Windows Software InstallationMake sure the proper version driver for yourgraphics card is installed, the USB 2.0 to HDMIwith Audio is not designed to work with Windows'Standard VGA Graphics Adapter driver.

Windows 7 (32-/64-bit)1. Insert the driver CD. Close AutoPlay box.

Click Start, in the Search programs andfiles box, type D:\setup.exe, press Enter.(Change D: to match your CD/DVD-ROMdrive letter).

2. At User Account Controls, click Yes.3. Select I accept.4. Connect your second monitor to the USB

2.0 to HDMI with Audio and turn it on.5. Plug the USB 2.0 to HDMI with Audio into

the computer, the driver will be installedautomatically.

Windows Vista (32-/64-bit)1. Insert the driver CD. Close AutoPlay box.

Click Start, in the Start Search box, typeD:\setup.exe, press Enter. (Change D: tomatch your CD/DVD-ROM drive letter).

2. At User Account Controls, click Yes orContinue.

3. Select I accept.4 Connect your second monitor to the USB

2.0 to HDMI with Audio and turn it on.5. Plug the USB 2.0 to HDMI with Audio into

6. Restart your system to complete theinstallation.

Windows XP (32-bit)1. Insert the driver CD. Click Start, then Run.

Type D:\setup.exe, click OK. (Change D:to match your CD/DVD-ROM drive letter).

4. Connect the USB 2.0 to HDMI with Audio tothe computer and the driver will be installedautomatically.

5. Restart your system to complete theinstallation.

To Verify Windows Installation1. From the desktop, right click Computer or

My Computer, then click Manage.For Windows 7: Click Device Manager.For Windows Vista: Click Continue, thenDevice Manager.For Windows XP: Click Device Manager.

2. Double click USB Display Adapters, USBHDMI adapter should be displayed.

Uninstalling the Adapter DriverWindows 71. Click Start, Control Panel.2. Click Programs.3. Click Programs and Features.4. Select DisplayLink Graphics, then click

Uninstall. Click Yes, Yes.

5. Click Yes to complete uninstalling the driver

Windows Vista1. Click Start, Control Panel.2. Click Classic View, double click Programs

and Features.3. Select DisplayLink Graphics, then click

Uninstall, then click Yes.4. Click Allow.5. Click Yes to complete uninstalling the driver.

Windows XP1. Click Start.2. Click Control Panel, double click Add/

Remove Programs.3. Select DisplayLink Graphics, click either

Remove, then click Yes.4. Click Yes to complete uninstalling the driver.

Windows Display UtilityAfter successful driver installation USB HDMIAdapter icon will appear in the taskbar by thesystem clock. This utility allows you to quicklychange the viewing modes and resolutions forthe USB 2.0 to HDMI with Audio. Access themenu by right clicking the icon.

Viewing Modes

Windows Vista (32-bit) / XP (32-bit)• Updates:

Check Now - Connects to the update serverto check for newer driver versions anddownload them if available.Configure - Opens the update Windowswhere you can configure automatic updates.

• Screen Resolution: Displays a list ofavailable resolutions.

• Screen Rotation:Normal - No rotation is applied to the USB2.0 to HDMI with Audio display.Rotated Left - Rotates the extended ormirrored display by 270 degrees.

Rotated Right - Rotates the extended ormirrored display by 90 degrees.Upside-Down - Rotates the extended ormirrored display by 180 degrees.

• Extend to:Right - Extends the display to the right ofthe main display.Left - Extends the display to the left of themain display.Above - Extends the display above of themain display.Below - Extends the display below the maindisplay.

• Extend: This is the default setting of theUSB 2.0 to HDMI with Audio. This modeextends your desktop for easy viewing ofmultiple windows. Windows will move offthe primary display from the right side andenter the extended display from the leftside.

• Set as Main Monitor: This mode, makesthe USB 2.0 to HDMI with Audio the maindisplay adapter in the system.

• Notebook Monitor Off: Switches off thedisplay of an attached notebook and makesthe USB 2.0 to HDMI with Audio displayprimary.

• Mirror: In this mode, the USB 2.0 to HDMIwith Audio will mirror your desktop. Youwill see the same image on both monitors.

• Off: This setting turns off the USB 2.0 toHDMI with Audio adapter.

• Optimize for Video (Vista and Windows7 only): Configures the secondary displayfor optimum full screen video performanceoutput. Note: Text may appear less clear.

• Fit to TV: Opens a GUI to change the size ofthe Windows desktop so it fits on a TVscreen.

• Advanced Configuration : Opens theDisplay Settings window (WDP).

Windows 7 (32-/64-bit) / Vista (64-bit)• Check for updates : Connects to the

Windows Update and checks for newerversions and download them if available.

• Optimize for Video: Select this option forbetter movie playback performance on theDisplayLink enabled displays. Only selectthis option when playing back video content.Note: Text may appear less clear whenenabled.

• Fit to TV: If the Windows desktop does notcompletely appear on the TV, this optioncan be used to adjust the size of the Windowsdesktop.

