How onExamination Can Help You
onExamination provides exam revision resources, self assessment modules and
clinical video tutorials. Whether you are a medical student, specialist trainee,
GP Trainee or Nurse, we have the medical learning resource to suit your needs.
Exam Revision Resources
We have 33 resources covering specialties including; General Medicine,
General Practice, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Child Health, Surgery, Psychiatry,
Radiology, Anaesthesiology and Medical Student. All resources are written to
exam format and at the correct level of difficulty, aligned to the curriculum
and include recent exam themes.
Self Assessment Modules
Our modules will ensure that you keep an up-to-date learning portfolio
throughout your career. onExamination is recognised by EPASS as an
accredited provider. You will receive a certificate after completing each module.
Video Tutorials
Our classic video tutorials teach you how to correctly perform clinical
examinations and interpretations by watching real time demonstrations by
clinical experts.
This guide will take you through the many useful features and functions of
the learning resources from onExamination to ensure you get the most out of
your revision account.

Getting Started
Signing into your account
You can sign into your account by clicking on the ‘Sign in’ link on
the homepage. Alternatively you can type in the web address
my.onexamination.com into your web browser.
Enter the email address you used to set-up your account and
password you created. Then click on the ‘Sign in’ button.
This will take you directly to the homepage / profile section of
your account where you can view your revision resources and start
answering questions.

My Profile
You will find your, ‘My Profile’ tab at the top right of the page next
to the ‘Sign Out’ tab.
‘My Details’ section will allow you to enter / change your personal
details including adding a profile picture. Here you will also be able
to opt-in / out of receiving onExamination and BMJ Group emails
and choose whether you would like to receive a weekly progress
email.
‘My Exam Dates’ – This area allows you to enter your exam
date which in turn will trigger specific notifications that will be
personal to your account including a reminder of the end of your
subscription and hints and tips about how you should be using your
account at certain points during your subscription.

My Profile
You can also ‘Change your password’ in your ‘My Profile’ area and
print a receipt of your purchase from the ‘My Receipts’ section.
The last tab within your Profile area is, ‘My Achievements’. Here
you will find a list of ‘achievement badges’ that you can achieve
whilst holding a subscription with onExamination. Once achieved,
the badges will show in the Profile section of your account. These
badges will remain on your account so that when you return to us
for a future exam you can build on the badges you achieved the
first time around.

Revision Methods
• Work Smart – work by curriculum area to focus your efforts
topic by topic.
• Work Hard – this progresses you systematically through all
questions in your chosen resource.
• Group Learning – this quiz format revision tool lets you compete
against your peers in 10-question rounds whilst testing your
knowledge.
• AdaptForMeTM – our question system adapts to your level of
ability to give you questions that are pitched to improve your
learning faster.
• Saved Tests – create your own test and answer questions against
the clock. Use the exam theme past papers we have created for
you to ensure you are fully prepared for the actual exam.
These revision methods can be found on your homepage in your
‘my’ account or within the ‘Exam Revision’ tab. AdaptForMeTM can
be found within the Work Smart section.

Key Features
Revision Advice
Under the ‘Exam Revision’ tab you will find, ‘Revision Advice’. Click
here to get hints and tips on the best approach for your exam. You
will get advice on how to answer the different question types and
how your revision resource can help you to prepare for your exam.
onExamination Mobile
You can access your revision resource on your mobile.
onExamination Mobile displays questions in the Work Hard mode
enabling you to work systematically through your question bank.
Questions are presented from topics chosen in a random pattern.
You can access your revision resource on any smart phone by
visiting, m.onexamination.com. Just enter your account email
and password. This means you can access questions wherever and
whenever you want providing there is internet connection.

Questions
Work Smart
onExamination gives you the opportunity to answer questions by
topic, enabling you to focus your study on a particular area of the
curriculum. You are also able to choose questions by format, i.e,
EMQ, MCQ, BOF etc.
To start answering questions click the ‘Work Smart’ link under the
‘Exam Revision’ tab.
Select the exam that you want to practice from the ‘Exam Resource’
box. Below this you will then have a number of options for creating
your own specific bank of questions.
• Select the specific question type you would like to answer or just
leave the selection as ‘ALL’ to see all questions.
• You can choose to see all questions available or only those that
you have not seen before. This ensures that you don’t have to
repeat a question.
• Question Difficulty can also be selected on a 5-point scale from
Easy to Hard or you can choose the AdaptForMeTM option here.
• Select questions based on a ‘Keyword’ to pull out all questions
containing that word / phrase, i.e, ‘blood’, ‘paracetamol’, ‘birth’ etc.
• Choose the subject areas you would like to revise by selecting
the ‘Filter by Category’ section. Study all of the categories or pick
individual topics.
• Select how many questions you would like on the dropdown list.
• Finally, click the ‘Generate Exam’ button to begin your revision.

