    The U.S. Army AdministrationCenter (ADMINCEN), parentorganization of the USAIAestablished as one of three combatand training developmentintegrating centers assigned to theU.S. Army Training and DoctrineCommand (TRADOC). As the focalpoint for Personnel Service Support(PSS), ADMINCEN integrated intothe Army’s overall combined armscapability missions related tofinancial management, humanresource management, militaryjustice, religious activities, medicalservices, public affairs, and foreignlanguage training.

  • ADMINCEN and USAIA reorganized into the U.S. Army Soldier Support Center(USASSC) and U.S. Army Institute of Personnel and Resource Management(USAIPRM) to accommodate the Army-wide responsibility for the “humandimension” of combat. USAIPRM composed of four schools -- AdjutantGeneral, Finance, Computer Science, and Personnel Management.

  • USAIPRM reorganized into the U.S. Army Soldier Support Institute (USASSI) atFort Benjamin Harrison, IN. By 1984, the Institute had grown to incorporate 8separate schools – the Adjutant General, Finance, Community Activities,Computer Science, Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC), Recruiting andRetention, School of Music, and the Soldier Physical Fitness Schools.

  • USASSI Noncommissioned Officers Academy established toprovide leadership training for senior enlisted specialists fromthe PSS mission area. The NCO Academy transferred from FortBenjamin Harrison to Fort Jackson, SC with other USASSIschools in 1995 and moved into new facilities.

  • A reorganization of the U.S. Army Training and DoctrineCommand's combat development community disestablished theUSASSC and merged it with the Logistics Center at Fort Lee, VA.The resulting organization, the U.S. Army Combined ArmsSupport Command (CASCOM), was established at Fort Lee inOctober 1990. Under the reorganization, USASSI becamesubordinate to the new CASCOM, the battlefield integrator forlogistics and personnel service support.

  • The 1991 Base Closure and Realignment Commission nominated Fort Benjamin Harrison for closure and the transfer of USASSI to Fort Jackson, SC. The transfer began officially in October 1994 and was completed September 30, 1995.

  • The U.S. Army Sustainment Center of Excellence (SCOE) was established at Fort Lee,VA, as the Army’s focal point for Sustainment, one of six principle warfightingfunctions that contribute to our Army’s ability to engage in operations across the fullspectrum of possible military conflict. The SCOE represents a further consolidation ofCASCOM; the Army Quartermaster, Transportation, and Ordnance Schools; and theU.S. Army Soldier Support Institute.
