegar for ten minutes, two or three times a day - (aquarter of a cup of cider vinegar to one and a half cups of water). Arthritic knees can beattended to by making a poultice - soak the cloth in a mixture of cider vinegar and water,(as per above mixture) wring out and wrap it around the joint, then secure with a drycloth to retain heat. When the wet cloth cools, it should be wrung out in the hot solutionand applied afresh. Repeat several times, twice daily.

 Asthma

One tablespoonful of cider vinegar added to a glass of water should be taken in sips forhalf an hour. After a further half an hour has elapsed the treatment should be repeated. The wheezing should lessen in intensity quite considerably. However, should wheezingstill persist a second glass of the same mixture should be taken. Deep breathingexercises are also a beneficial treatment.

AcneMake up a solution of two tablespoons of white vinegar with one cup of boiled, cooledwater. Dab the solution on the affected area several times a day. Always wash the skinbefore applying.

AntisepticUse a good quality white spirit vinegar for all round use.

Anxiety AttacksPick a bunch of lavender and place the flowers in a bowl with 57Oml (20fl oz) of cidervinegar so that the fragrance can fill the air.

Athlete's Foot For quick relief rinse the feet with apple cider vinegar several times a day. Always puton clean socks or stockings after rinsing. Soak used socks or stockings for half an hourin a solution of one part vinegar to five parts of water. Then wash in the normal way.

Bath TonicTo have a refreshing bath add 15Oml (6fl oz) of lavender vinegar.

Bee StingsFor relief dab the sting with herbal vinegar or apple cider vinegar.

Burns and SunburnTo relieve the pain from minor burns, pat cold vinegar on the effected area with a cleancotton-wool swab every twenty minutes.

Blood Loss

It has been discussed above how cider vinegar helps in preventing blood losses. In anycircumstances where the flow of blood is too free and is too persistent, such as when aperson has a nose bleed without any apparent reason, then two teaspoons of cidervinegar in a glass ofwater, three times a day will aid in restoring the natural clotting properties of the blood.

BonesThe manganese, magnesium, silicon (and calcium) found in apple cider vinegar hasbeen linked in sustaining bone mass, which is important in the fight againstosteoporosis. A supplement of apple cider vinegar could for this reason be valuable to

consider should you suffer from a calcium shortage, have a problem with osteoporosis,or if you are entering your postmenopausal stage, where a risk of bone loss could causea problem

Chapped HandsMake a paste of lanolin with a little vinegar added. Rub well into the skin.

CandidaAlthough there are different factors influencing the formation of candida (which is a

yeast infection) a disturbance of your diet, as well as an intake of antibiotics must belooked at when you experience such an episode of candida flare-up, since the yeastbalance in your body can be thrown out of sync by these two factors.

CholesterolA good warning system for heart disease is the presence of high blood cholesterol inthe system. To help prevent this is to follow a lifestyle which includes eating a diet highin fruits and vegetables, maintaining your ideal weight, getting enough exercise whileavoiding processedfoods, junk foods and hydrogenated oils. Another way is to add fibre to your diet, especially water-soluble fibre - such as the pectin found in apple cider vinegar. Water-soluble fibre soaks up water, which adds bulk, and interacts with your body, and alsokeeps on working longer than non water-soluble fibre. Fibre also soaks up fats andcholesterol in the body and then is excreted instead of being reabsorbed. Non water-soluble fibre soaks up moisture in the body, but cannot interact with the body. Theamino acids contained in apple cider vinegar have also shown promise in neutralizingsome of the harmful oxidized LDL cholesterol.

ColdsIt has been found that the pH factor (the acidity factor) of the body becomes a bit morealkaline prior to a cold or flu striking you down. When you take apple cider vinegar ithelps to rebalance the acid level of your body. Another remedy for colds and flu, andsaid to be specifically beneficialfor chest complaints during the winter, is to soak a piece of brown paper with apple

cider vinegar, and to place pepper on the one side of the paper. You then tie the paper, pepper side down, on to your chest and leave on for 25 - 30 minutes.

