Benefits Enrollment Policy

Benefits Start Date: 1st of the month following an employee’s date of hire

Initial Benefits Enrollment: New employees must enroll in benefits within 30 days of hire or receipt of their Welcome New Hire Workday event

If no action is taken by the employee, they will be defaulted into the Trojan Care EPO plan with employee only coverage

Adding Dependents: Dependent Documentation, SSNs, and DOB will be required at the time of enrollment

Changing Benefit Elections: Outside of the new hire period, benefits can only be changed during Open Enrollment and/or Qualifying Life Events

Tuition Assistance Benefit 

Employee TAB• This benefit does not guarantee admission to a University degree program  Staff employees hired on or after January 1, 2019 must complete 2 years

of service before enrolling in a degree program; they must also stay actively employed by USC for two additional years (total four years of service) to avoid having to repay tuition. 

Anniversary date must be within 30 days before or after the start of the semester.

Covers only tuition (not books, fees, etc.) A Staff employee who is an “admitted student,” can take 6 units of 

undergraduate courses or 4 units toward graduate courses per semester. All graduate coursework is considered taxable and reportable income to
