• The America's Army concept

was  conceived  in  1999  by

Colonel Casey Wardynski;

the  Army's  Chief  Economist

and Professor at  the United

States Military Academy.

• Wardynski  envisioned

"using  computer  game

technology  to  provide  the

public  a  virtual  Soldier

experience  that  was

engaging,  informative  and

entertaining

• The U.S. Army is no stranger

to  using  games  for  training

purposes, but now it’s using

gamification  to  attract  new

recruits  and  generally

promote  awareness  of  the

U.S. armed forces.

• America’s  Army  has

attracted  millions  of

potential  new  recruits.  This

effort  was  initiated  back  in

1999,  and  the  first  version

was released in 2002.

•  By  2008,  four  transportable

“Virtual  Army  Experience”  units

were  hitting  shopping  malls  and

public  events.  More  than  a

decade  in  the  making,  the  U.S.

Army  has  turned  its  knowledge

and experience of training games

into a powerful recruiting tool.

training  and  simulation

applications  using

the America's

Army platform  have  been

developed  to  train  and

educate U.S. Army soldiers.

been used  to deliver  virtual

soldiering  experiences  to

participants  at  events,  such

as  air  shows,  amusement

parks,  and  sporting  events

around the country.

• In  2010  the  Army  set  up  a  test  bed

“Army  Experience  Center”  at  the

Franklin  Mills  shopping  center  in

Pennsylvania.  The  center  cost  $12

million  but  it  allowed  the  Army  to

test  different  game  configurations

and evaluate results. The test ended

in  2012  and  the  center  was

dismantled.