ConstipationNot having proper bowel movements is blamed for many illnesses and diseases thatbefall us. The logic behind it stating that should the waste products from our bodilyfunctions be retained in the body, for longer than what nature intends, it will causetoxins to be absorbed back into the system. As we age our bodies produce less andstart to lag behind in the manufacture of digestive acids (hydrochloric acid), pepsin anddigestive enzymes - which can cause constipation. When we add fibre to our diet, such

as the pectin in apple cider vinegar, we assist our body by having regular bowelmovements and proper elimination.

CrampsIf you have never woken up in the middle of the night with cramps tearing through yourcalves, feet or legs, you would not understand the agony. A useful remedy to assist withthis is to take apple cider vinegar. Make up a syrup consisting of one teaspoon ofhoney, one teaspoon cider vinegar and one tablespoon of calcium lactate. Take oneteaspoon once a day.

CoughsThere are many types of coughs for various reasons, and these should be treated withreference to their nature and intensity. However, the cider vinegar and honey treatmentwill prove an efficacious treatment in this respect. Two teaspoons of cider vinegar andtwo of honey mixed with a glassful of water should be taken before meals, or when theirritation occurs. In the evening it would be an idea to have this mixture by your bed sothat it can be sipped during the evening if anattack presents itself. To help bring fast relief to a tickly cough, make up a mixture ofone part

apple cider vinegar to two parts of honey. Take a teaspoon of the mixture whenever thecough begins to irritate. Shake the bottle well before taking.

Chronic FatigueSometimes we cannot overcome the desperate tiredness we feel in ourselves. Try apick-me-up with the following. Mix three teaspoons of cider vinegar with one cup ofhoney. Take two teaspoons at night before going to bed.

Cold SoresA virus, usually on the outside of your lips or mouth causes cold sores. Often it lingersfor a week or two and then eases. The direct method of treatment is to dab the affectedarea with gauze soaked in diluted white vinegar or witch hazel. It will help to dry out thesore, and will probably sting whilst doing

Corns and CallusesMake a paste with one teaspoon of vinegar and enough wholemeal flour to bind the

ingredients together. Place on the corn and cover with a slice of onion. Wrap a bandageround the foot and leave in place overnight. Use the same remedy to soften calluses, but omit the onion.

Dandruff Massage herb or lavender vinegar into the scalp before washing the hair. Repeat thisseveral times each week until it clears.

DiarrheaIt has been mentioned above how cider vinegar helps with the digestion, assimilationand elimination of food, and that it is an antiseptic to the intestines and the whole of thedigestive tract. Due to its healing properties, diarrhea can be controlled in a very shorttime, (that is unless some serious physical disorder is apparent). The treatment being, one teaspoonful of cider vinegar in a glass of water should be taken before and inbetween meals i.e. approximately six glasses during the course of the day. It should benoted, however, that diarrhea is a natural attempt on the part of the body to eliminatesome poison which is irritating the digestive tract, on no account should any drugs be

taken to suppress these healing symptoms – on the other hand the cider vinegar willlessen the intensity, but will allow the natural course of elimination to take place.

DizzinessTwo teaspoons of apple cider vinegar together with two teaspoons of honey in a glassof hot or cold water three times a day should help this annoying occurrence quiteconsiderably. However, one should never expect instant results, as nature works slowly, yet very effectively. You will notice a lessened intensity whilst you progress.

Ear DischargeThe treatment for this complaint, which usually occurs during childhood is: oneteaspoonful of cider vinegar in a glass of water to be taken mid morning and midafternoon. The discharge should shortly disappear.

Ear InfectionsMake up a solution of equal parts of vinegar and olive oil. Apply to the effected earusing a cotton wool bud soaked in the solution

EczemaTake the usual dosage of cider vinegar and honey in a glassful of water three times aday, with meals. An application of well diluted cider vinegar can also be applied to theskin several times daily i.e. one teaspoonful to half a cup of water. Under nocircumstances should salt be taken, as this aggravates the eczema conditionconsiderably. There is usually a potassium deficiency in those people suffering from

eczema.

Eyes - Tired and SoreThe cider vinegar therapy together with honey is the essential ingredients here. Twoteaspoons of each taken in a glassful of water, three times a day. This mixture retardsthe onset of tired and sore eyes, which are usually apparent in later life, as it suppliesthem with those vital elements essential to their health and functioning.

