Your player operates on a built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery.

See the Setup section forinstructions on how to set the automatic Power off option.

There are two ways to charge your player:

Your player will be charged while it is connected to a powered-oncomputer regardless of whether your player itself is powered on oroff . For ins tructions on how to connect your player to a computer,see the section inthi s manual.

When the A/C adapter is plugged into an electrical outlet,the red charge lamp will l ight up to indicate that power hasbeen connected. Connect the adapter to your p layer's USB por t.The green charge lamp will light up to ind icate that your player i sbeing charged. When charging is complete, the green chargelamp will d im or turn off.

When charging your player , make sure that the POWER ON/OFFswitch is set to the ON posit ion and that the automatic Power offoption in the Setup menu is set to "0 ".

Charge through your computer's USB port.

Charge through the provided A/C adapter.

Connecting/Disconnecting Your Player

If you are using , you must install the USB driverand update util ity.

Place the Installation CD in your computer's CD-ROM drive.In My Computer, double-click the disc drive (D:) icon (whereD: is your CD-ROM drive).Find and double-click "Win98Driver.exe" to start the installationprocess. A setup dialog window will appear on the screen.Follow the on-screen instructions. When setup is complete,restart your computer .

USB driver instal lation is not necessary i f you are usingWindows Me/2K/XP or Mac OS X version 10.2.6 or above. Simplyconnect your player to the computer; the operating system willthen tak e a moment to set up and a removable disk icon willappear in "My Computer." (For Mac OS X users, a removabledisk icon will appear on the "Desktop.")

To wake your player from sleep mode,press and hold the JOYSTICK SELECT key.

Set the POWER ON/OFF switch to the ON position,then press and hold the button until your player turns on.

Press and hold the button until your player turns off.If you r player 's software freezes, you may set the POWER ON/OFFswitch to the OFF pos ition.

Your player has power-saving features that w ill turn off yourplayer, turn off the screen, or place i t in sleep mode automaticallyafter a period of inactivity.

See the Setup sect ion forinstructions on how to set the power-saving features' options.

Plug the large end of the USB cable into the computer's USB port.Power on your player.Plug the other end of the USB cable into your player's mini -USBport .

Double-click the green arrow in the taskbar located at thebottom-right of the computer's screen. A "Safely RemoveHardware" window will appear.In the list of hardware devices, double-click on "USB Mass StorageDev ice . A "Stop a Hardware Device" window will appear.Click the OK button . You may now safely d isconnect your playerfrom the computer.

To transfe r files between your player and a computer:

Do not disconnect yourplayer while it is transfe rring files.

If you delete fi les in thismanner, make su re you disconnect your player using the processdescribed in the Connecting/Disconnecting Your Player section.

Connect your p layer to the computer with the USB cable.Open Windows Explorer on the computer.Select t he files you want to transfer and drag-and-drop them tothe removable disc icon (ie, your player). You can also transfe rfiles from your player to a computer.

Doing so may corrupt ordamage the firmware and/or f iles on y our player. If your playeris accidentally d isconnected while it is transferring files and doesnot work properly, power your p layer off using the ON/OFF swi tchand then power your player on again.

To delete files from within your player, enter MP3, AMV, VOICE,or PHOTO mode ( these modes may be accessed from theMain menu).While your player is paused, press the JOYSTICK SELECT key toaccess the submenu.

Highlight then select "Delete".Highlight then select the file you want to delet e.Highlight then select "Delete". You may also choose to deleteall files l isted by selecting "Delete all".

: The files available to be deleted are dependent on themode that your p layer is in. Music files may be deleted in MP3mode, movie files in AMV mode, etc.

You may also choose to delete f i les from your player through yourcomputer while the two are connected.

BASIC OPERATION PLAYER MODESMain Menu/NavigationWhen your player is powered on, it will enter the Main menudirectly.

The Main menu consists of eight items: MP3, AMV, RECORD, VOICE,PHOTO, SETUP, and E-BOOK. For a deta iled description of eachitem, see the section in th is manual.

To return to the Main menu at any time, press and hold theJOYSTICK SELECT key.

The volume level may be adjusted while your play er is in MUSIC,AMV, or VOICE mode. To increase the volume, press the key. Todecrease the volume, press the key.

MP3 Music Player OptionsTo access the MP3 Music Player Options menu, press the JOYSTICKSELECT key . To return to MP3 Music Player mode,press the button.

