Who are DOs?
Doctors of osteopathic medicine are one of two types of
fully licensed physicians in the US (DOs & MDs).
They practice a distinctive philosophy that sees all
systems of the body as interrelated and uses techniques
to help the body heal itself.
DOs focus on prevention, considering how a patient‟s
lifestyle and environment can impact their well-being.
DOs partner with patients to restore health in a whole-
person approach that considers mind, body, and spirit.

Opportunities for practice
US DOs are equal to MDs.
Recognizing and including DOs can have a huge impact on health care in your nation.
Allows physicians to come home and practice
Facilitates educational exchange
Enhances cross-cultural literacy for US-trained DOs
AMCOA ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING, GHANA / JULY 24, 2018
DOs from Africa: Their stories
Dubem C. Obianagha, MBA, MPH, OSMII, grew up in Enugu, Nigeria at Ohio University
He wants to give back to communities like those he grew up in, and improve administration of health care both in the US and globally
He plans to be actively involved in international organizations.
“The biggest barrier” is having access to those countries and being able to practice where DO degrees are not yet recognized.”