Fatigue

Chronic fatigue is a warning that the body needs some attention. Most people sufferingfrom chronic fatigue do not have enough good, sound sleep. Either they go to bed toolate, or they are one of those people who just need more sleep than most. It is better toget as many hours in bed before midnight as possible. To remedy a poor quality sleep, honey is highly recommended, as itacts as a sedative to the body. Twenty minutes after the honey has been taken into themouth it has been digested and absorbed into the body. This is because it is apredigested sugar, which has been digested in the stomach of the honeybee, andtherefore requires no effort on the part of the human stomach for digestion. Keep thefollowing mixture by your bedside to be taken as indicated: three teaspoons of applecider vinegar to a cup of honey. Take two teaspoons of the mixture before retiring. Thisshould induce sound sleep within an hour; if however, you have been unable to sleepwithin this period repeat the dosage.

Food PoisoningAs mentioned earlier there have been many cases where people who were in the habitof taking cider vinegar regularly never suffer any side effects from food poisoning. Thecider vinegar has an antiseptic quality which seems to render noxious food harmless.

Foot BathAdd half a cup of cider vinegar to two litres of hot water to ease aching feet.

Gallstones and Kidney StonesA theory exist that the acids found in apple cider vinegar are beneficial in breaking upkidney stones and gallstones, by softening or dissolving them. Although we cannotguarantee any results, since there are so many other influencing factors, it might beworth your while to supplement your diet with apple cider vinegar, should you besuffering from gallstones or kidney stones

Hair LossThe falling out of hair is primarily due to a tissue salt deficiency, thus cider vinegar withits 'wonder products' will re-establish a natural balance, and supply the deficiencieswhere needed. Therefore, by taking the cider vinegar treatment the hair will maintain itsnatural growth. It will cease to fall out and grow more rapidly and thickly. This will takeapproximately two months, so perseverance is needed. The dosage is one teaspoonful

of cider vinegar to a glass of water to be taken with or between meals. Cider vinegarcan also be used externally for the treatment of dandruff.

Hay FeverThis ailment is marked by watery eyes, sneezing and running nose, in other words thereis an excess of fluid that the body is drastically trying to offload. For an effective relief, honey and cider vinegar should be utilized which will bring excellent results. Atablespoonful of honey should be taken after each meal for approximately a fortnightbefore the onset of the hay-fever season. The ordinary dosage of cider vinegar andhoney should then be taken via: two teaspoons of cider

vinegar and two of honey in a glass of water, three times a day. This dosage should bemaintained during the entire hay-fever season.

HeadacheSoak the corner of a cotton handkerchief in white vinegar and hold to the nose for fiveminutes. Breath deeply to inhale the smell.

HeadachesThere are several types of headache, caused by various reasons. Some are associated

with organic disorders, such as kidney troubles, others are known as psychogenic, ortension headaches. Then we have the most annoying of all; the migraine headache. Many people have had relief from headaches by the use of honey. Two teaspoonstaken at each meal may well prevent an attack. Another effective means is to take applecider vinegar. Equal parts of cider vinegar and water should be placed in a small basinon the stove, allowing it to boil slowly. When the fumes begin to rise from the basin leanyour head over it until the fumes are comfortably strong. Inhale for approximately 50 to80 breaths. Generally this alleviates the headache considerably, if not entirely.

Heart Since apple cider vinegar is used to promote the health of veins and capillaries, it is byimplication also useful in assisting in the health of the heart and blood pressure. Thepotassium found in the apple cider vinegar is also beneficial to the heart.

HeartburnThis usually occurs after eating, sometimes up to two hours later. This very unpleasantfeeling can be alleviated by taking the usual dosage of cider vinegar and water beforemeals.

HemorrhagesAs previously pointed out cider vinegar helps the blood to clot more easily. When aperson who regularly drinks cider vinegar cuts himself, the wound will dry up almostinstantaneously, as there will be no profuse bleeding. If, however, wounds do not healquickly, the following procedure should be undertaken; two teaspoons of cider vinegartaken in half or a whole glass of water at mealtimes as well as in between, therefore six

glasses in all are imbibed. For extra efficiency a very weak solution of cider vinegar withwater can be applied to the sore, wound or cut.Poultices of cider vinegar (see instructions under the heading Arthritis) can be applied toa stubborn open wound.

