9. GROUNDING BEST PRACTICES In the event the equipment where the Transmitter is being mounted on to is not

properly grounded, it is important to effectively earth ground the Transmitter to

ensure safety, prevent static electricity damage and protection from lightning and/or

electrical surges in the area. Ensure the equipment to which the Transmitter is mounted

is properly earth grounded as defined by the National Electrical Code.

• A true earth ground physically consists of a conductive pipe or rod driven into the earth. Rod electrodes shall not be less than 8 feet (2.44 m) in length and consist of the following materials and installed in the following manner:

• Electrodes shall be copper clad or their equivalent and shall be not less than 5/8 inch (15.875 mm) in diameter, or listed non-ferrous rods or their equivalent and not less than 1/2 inch (12.7 mm) in diameter.

• The electrode shall be installed such that at least 8 feet (2.44 m) of length is in contact with the soil. It shall be driven to a depth of not less than 8 feet (2.44 m). The electrode shall be driven at an oblique angle not to exceed 45 degrees from vertical or shall be buried in a trench that is at least 2 1/2 feet (.762 m) deep. The upper end of the electrode shall be flush with or below ground level. If ground end and the grounding electrode conductor attachment are above ground, ensure protection against physical damage.

Wireless Transmitter Grounding

• Ground the Transmitter to the equipment using the grounding screw, or connect directly to the grounding rod if mounting the Transmitter to a non-grounded tank. We recommend 12 to 16 AWG for ground cable. The grounding screw connections are located on the outside of the housing and identified by ground symbol.

• Once all wiring and grounding recommendations have been followed it is important to test the ground resistance at the grounding rod to assure a good ground. The most effective grounding method is direct connection to earth ground with minimal impedance. An impedance of less than 5 Ohms recommended.

• For more details on proper grounding electrodes and grounding electrode conductors, consult the National Electrical Code.

SIGFOX READY - GP WIRELESS ANALOG DISCRETE TRANSMITTER - USER GUIDE

12. INSTALLATION BEST PRACTICES 1. This device is not intended for use on processes that have the

potential to generate high vibration levels that would adversely impact product performance or life.

2. Follow your organization’s best grounding practices.

3. Always install the Transmitter in the upright position so that the antenna pole is correctly oriented.

4. When possible, have at least 10 ft ground clearance for optimal RF performance.

5. Installing a lightning arrestor is strongly recommended when using the Transmitter with a remote antenna.

6. Have at least 10 ft of vertical separation with other antennas.

7. Be sure to tightly seal all orifices using industrial-grade thread sealant or tape.

8. If using an internal battery SX1000-BP2, be sure to secure it using the battery tie strap to minimize vibration.

9. Tighten enclosure cover by hand only.

10. Always attach pipe fittings to the Transmitter as shown below.

This method will prevent any moisture or water condensation

from running down the pipe and being trapped around critical

electronic components. Any damage due to water ingress

issues can cause corrosion, incorrect level readings, and or,

complete device failure.

14. GENERAL MAINTENANCE The OleumTech Sigfox Ready Wireless Transmitter is easy to

maintain and does not require periodic system checks. Transmitter

generally only needs a yearly visual inspection to monitor the

following:

• Is the Battery life still 2.8 V or above? (Check more

frequently if using shorter transmit interval)

• Is the Transmitter still securely fastened to the mounting

location?

• Are there any visible signs of corrosion, cracks or residue

build-up on the unit?

• Has anything about the intended use of the original

application changed?

If the Transmitter is securely fastened, with no signs of corrosion,

cracks, or residue build-up, or if nothing has changed about the

location of its intended use, it should continue to operate within

designed specification.

If the Transmitter is not securely fastened; if there are signs of

corrosion, cracks, residue build-up; or if there has been a change to

the location of its intended use resulting in undesirable

performance, contact the manufacturer for service instructions.

Cleaning: To prevent static discharge, wipe the outer casing with a

damp cloth only.