• Advanced Configuration: Opens theWindows Display Properties (WDP).

Using Windows Display Properties (WDP)This allows you to rotate, duplicate or extendscreens as well as modify screen resolution.• Display: Use the drop down list to select a

display to be configured.• Resolution: Use the drop down list and

user the slider to choose a resolution.• Orientation:

Landscape - Sets the display to landscapeview.

Portrait - Sets the display to portrait mode.Landscape (flipped) - Sets the display to upsidedown landscape mode.Portrait (flipped) - Sets the display to upsidedown landscape mode.

• Multiple displays:Duplicates these displays - Reproduces themain display on the second display.Extend these displays - Extends the maindisplay onto the secondary display.Show Desktop only on 1 - The desktop appearson the display marked 1. The display marked2 becomes blank.Shows Desktop only on 2 - The desktopappears on the display marked 2. Thedisplay marked 1 becomes blank.

• Make this my main display: When youcheck the box, it will make your USB 2.0 toHDMI with Audio the main display adapterin the system. Make sure the secondarymonitor is seclected before choosing thisoption.

Display PositionsTo move the position of a display, click and holdthe display you wish to move then drag it to thedesired position. The display will be highlightedwith a blue border while you are moving thedisplay to its new position.

Mac OS Driver Installation1. Connect the USB 2.0 to HDMI with Audio to

an available USB port.2. Insert driver CD.3. Double click Driver CD icon on the Desktop.4. Double click Mac folder.5. Double click DisplayLink-OSX-1.5.dmg.6. Double click DisplayLink Software

Installer.pkg.7. Click Continue, Continue, and Continue.8. Click Agree, then click Install.9. Type in your system password, then click

OK.10. Click Continue Installation.11. Click Restart to complete the installation.

To Verify Driver Installation1. Double click OS 10.4.X or above volume/

drive icon.2. Go to System/Library/Extensions folder.3. If both files DisplayLink Driver.kext and

DisplayLinkGA.plugin are in theExtension folder, the USB 2.0 to HDMI withAudio is installed successfully.

To Uninstall the Driver1. Insert the driver CD.2. Double click Driver CD icon on the Desktop.3. Double click Mac folder.4. Double click DisplayLink-OSX-1.5.dmg.5. Double click DisplayLink Software

Uninstaller.6. Select Uninstall.7. Type in your system password, then click

Mac Display UtilityAfter successful driver installation an added iconwill appear in the taskbar by the system clock, seeFigure 2. This utility allows you to quickly changethe viewing modes and resolutions for the USB2.0 to HDMI with Audio. Access the menu byclicking the icon and select Display Preferences.You can also access Display Preferences if yougo to System Preferences and click Displaysunder Hardware, see Figure 3 in the next page.

Setting the Display ResolutionsTo change the display’s resolution, select anavailable resolution from the Display Preferenceswindow of the display you wish to change, seeFigure 4 in the next page. The resolutions availabledepend on both the USB 2.0 to HDMI with Audioenabled product and the capabilities of theconnected display.

Rotating a DisplayIf you wish to rotate your display, you canconfigure the orientation using the Rotate dropdown, see Figure 4. Select the appropriate angleof rotation to match your display’s set up.

Display PositionsTo move the position of a display, click and holdthe display you wish to move then drag it to thedesired position. The display will be highlightedwith a red border while you are moving thedisplay to its new position.

Setting the Display to Mirror modeWhen in Mirror mode, additional displays willdisplay what is being shown on the primarydisplay. Checking the Mirror Displays on theArrangement pane enables this feature, see Figure5.

Setting the Display to ExtendTo extend connected displays, make sure that theMirror Displays on the Arrangement pane isunchecked, see Figure 6 in the next page.

Changing the Main DisplayYou can change which is the main display bymoving the Menu Bar between displays.Changing the main display affects where newwindows appear and the position of the Dock.The Menu Bar can be moved so that it is shownon an alternative display. Clicking the whitemenu bar and dragging it to the desired displaywill perform this action, see Figure 7 in the nextpage.

Frequently Asked QuestionsQ1: Why won't my DVD player work when I

move it over to the extended display?A1: Some DVD playback software packages do

not support playing on a second displayadapter.

Q2: How come my video will not play on MediaPlayer if I move it over to the extendeddesktop?

A2: Check that you have moved the MediaPlayer window completely over to theextended screen.

Q3: There are lines running horizontally upand down my screen or the screen isdistorted.

A3: This is due to a low or unsupported refreshrate setting. You can change this in DisplayProperties/Settings/Advanced/Monitor.Make sure you select the USB 2.0 to HDMIwith Audio and not set the refresh ratehigher than what your monitor can support.

Q4: Why can't I make the USB 2.0 to HDMI withAudio the primary display?

A4: Some video cards ship their product with autility that prevents other video cards frombeing set as the primary video card. Checkthe bottom right hand corner of the taskbarfor the utility. Disable the utility beforeswitching the USB 2.0 to HDMI with Audioadapter to be the primary display.
