AlwaysensurethattheUSBportissealedcorrectlybeforeuseoutdoors.Environmentaldamagemayoccurifthisportisnotcorrectlysealed.
1.7 AboutTranscend’sBatteryTranscendfeaturesaninternalLithiumrechargeablebatteryinthelefthandside.Thereisnothingtoremoveorreplace,simplychargeasperbelow.

1.7.2 ChargeTimeandBatteryLifeInoptimalconditions,Transcendcanfastcharge(batterylifereaches80%)throughyourcomputerorACadapterin1 hour.Youcanattaina100%fullchargein3 to 5 hours.IfyouchargeTranscendwhileitispoweredon,chargetimewilltakelongerthan3 hours.
BesuretoturnTranscendOFFbeforechargingit.
TheTranscendcanalsobechargedfromtheUSBportofaComputerusingtheprovidedUSBcablein3 to 5 hours.ChargetimesvarydependingonthemodeloftheComputer.Forbestchargingperformance,itisrecommendedthatyouusetheprovidedACadapterandUSBcableforcharging.
Transcend’sbatterywilllast6+ hoursinoptimalconditions,theequivalenttoyouraverageskiday.SimplyrechargeatanytimethroughyourcomputerorACadapter.See‘ImprovingBatteryPerformance’belowtogetthemostoutofyourbattery.
1.7.3 DifferentBatteryIndicatorStatesWhenTranscendhasfullornearlyfullchargeitwillberepresentedbythefollowingicon,locatedinthetoprighthandcornerofthedisplayatalltimes.

ToPoweron,simplyholdthePOWER/SELECTbuttonforabout2seconds.YouwillknowtheunitisonwhenthePOWER/SELECTbuttonglowsbluethroughtheReconInstrumentsLogo,andthedisplayscreenpowersuptoshowtheDashboard.

2. TheStatusBar
Acrossthetopofthescreenarethreeimportantpiecesofinformationatalltimes.ThisStatusBarappearsinallscreensandmenusandprovidesthevitalsofTranscend:GPSIndicator,Time,andBatteryIndicator.
2.1 GPSIndicator
TranscendusesGPStechnologytodetermineitsspeedandlocation.GPSrequiresthatthedevicehasalineofsightwithatleast4GPSsatellites.ThismeansthatGPSworksbestinopenspaceswithaclearviewofthesky.Obstructionssuchasbuildingsandtreescandegradethesignalqualityandimpactspeed/positionreliability.AswithanyGPSdevice,whenTranscendispoweredonittakessometimetolocateenoughsatellitestoaccuratelycalculateitsposition.ThisdelayisknownastheTimetoFirstFix(TTFF).Transcend’saverageTTFFrangesbetween3to5minutesdependingontheconditions.

Transcend’sGPSsignalstrengthisrepresentedbythefollowingstates:
WhenTranscendissearchingforsatellitestogainaGPSsignalitisrepresentedbythefollowingicon,locatedinthetoplefthandcorneroftheStatusBar.
WhenTranscendhasamoderate-to-strongsignalitisrepresentedbythefollowingicon,locatedinthetoplefthandcorneroftheStatusBar.
WhenTranscendhasabrokenGPSsignalitisrepresentedbythefollowingicon,locatedinthetoplefthandcorneroftheStatusBar.ItisrecommendedthatyourestartTranscendifyouexperiencethisiconformorethanafewseconds.
2.2 TimeTranscend’sclockislocatedinthemiddleoftheStatusBar.Read‘SettingtheTime’belowformoreinformation.

3. SettingPreferencesinTranscend
Oncecharged,turnonTranscendandnavigatetothePreferencesscreenusingtheUP/FORWARDorDOWN/BACKWARDSbuttons.The‘PreferencesScreen’hasinformationincludingthetimeofthebeginningofyourtripandthecalendardate,aswellasthesequentiallynumbereddaycurrentlyloggedwithinmemory.Youwillalsoseethefirmwareversion#inthismainarea.IntheeventyourTranscend’smemoryisfull,youwillbepromptedinthisscreenaswell.Simplydownloadthedatatoyourcomputertofreeupmemory.
Atthe‘PreferencesScreen’SELECT‘Preferences’.Chooseanyoftheoptionslistedtosetyourpreferences,orSELECT‘Back’toreturntothemainscreen.Ifyoustayinanypreferencescreenformorethantensecondsyouwillbebumpedouttothescreenyouwereinpreviously.