Questions
Answering Questions
onExamination’s revision resources not only test your medical
knowledge, but contain explanations to improve your learning.
Your revision resource provides immediate feedback to questions
answered. The interactive case problems are marked as you proceed,
providing answers, explanations and further reading.
Select an answer from the list and click the ‘submit answer’ button
to see whether you have answered correctly.
Click ‘Next Question’ to progress through your revision questions.
You also have the option to ‘Skip Question’ if you like and/or ‘Tag
Question’ to come back to it at a later date.

Questions
Share your Score on Social Media
Each time you complete a Work Smart session you have the
opportunity to show your scores on social media sites. By clicking
on the Facebook or Twitter icons you can post your score to
Facebook with your comments and tweet your score on Twitter. Let
your friends know how well you are doing with your revision. Other
social media sites are available, just click on the plus icon.

Questions
Group Learning
This quiz format revision tool lets you compete against your peers
whilst testing your knowledge. Each quiz offers questions randomly
selected from your exam revision resource. At the end of each set
of ten questions you will be able to see the scores for those who
have entered and know how you finished on the leaderboard.
You can join the quiz at any point and start answering questions
when the next question begins. Use the ‘chat’ function to comment
on questions and give your feedback on the answers.

Scores
Feedback and Analysis
onExamination provides detailed analysis and feedback on your
progress. By selecting the ‘Scores’ tab in your account, you will see
how many questions you have answered correctly, your average
score and how you compare with others.
These scores and comparisons against your peers will provide you
with a good indication of your progress and define the areas where
you are most competent. This will also show which areas you need
to focus on.

Scores
Using the navigational tabs on the top of your toolbar you will be
able to view various features that will provide feedback on your
performance. The ‘Category Overview’ tab will let you view your
‘Current Performance’ and ‘General Progress’.
The General Progress Chart will provide you with the number of
questions you have answered correctly or incorrectly. They highlight
your areas of strength and weakness so that you can save future
study time by focussing on specific areas relevant to your learning
needs.
You will also find, ‘Session Analysis’ and ‘Day-by-Day Analysis’ which
can help you monitor your progress on a shorter review cycle.
Within scores you will also see a ‘Learning Journal’ tab. Just click
the ‘Add a New Journal Entry’ to record any notes on your revision
session. You can use the Learning Journal to note down scores from
specific sessions or just reminders on which topics you want to
study next.

Self Assessment
Testing your Knowledge
Any self assessment modules you have purchased will show
under the ‘Self Assessment’ tab. Self assessment modules not only
test your medical knowledge but explanations will improve your
learning.
Answering Questions
Click the module’s name and you will be taken to a summary on
what you will learn by the time you have completed it. It will also
show you the required pass mark. Click the ‘Start Module’ link, then
the ‘Start’ button to begin answering questions.
• Select an answer from the list and click the ‘Submit Answer’
button to see whether you have answered correctly.
• Click ‘Next Question’ to progress through the questions.

Self Assessment
Module Summary
When you have completed all the questions you will see your
module summary which tells you your mark and how many
questions you got right or wrong.
Pass
If you did reach the required pass mark you will have the
opportunity to add any reflections you may want to note from
working through this module. You may want to note what you
have learnt and how you might develop this knowledge in the
future. Add your comments into the ‘Edit your reflection here’
box and ‘Save’.
Once this is complete you are able to ‘Print Your Certificate’ and
it will be provided as a PDF file that you can download to your
computer and print for your portfolio.
Printing your Certificate
Before you print your certificate please make sure you’ve entered
your ‘certification body number’ (GMC number, or membership
number of equivalent organisation) on the ‘My Details’ page under
‘My Profile’.
Fail
If you did not reach the required pass mark you will have the
opportunity to review the questions again or if logging in at
another time, go to your ‘Self Assessment’ tab and in the ‘My
Modules’ tab you will see under your module that there will be
a link to ‘Retry Incorrect’ questions or ‘Re-sit’ the entire module.

Video Tutorials
Key Features
If you have purchased a video tutorial it will be displayed under
the video tutorial tab. Once you have clicked on the video title of
your choice a video screen will show on your computer. To start the
video, click on the arrow in the middle of the screen.
The videos can be viewed as many times as you like, stopping them
and starting them as required.

Community & Help
Community
Under the ‘Community’ tab you will find the Latest News section,
and the onExamination quiz. You are able to vote on news articles
which are shown on your ‘My Activity’ feed on your homepage and
you can share the articles on social media sites. Post the article
on Facebook by clicking on the Facebook icon or tweet them on
Twitter by clicking on the Twitter icon. Other social media sites
are available, just click on the plus icon.