High Blood PressureThere are a number of reasons why a person suffers from this common yet seriouscondition. As mentioned earlier, health will be maintained only if one is prepared toadjust his living and eating habits. Cider vinegar is not the cure-ail of man's suffering; itis only one of the many means towards a healthier and happier life. In the case of High

Blood Pressure, one's eating habits must be taken stock of to ensure a speedy andeffective recovery. Emphasis is on the natural, organically grown foods, which are givento us in the form of fresh fruits, vegetables and honey - rather than the high proteinfoods, which include eggs, meat, milk, cheese, nuts, beans etc.A balance must be maintained between the proteins and carbohydrates and one shoulddefinitely not over indulge on these protein and starchy foods. Wheat products shouldalso be eliminatedcompletely, together with salt, which is very detrimental to the health, especially forthose suffering from high blood pressure. The following dosage should be taken daily:two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar and honey in a glass of water - up to three to fourtimes a day.

Hair CleanserAfter washing the hair rinse in a solution of IOOml (4fl oz) of cider vinegar mixed with570ml (20fl oz) of warm water.

Hand CleanserWash the hands in vinegar, then rinse in water.

Hiccoughs - HiccupsThese have been known to be eradicated by drinking a teaspoon of cider vinegar neat!Alternatively cider vinegar with water can be taken before mealtimes to prevent thisoccurrence.

IndigestionWhen people start talking about indigestion they immediately start referring to the"excess" stomach acid that they have! In most cases it is NOT a case of an excess ofstomach acid, but a shortage of it. Hydrochloric acid and pepsin, an enzyme working inan acid environment, are needed to break down the food effectively, and a shortage ofthese two ingredients will lead to a sluggish digestion of food and resultant indigestion.

Taking apple cider vinegar may assist ineffecting a remedy.

IndigestionMake up a syrup with one tablespoon of vinegar with one tablespoon of honey.

Swallow a teaspoon of the syrup then slowly sip a cup of hot water. Take as often asnecessary.

It would also be beneficial to have a glass of this mixture by the bedside to sip ifneeded. Under no circumstances should drugs be resorted to, as these are bothharmful and habit-forming. Under severe cases, a naturopath or homeopath should beconsulted. If has been found that the prime cause of insomnia is due to a deficiency ofphosphate of potash and phosphate of iron; this combination can be found in thebiochemical salt known as kali phos, which can be obtained from your local health shop.

ImpetigoTreat impetigo with undiluted apple cider vinegar. Dab the affected area with a swab ofcotton-wool soaked in vinegar five times a day. Try not to touch the affected areas withthe hands for fear of spreading the infection to new parts of the skin. The skin shouldstart to clear up in three to four days.

IncontinenceSore skin brought about by incontinence can lead to the growth of unwanted bacteria. After bathing wipe the effected parts of the skin with 1 tablespoon white vinegar dilutedin 1 cup of warm water.

Kidneys and BladderDue to the eliminative nature of cider vinegar, the kidneys and bladder can benefittremendously by a 'flushing', which they receive when the following cider vinegartherapy is undertaken: two teaspoons of cider vinegar in a glass of water six times aday. It would be beneficial to drink a couple of glasses of water in the morning, takingone teaspoonful of cider vinegar in each drink. Comfrey tea, first thing in the morningwith a teaspoon of cider vinegar will also create a sufficient cleansing action.Inflammation of the kidneys, called pyelitis, in which pus cells are present in the urine,

metabolizing of proteins, fats and minerals. If the food cannot be broken down into theabsorbable form, the body cannot assimilate the required nutrients needed from thediet. An added extra to help with this is the malic acid and tartaric acid found in applecider vinegar, since they help to bring the acid content into balance, while killing offunwanted and unfriendly bacteria in the digestive tract.

Weight LossApple cider vinegar has been used as a weight loss remedy for centuries, and althoughthe mechanics are not always clear on how it works, it really does work. It has beensuggested that the apple cider vinegar works because it makes the body burn caloriesbetter, that it reduces the appetite or simply that it gets the entire metabolism working attop efficiency. But whatever the reason, the fact remains that it has stood the test of

time as a fat-busting supplement, and has helped countless people to achieve theirideal weight.
