2.3.6 Presentation of graphs

2.3.6.1 PlottingIn the graph a line is drawn between two successive measurements. In case of significant differences in measurement time, or missed measurements a line is drawn as shown in next figure.

Fig. 18 Straight line between measured values

The scale of the horizontal axis is based on the smallest sample time within the selected period. Keep in mind that with a variable sampling rate the number of measurements at horizontal axis are not constant.

The figure below shows an example of 9600 values that are measured in situation A, and only 90 in situation B (lower measurement interval). However, in situation A the measurement interval is much shorter than in situation B, and therefore situation A uses less space at horizontal axis with 9600 measurements than situation B with only 90 measurements.

Situation A:Measurement interval: 1 minute = 9600 values

Situation B:Measurement interval: 1 hour = 90 values

Fig. 19 Horizontal time scale based on smallest time unit

7.2.1.2 To consider: message service numberAn infrastructure is needed for transport of massages, alarms and other data. There are different system like semaphone and mobile phone with SMS. Each system has specific advantages and disadvantages.

7.2.1.2.1 Semaphone

Semaphone is used as professional message system by organisations like police and fire brigades. The guaranteed receiving area (like the complete area of The netherlands) combined with the continuously beeping are most important features of this system.

In case VASP sends a message it receives an acknowledgement. With semaphone it is guaranteed that receiver has received the message. However, it remains unsure if the receiving party has read the message. Best way is to send the message again in case no reaction of receiver is reported.

7.2.1.2.2 Mobile phone (SMS)

Mobile phone and SMS service is generally accepted and used. This message service is used a lot but there are some considerations:

The ring tone at receiving party is often not more than a few beeps. At night when you are asleep or in a noisy surrounding it is easily missed.

More important is the fact that the provider can not guarantee the moment when the message is delivered. Most times this will take just some seconds, but it also could be next day!A confirmation of a delivered SMS message is not standard available but is necessary, especially with urgent alarms.

7.2.1.3 Controllers

Fig. 55 Controllers

Select the controllers with which the user can communicate.

Available controllers

A controller is only available if it is configured in advance at the server.

Select this option in case the system should logoff automatically when the system is not used during a certain time. With this option enabled it is possible to set the time delay. Automatic logoff prevents the situation you forgot to logoff and someone else uses the system unauthorized.

7.2.1.5 Message services

7.3 Subtab Groups

A group consist of persons that should receive a message simultaneously. It is used to forward messages from a controller via a message service.Select ‘Alarms’ (see page 47) to set a pager group for each message.

A group is possible with minimal one user with configured message service. Use within a group multiple users with message services for a reliable message system. Use different providers if possible. As soon as an alarm message is detected the speed of further processing depends on the way the group is configured. When for example the first message service does not confirm the message, the next message service is activated automatically.

7.3.1 Add group

1. Select tab ‘Configuration’.2. Select ‘Groups’ in left menu. The window ‘Groups’ is shown.3. Select with right mouse button ‘Groups’ and select ‘New’. The window ‘Properties groups’ is shown.4. Enter name in field ‘Name’.5. Enter the number of retries at ‘Number of retries for call order’.

Log communication session : Create debug file of all communication sessions.

7.4.5.2 Type: Modem pool‘Modem pool’ is meant for communication between VASP and multiple controllers. ‘Modem pool’ is a number of modems that can be used in case multiple connections are needed simultaneously. VASP selects automatically a free modem connection and enables it for the concerning connection. The modem is released again when communication is finished. In this way all modems can be used what makes it possible for VASP to communicate with multiple controllers simultaneously.