EqualizerThe equalizer presets allow you to change the way music soundson your player. Press or to select one of the following presetopt ions: Natural, Rock, Pop, Classic, Soft, Jazz, or DBB.

Tempo rateThis setting changes the speed at which your music plays(tempo only affects music and voice files) . Press for slowerplayback or for faster p layback. A Tempo rate setting of "0"will play music at normal speed.ReplayThis setting will put your player in A-B Repeat mode (i.e., repeat amusic track segment). After you have selected "Replay"

, the A will be blinking on the A-B Repeat mode icon.Set the beginning of the track segment to be repeated by

pressing the RECORD button. The B will start to blink on the A-BRepeat mode icon.

It is possible to append a voice recording to the end of anA-B Repeat loop. This voice recording wil l become part of theA-B Repeat loop.

While the A-B Repeat loop is playing, press to begin voicerecording.To stop voice-recording , press again .

The A-B Repeat loop will now resume with the addition of thenew voice recording.

You may exit A-B Repeat mode at any time by pressing theJOYSTICK SELECT key.

Sets how many times your p layer w ill repeat tracksegments specified in A-B Repeat mode (1x to 10x).

Sets the duration of t ime (in seconds) your p layerwil l pause between A-B Repeat loops (1 to 10).

2.Set the end of the track segment to be repeated by pressingthe RECORD button again.The segment you have selected will then play in a loop for thenumber of times specified in "Replay times" (seebelow for more information). AMV Video PlayerTo ent er the AMV mode: From the Main menu, highlight andselect the item AMV. (To access the Main menu at any time,press and hold the JOYSTICK SELECT key.)

The AMV video player will find and play any AMV video filesloaded on your player. Use the file-conversion softwareincluded on the insta llation disc to convert v ideo files to theAMV format (see Included Software section) .

The voice recorder a llows you to record sound from themicr ophone located on the top of y our player.

To start recording , press the button.To pause/stop recording, press the button while your playeris recording.To save the record ing, press and hold the button.To save the record ing and return to the Main menu, pres s andhold the JOYSTICK SELECT key.

When you are in RECORD mode, the LCD will display theinformation illustrated below:

LanguageLanguage setup allows you to set the language of your player.Supported languages are Simple Chinese, English, TraditionalChinese, Korean, Japanese, French, German, Italian, Dutch,Portuguese, Spanish, Czech, Danish, and Russian.Power off

Note:

Power off setup allows you to set the power-saving features ofyour p layer. Off Time specifies the amount of time (in seconds)your p layer can be left idle before it automatically shuts off.Sleep Time specifies the amount of time (in seconds) your playercan be left idle before your p layer enters a power-saving sleepmode.

A setting of "0" w ill disab le these power-saving features.

To wake your p layer from sleep mode, press and hold theJOYSTICK SELECT key.

Replay mode set up allows you to choose whether your playerinserts a pause between tracks during Manual replay or Autoreplay.

Online mode setup allows you to choose between Multi-drive,Normal Only, and Encrypted Only modes. A partit ioning/encryption software tool(not included) is necessary to use thesefeatures.

The memory info screen displays both the total amount ofmemory available and the percentage of memory used.

The firmware version screen displays the current version of thefirmware installed on your player.

See the Firmware Upgrade sect ion for instructions on how toupgrade the firmware of your player.

Click "Select new Firmware Upgrade fi le" to select thedownloaded firmware upgrade file then click "Start Upgrade".Disconnect your player from your computer when theupgrade is complete.

Run the Mp3 Player Upgrade Tool utility from the START menu onyour computer( this utili ty can be found on the installation CD).

FIRMWARE UPGRADE

The software utili t ies allow you to convert sound and video filesto formats recognized by your p layer. In stall these utilit ies onyour computer from the Installat ion CD included with y our player.

The Sound Converter Tool allows you to convert sound f iles fromthe ACT format recorded by your player to the widely recognizedWAV format.

Run the Sound Converter Tool utility from the START menu onyour computer .Click the OPEN button to select an ACT file that you would liketo convert.Click the CONVERT button to run the conversion process.

The Movie Convert Tool allows you to convert video files to theMTV or AMV format recognized by your player.

This troubleshooting guide aims to save you time in case youexperience any inconvenience with th is digital audio player.If you are still h aving difficulty, please contact Consumer Service/Tec hnical Support.
