Temporary InstallationsUser’s Guide

Retaining plate locking bolt

removed, spacer block placed

aside for future use

Threaded insert for retaining

plate locking bolt

Loosen pivot bolt so

retaining plate swings freely

During the experimental stage of your TubeTrap positioning and HF tuning, you may wish to utilize the Positioning Tab for centering and pivoting of the TubeTrap to ease disassembly.

*Also recommended for show installations, for speed of setup and tear-down.

Positioning tab pushed into

fastener hole

Philips drive screwdriver

Retaining plate swung into

position, both bolts tightened

Philips drive screwdriver

Positioning tab protrudes

~3/8" from plate, providing a

pivot point for your

TubeTrap HF tuning

Nylon gliders permit very

low-friction rotation of

TubeTrap for HF tuning

Retaining plate is in factory-

conditions (pivot bolt tight,

positioning tab in stowed location)

Rubber compression gasket

placed against flat washer

Flat washer placed against

connecting bolt head

Once the positions of your TubeTraps have been established, our connecting bolt will ensure a robust connection between your Octagon Base and TubeTrap. This will protect against any shifting or rattling under heavy SPL listening. The rubber

compression gasket has been designed to allow fine tuning of HF response while the connection nut is in use.

With TubeTrap inverted,

Octagon Base is placed upon

end cap and Connecting Bolt

Assembly is inserted into

fastener hole. Bolt is turned

using flat head screwdriver

until resistance is met.

Lower portion of threading is

lightly fouled to permit secure

fastening at correct rotational

position

Connecting Bolt Assembly

Test the connection by

attempting to rotate the

Octagon Base relative to the

TubeTrap. The Base should

spin with moderate

resistance, and the

Connection Bolt should not

spin.

Spins with resistance

Does not spin

PROBLEM: base will not spinà loosen Connection Bolt

PROBLEM: Connection Bolt rotatesà tighten Connection Bolt

PROBLEM: base wobblesà tighten Connection Bolt

Installed ConditionsUser’s Guide

TubeTrap is mounted and

centered upon the Octagon Base

Architectural styling blends well

with common many room features

Reflector button indicates

the orientation of strongest

HF response

Having used either method of Octagon Base attachment, you should now be left with a handsome and adjustable TubeTrap presentation. Adjust TubeTrap HF tuning by simply rotating the unit by hand. The silver button(s) indicate the center of the HF diffusive half of the cylinder, whereby aiming the button directly at the listening position will result in the strongest HF

response.

Rubber feet allow secure

placement upon hard and

carpeted flooring

Finished Assembly

Can I stack multiple TubeTraps upon the Octagon Base?à Yes, the units are rated in excess of three times the weight of the corresponding TubeTrap model at 48" height.

Is there a front or a back to the Octagon Base?à No, all orientations are mechanically and acoustically equivalent. However, due to their hand-made nature, one

or more sides may be visually superior to the others. Select your favorite to face into the room.

Can I use Octagon Bases in room corners, even though the TubeTraps will not be tucked fully against each wall?à Yes, the wavelengths we seek to trap are quite large and their corresponding pressure zones are large as well.

In many cases, placement of TubeTraps approximately 1-3 inches from room corners results in more effective bass

trapping than fully against the walls.

If in doubt about your particular room and sound system, please call 1-800-ASC-Tube for detailed assistance.