3.3 ResettingStats
TranscendautomaticallystartsrecordingdatatoitsinternalmemoryassoonasitreceivesastrongGPSsignal;andwillcontinuerecordingaslongasitisonandhasaGPSsignal.ThisdataissavedsothatitcanbereviewedonyourComputerwithyourReconHQSoftware(availablefordownloadfromwww.reconinstruments.com).
Inaddition,thegogglekeepstrackofallrecentstatisticssothatyoucanreviewthemonthefly.ThesestatswillaccumulateuntilyouchosetoRESETSTATS.Atthestartofeveryday(Transcendconsidersanytimepast4AMinyourselectedTimeZoneasanewday)youwillbepromptedwith:
Youcanalsochoosetomanuallyresetstatsinthepreferencesmenu.

TranscendutilizesCoordinatedUniversalTime(UTC)uponfirststrongGPSsignallock.ThisallowstheclocktoautomaticallycalculatetheproperGreenwichMeanTime(GMT).However,youmayhavetosetthecorrecthourbasedonyourtimezone.Atableisprovidedbelowtoaidyou.
Tosetthetimeontheclock:
1. SELECT‘SetTime’fromthe‘Preferences’menu 2. UsetheUP/FORWARDorDOWN/BACKWARDSbuttonstocyclethrough whichdigit(hoursorminutes),orAM/PM,youwouldliketochange,a whitehighlightboxactsasyourcursortoselect. 3. 4. TheReal-timeDashboard
Transcendisusedinfast-pacedenvironments.Assuchitisnotrecommendedtocyclethroughscreensandmenusduringactivitiesthatrequireyourfullattention.TheDashboardofferspiecesofinformationtoaidyouinyouractivitiesinhands-freefashion,withreal-timestatisticseverysecond.Thereisalsoaconfigurableareaherethatallowsyoutopersonalizewhichfeatureyouwouldliketobeincluded.
4.1 Speedometer
ThelargestpieceofinformationontheDashboardistheSpeedometerrepresentedbyadialthatlightsupfromthebottomleft-handcornerclockwiseuptothetoppartoftheDashboard.TheSpeedometershowsindigitalnumbershowfastTranscendismovinginkm/hormphdependingonyourpreferencesettings.
Thedigitaldiallightsupseveralgreenbarsbasedonyourspeed.Ifyoureachhighergreenbarsorredbars,itissuggestedyouadjustyourspeedappropriatelytomaintainthesafetyofyourselfandothers.Alwaysperformsportingactivitieswithintheboundariesofyourpersonalskillandcomfortlevels.

Iftherearetwodasheswherethedigitsshouldbe,youlikelydonothaveaGPSsignalstrongenoughtosupplyaccuratedata.See‘GPSSignals’in‘TipsandTroubleshooting’tolearnmore.
4.2 Chrono/Stopwatch
JustbeneaththeStatusBar,totherightoftheSpeedometerliestheChrono/Stopwatch.Whennotinuse,thenumbersaregreyed-outasbelow.
PressingSELECTwhileviewingtheDashboardwillactivateChrono/Stopwatchmode,thenumberswillturnyellowandstartcountinguntilyoupressSELECTasecondtime.
PressingSELECTasecondtimewillstopthecounterandfreezetheresultsuntilyoupressSELECTforathirdtime.
PressingSELECTathirdtimewillresetthecounterandgrey-outthenumbersonceagainsoitisreadyforanothertimedactivity.
Anytimedactivitywillbesavedtothememoryandcanbemanaged(viewed,flagged,deleted)ontheChrono/Stopwatchscreen.See‘Chrono/StopwatchFeature’tolearnmore.
