RULE # 1 When the Noun is associated with

undefined person or object and that is Subject of ‘To Be Verb’, in that case we generally use ‘There’ before Verb. In this way “There” introduces the Real Subject instead of being real Subject.

E.g. There was a large crowd in the market. Is there no bridge on this river? Was there no one to help?

RULE # 2 In Present Tense with Singular

Subject we use ‘There Is’ and with the Plural Subject we use ‘There Are’.

E.g.

There is a bank behind my house. There are many trees in my garden. There is a cinema in our town. There are many jobs in Delhi.

RULE # 3 In Past Tense with Singular Subject

we use ‘There Was’ and with Plural Subject we use ‘There Were’.

E.g.

There was a mango tree in my courtyard. There were many students in the class. There was a pen in my bag. There were ten computers in the lab.

RULE # 4 In Negative Sentences we use NOT/

NO after ‘Is/ Are/ Was/ Were’.

E.g.

There is no limit of earning in business. There was no age bar. There are no online examinations. There were no sports periods in our

school.

RULE # 5 In Interrogative Sentences we use Is/

Are/ Was/ Were before ‘There’.

E.g.

Is there any room for me? Was there anybody in the classroom? Were there many celebrities? Are there eleven players in Basketball?

RULE # 6 In Interrogative Negative Sentences

we use NOT after ‘There’.

E.g.

Were there not eleven players in the ground?

Are there not many candidates for job? Was there no student in the class? Is there no girl in your friend circle?
